Actually you need to check your information. The movie came out first then the tv series here in the US. I watched the original movie in the summer of 78 then the series premiered that fall on ABC. And the major reason the tv series was cut was the 1 million dollar price tag per episode because of the special effects. Season Two was called Battlestar Galactica 1980.

The movie was tested in Canada during the summer of 1978. Changes were made to it based on those test screenings (that version is slightly different then what was finally issued). It was then issued in the spring of 1979 and rolled out around the world.

Decided to get in the Holiday spirt watching the original series. Just finished watching the Living Legend part 1 and 2 a few days ago, I am currently watching The Young Lords.... what a wonderful episode, possibly the best or one of the TOP ones. This show doesn't get old.. if I could ask Santa for a BSG collectable it would be so awesome to have a green costume like Baltar. Another great gift from the north pole would be to have a real life size walking and talking L series robot. Though I would choose Spectre with his attitude and cool robe instead of Luci. A BSG fan dream come true a life size Galactica or Pegasus museum would be awesome. I would be willing to buy a ticket to visit there instead of visiting any Disney theme park. Also, would love to see the bridge, landing bays, officers club, heck even that cool observation bubble on the rear by the engines. The one in the very last episode that had scenes of Nasa Moon Landing.

I was around four or five when Star Wars merch was all the rage(with good reason). In ‘78 & ‘79 my Christmas wishlist was quite simple. It was two words. Star Wars. Toys, cloths, books, sleeping bag…didn’t care as long as it was Star Wars. Come Xmas morning and my drunk a$$ mom dragged herself to the tree so we could open our gifts…what did she get me? Effing Battlestar Galactica toys. A big Cyclon and the Colonial Viper. Fck.

You gave enough hints, YES, it is true, there is a "Cylon Sex Model" that was featured in the mag. Fast forward about 35 years and the Japanese now have sex androids. Given enough time, Sci-Fi becomes real.

This reminds me of why Kirstie Alley never returned to Star Trek after TWOK. OK she allegedly made a stupid unprofessional mistake on set of ST2, but making such an insultingly low salary offer to ensure they could recast Saavik in ST3 was petty. Plus, if Nick Meyer had had his way and had the surprise villain in ST6 be SAAVIK (not the newly invented and thus predictably suss Valeris) then ST6 would have been even better than the epic movie it was.

I'm guessing that this channel didn't know that Gean Rodenberry had another show on TV about 70 or 71, maybe later. It starred John Saxon about a post-apocalyptic world with mutant survivors who had head ridges. I watched the show myself it didn't last long, but look it up.

As a kid in the USA, I saw the Battlestar Galactica movie. I was so surprised and confused because I was expecting a new movie, and instead it was the same as the first few episodes of the TV show that I had already watched, with a few differences. But I still enjoyed watching it in the movie theater because I liked the show so much.

I just looked at this issue.(I found a site having the Magazine Pages scanned) I can't believe what a big deal this was. Also weird looking at the old Magazine, as a whole. (Lot's of cheesy cigarette ads)- Also alot of genuine articles, some being very 'Current Events' or 'Political' pieces. As a teenage boy, in 1987, if this issue made it into my Porn Stash, it probably would have been at the bottom of that cardboard box! (the pictorials were 'meh')

Oh, Mission Galactica was a film I remember going to see for a lot of reasons; back then we had no telephone, and I got to the cinema (about a mile from my house) only to find it started about 45 minutes later than advertised. In those days you did your best to let your parents know where you were and how long you were going to be (that's how I was raised anyhow), and I couldn't raise our next door neighbour on her phone, so I ran (yes ran) all the way home to let mum know the film was late, then had to run all the way back to the cinema (I'd already bought my ticket) to see the film; made it just in time. Great film but when you watch the series you realise it was a mish-mash of different episodes.

I know when they reissued the original galactica, I bought one and it didn't include the booklet. I saw Mission in UK theatres on a double bill with the Buck Rogers movie in 1980. I had no idea Galactica was a TV series at the time. I also saw Conquest of the Earth in the cinema, a year or so later. We eventually got the TV series a couple of years later.

@carlgoddard_8 күн бұрын
@battlestarcollectica7106 It was certainly confusing as to why we suddenly had a new set of lead actors. And no indication in the film that it was set decades later and Kent McCord played a grown up Boxey, as that was cut. Also the trailer was misleading, as we thought the Cylons would attack earth. But that was just a projection in the final film.
