Airbus and Sikorsky withdrew from bidding is they pretty much know that the project is going to be cancelled or chopped down to number which is not commercially viable.

Due to the size of said vehicle. Most missions in hostile areas would see it being dropped by parachute out of a plane. And once it hits the water it will most likely instantly drop below the waves. After the mission is complete it might have a way to sail back. Or in the future solar panels are installed so battery power can allow it to sneak back to base or to a waiting submarine with minimal noise.

F*****g great, an oil and gas helicopter with no battlefield design features. New paint job and the weighed down with military kit, too much specialised GSE and a lack field serviceability. Air transportability determined by the requirement to remove major component systems to fit into ST assets with associated engineering penalties.

Being a complete 'wet' (if I didn"r miss something) delivery vehicule limits things in colder waters although that's offset by her surface capabilities. Still wouldn't want to be a 'passenger' in winter (even northern scottish waters let alone more north in winter)
@StillAliveAndKicking_21 сағат бұрын
It’s dry on the surface, wet below. Crew could wear dry suits, I have no idea if this is suitable for very cold waters.
@lynneswinkels688521 сағат бұрын
@@StillAliveAndKicking_ normal they wear part of their gear under the dry suits although not fx parka's..... That helps keep warm in the water although that's limited.Other thing is is that dry suits aren't suited for artic surface weather. There migh be a solution to that but I don't know it. Seen divers wear parka's over their suit but that doesn't work if you need to go down below at speed (and stow the parka because wet it's useless). But like I said rather it not being me e ven if there is a working solution

UK newspaper 5th Sept. 2024 A member of Royal Navy personnel has died after a helicopter ditched in the Channel during a night-flying exercise. The Royal Navy said the Merlin helicopter crashed off the coast of Dorset on Wednesday night during the training exercise with the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier.

Damn more good money after bad! The country dosent have the budget for this. Need to cut running costs in the military by having fewer types of helicopters. Should have bought more wildcay lynx and merlins instead of a new type of helicopter.

If money is your issue here, then Labour could start by scrapping the £11bn foreign nation green energy assistance package being pushed through by Miliband. The 'new' British energy company is also a joke as so much taxpayer capital is being put/thrown down to sweeten the deal that any thought of value for money was strangled at conception. A project that can't be allowed to fail, and never will because they'll happily freeze pensioners in winter to pay for it. Yes, 1 or 2 didn't need it anyway pity the other 98/100 that did.... 2nd point: If the manufacturers of the RN's helicopters could meet Army requirements, don't you think they'd have bid for the contract?

Big mistake (UK always let down govt by cutting costs again and again - just look at your QE class Aircraft Carriers, always engine issues - when they should have been nuclear) - the rightful NMH should have been the Black Hawk (Sikorsky/Lockheed - the only battlefield proven helicopter over Airbus-Leonardo ) - time will show how this was another UK govt mistake

The Royal does require a new fleet of Mine Warfare Mothership Vessels, possibly a design based on the BMT Venari-85 concept or similar. Sadly I fear this will remain just an ambition as I believe Starmer’s Government intend on Raping the Defence budget, thus screwing over the Armed Forces in order to appease the Unions who act on behalf of the rest of the Bloated Public Sector.
