Hey man, the info still stands. We’ve fed a bunch of hog feeds over the years. Purina doesn’t pay me a dime today, but we’re still feeding Purina this year. So maybe that says something. It’s the most expensive option if run into, but it’s also grown hogs pretty damn well, and can grab a bag from Tractor Supply on my way home from work at 8pm if I need to.

Thank you for sharing your insight with raising hogs. We have 3acres here in high desert of So Calif with garden, fruit trees, layer chicken, we order our meat chicken couple times a year. Now I want to expand to next level of self sustainable with pigs. Your video really helped. Only question is which breed to start? I hear commercial and heritage breeds..

Morning Jack, Our ATV club purchased a TYM 574 last year. How is this camera system holding up for you? Do you still like it?
@TheMindfulHomestead8 күн бұрын
The camera itself is still awesome. The magnet attachment system needs work. I almost lost it after it fell off while I was scooping some dirt and a branch knocked it off into the bucket of dirt I dumped somewhere else. I managed to find the camera because I could see it was on the surface, and I shone light on the pile with a flashlight and when I saw light on the screen, I went to the spot and dug it out.

I'm going to try this. Chipmunks are DESTROYING our yard and garden, it's honestly out of control. I have tried everything on the market to stop them and nothing works. I haven't wanted to end them, but I hit my limit today. You can't step anywhere around our house without finding holes or sinking into the ground because of tunnels. I'm done!

See...I enjoy companion chickens. Sex links only live about six years. Hoping for a longer lived chicken, I've been getting heritage chicks and raising them.....but so far, no luck on finding a FEMALE. It's getting to be a chore to care for and raise chicks that are going to be in someone else's soup pot. Unless I can buy DIRECTLY from a breeder who knows his breed....I'll stick to sex links. I've raised too many roos. Yes....I do a wing check, a tail check, a comb/spur check......(it's so much easier just to look for balls.) but chickens give you no clue. Lol....I've got chicken poop on my laptop... The chickens were raised with our german shepherd, and they go out, and come in....with him. He's a good boi. (he seems to enjoy having a job) In the past, mine have laid nearly until their deaths. Yes, year two.....sometimes as many as two eggs in 24 hours. That's superproduction and they can't do it for long. The more eggs they lay, the closer they are to death.....so....I've been looking for a hen who only rarely lays eggs.

You failed to address the question posed by the title... I have three roosters in a flock of 12 birds. Having four hens... I ordered 8 hens and received 3 roosters and 5 hens. I only wanted 1 rooster at most... Can I keep two? All three? do I need to add hens?
@TheMindfulHomestead15 күн бұрын
1 rooster to 9 hens is a pretty standard ratio. We keep one rooster with 30 hens.

Worked really well. And it would seem you don't even need bait or seeds. Made 4 of these to set up around the property. Thought I'd put them out while I waited on the seed I ordered to arrive. So the chipmunks would get used to them. Went out a week later to fill with sunflower seeds, and three of the four buckets had chipmunks in them. Working great for me . Thanks for the idea.

I've been processing and selling chicken for over 20 years. I use the language which is best for my customers, not the "industry" that wants to institutionalize local food production. The opinion of a vegan is also of no concern to me. Their opinions (dogma) are rarely founded in reality. They rely on emotional and psychological manipulation. Most importantly, they do NOT represent my customer base. Well, almost. When vegans need to take a break from veganism to recharge their health, my chicken seem to be their first choice. Why? because animal husbandry and animal welfare is more important to me than "labels". You do you, just make sure your choices serve the best master(s).

The BX is only if you want to mow, or need a small footprint due to space restrictions. If you need a chore tractor but no mowing and it doesn't have to fit in tight areas, than get a bigger rig.
@Lackieestatesfarm21 күн бұрын
My situation is similar to yours. Bought a brand new 2680 with cab and loader to replace our aged bx2200. We had 2 horses that lived at a neighbours place. 4 years later, we bought the neighbours place and now raise a small herd of cattle there and our needs evolved. A new tractor was cost prohibitive, and our BX does so many small jobs around the yard, and our local kubota dealer has been great to deal with. Our solution was to keep our 2680 for yard/garden work and small jobs. But, we bought a 1976 ford 4600 with a loader to do the large tasks. Paid cash for it. We do large work like moving round bales, plowing and planting ground to start to grow our own feed. Then great to keep the bx for small things, yet have a large paid for tractor for the farm chores

This guy makes sense... But seriously, the tractor offerings have changed so much over the years. Glad you have a great supportive dealer with TYM.

Extra roosters are what chicken dinner is made of. That being said, the one we kept is kind of an asshole, but he does his job. We got 40 baby chicks from him. We have tussled though and I had to teach him who was boss, but even then he still tries to go at me from time to time. Unfortunately, for him, I'm not afraid of him and will happily grab him when he tries to flog me. One tip, go out at night when he's roosting, grab him, and clip the spurs and nails. Dog nail clippers and a nail file are your friends.

I keep my roosters out in the yard in the early morning and overnight. When the hens come out during the day, I sort my excess roosters into the coop and leave my two main roosters out (chosen for being most docile with the hens, I also have 30 hens so they split between 2 roosters just fine). Most people either dont have the time or the patience to sort their birds every day, but I love my roosters. I have a total of 6, and they are not aggressive and I have grown fond of each 😂❤ I definitely do NOT need any more roosters though! I am set for a long time lol.

When I moved into my new home in NH, I knew I needed a tractor. I too was looking into a small compact tractor till I talked to my neighbor. He told me buy the biggest tractor you can afford because if you buy small you will wish you got a bigger tractor from Day one. So I ended up buying a used trade in JD4600. And funny thing was it was from the same place you bought your kabota. I went there to look at a used lx and saw the jd. The salesman said they just got it. And it had a cab with heat the the kabota I was going to buy didn't. Best thing I did. Makes cleaning the snow during storms much more enjoyable in a dry heated cab. Enjoy your new tractor!

I found your channel in the past with a Kabota BX search. I have been subscribed for a few years now. I have the BX with the front snowblower and like the ease of removing snow and summer bucket use for gardening and firewood transportation on my property. Storing it in the garage is also a plus. Thanks for sharing.

I bought a used Kubota BX2660 about five years ago. I don't have a farm, don't plan on having a farm and it's just enough on two acres here in CT. I've cut and moved tress, spread 10 yards of mulch every year, spread 16 tons of stone, spread many yards of top soil and have to say, is amazing! It's already paid for itself and more. I think when someone's looking for a tractor they have to look at their current situation and where their current and future expectations might go. It sounds like you were planning on expanding into bigger and better farming back then and probably should have gotten bigger. BUT....... things happen for a reason and seems to have worked out for you. Love the BX and if your getting older, as I am (55), this will help you do projects you would have had to pay someone to do, done. No matter what you buy, do your research, price shop, read the reviews and enjoy your next tractor! Every man should own one!
