Nice demo of the Kato Compact Track set. One quibble -- it's pronounced "Kah-toe" not "Kay-toe". A tip about the track - separate it by bending horizontally, not pulling or flexing vertically. I've been playing around with the Compact Track a lot lately. It's surprising how much equipment will run on it. Most shorter 4-axle diesels (F units, GP20 and earlier) run fine even (or particularly) with body mount couplers. Most 40' and 50' freight cars with body mount couplers too. I have even got Bachmann 60' passenger cars fitted with body mount couplers to work well. Some equipment *does* need tuning, but that's part of the challenge/fun. Mixing body mount and talgo (truck mounted) couplers is asking for trouble, as you saw with the Atlas Dash-8 and a couple of random talgo equipped cars.

Thanks for the tip. Here I was trying to translate Kato to English when I should've pronounced like I would do it in my mother thong! I second what you are saying about separating the tracks. Much easier on a flat surface. Since I filmed this, I tested the CV1 with most N scale stuff I reviewed to see if it would work with it. I found out that most "bo-bo" (2 bogies of 2 axles) locomotive will work on it as you said. Any locomotive with either a "Bo-Bo-Bo" configuration , "Co-Co" configuration or a 0-6-0 configuration will not work.

Indeed, Kato is generous with the M1 set. All the "V" track sets also makes it easy to expand your layout. At some point, I'll have a better living space where I will be able to build something.

Tuff choice, I think you get more track with the Kato sets, but Tomix seems to have more availability locally. I have a lean towards the Tomix " Blue train " The price is good, and you get 4 cars plus loco. Then some extra track I can keep to about $ 300 Australia with free delivery . Many thanks for review.

FYI those power packs as shown are definitely not the same, you focused on the 1000mA aspect being the same, but the fatter one output AC power, where as the skinnier one had a DC output. Now DC is on the tracks of course, but the older controls converted to DC in the controller, where as the newer one apparently does it before. Don't mix them up, you will blow something.
@leewaymodels
@leewaymodels 27 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment, I looked them up in their boxes and you are right. I never noticed it until now. I guess the reason it is like that is that a version of the older powerpack also had an AC output for accessories. I will pin your comment and mention it in my next video with that power pack.

To improve performance on Lima ringfield motors I advise using technical petroleum jelly grease on the gears and on the axle pick-ups and a tiny drop of a mix of technical petroleum jelly and sewing machine oil on the rotor bearings. Technical support jelly grease reduces noise and improves conductivity.
@leewaymodels
@leewaymodels 29 күн бұрын
I was made aware that certains petroleum based oils and greases was harmful to plastic components. I use PTFE based lubricant (like Labelle 109) to prevent that.
