Dunno if you did the entire EP One, you mentioned Thread The Needle but not Fields of Elation or When The Bough Breaks. I feel like the relationship is already over and he's talking about how they don't really love, they just don't want to be alone so they're in this relationship for the wrong reasons. And in this song only when he is sleeping, they're happy, for "just a moment", "missing pieces find me, I'm whole again for just a moment". While Vessel knows he is partially to blame, he is calling out their lack of commitment and communication. Everything he does us on purpose. But i believe the relationship is definitely over, and his music is dark because that's the space he's in when he created his art
