I'm a bit concerned with the purchased feed you are using. The protein demands of a growing pig will not be met initially with this mix. A pig the size you are showing needs a feed mix that is at least 16% protein. In fact, for the next few weeks of growing, these pigs would do best on 14% mix. A sow mix, which was shown on the bag, will be 18% protein or less. Protein is essential for rapid growth, good muscle structure and development. That need is highest as the pigs are weaned , but can be gradually reduced until they go to slaughter.
@TheMindfulHomestead
@TheMindfulHomestead 3 күн бұрын
Thanks for the concern, but we never had an issue getting to proper weight on this feed. More important than the raw protein is the amount of lysine available in the feed to help convert that protein to muscle mass.

It wasn’t the feed. We never stopped feeding Purina when all the dingbats were claiming it and TSC feed was poisoned, and we saw less than a 4% drop in eggs for the winter before they went back to regular production. It’s been covered ad nauseum. Don’t fall for the fake BS.

@@freethinker5039 Neither do a lot of the KZbinrs who spread all the misinformation on the Purina feeds when it was supposedly and issue. Controversy brings views and views bring money. I had a pretty popular youtuber, a bearded man who dresses like the Amish, tell me point blank at "behind the scenes" that he would do and say things on his channel he didn't believe because it brought in the viewers. Very well explained thank you! I don't want to sound like I'm criticizing just asking questions, I've heard that one of the main issues in woodland pig grazing is that woodland systems don't necessarily take up nitrogen very quickly this leading to a lot of runoff from the manure. Have you any knowledge about this you'd be willing to share? I'm mainly asking because of concerns if the property I wanted to try it on was in a sensitive watershed

@TheMindfulHomestead
@TheMindfulHomestead 19 күн бұрын
It was -12°F out this morning when I went to check on the birds before work and the water was liquid from the bottom to the top. Heads up that you don’t want to put water in a coop in the winter anyway. It creates a humid environment that actually facilitates frostbite. In fact, coops shouldn’t be insulated either. You’re looking for a solid wind break and a roof, nothing more. It should be well ventilated year round.

Front mount blower and a backhoe is a pretty killer combo for a lot of reasons, if you can get over not having a rear blade. It's real nice for busting up the big berms so the blower can eat em, and gives a ton of margin for getting unstuck.

I have a blower on my 3320 Deere but I prefer the front blade with a pipe edge . Once you plow with it on gravel drives you'll never want to play with a blower, clogged shoots or shear pins again.

When you drive over the snow you pack it into ice that will turn wet and slippery when warm weather returns is what i see wrong with this blower type
@TheMindfulHomestead
@TheMindfulHomestead Ай бұрын
The snowblower is 1000lbs with a metal cutting edge. It pulls up anything you pack down easily.
@joedoe-sedoe7977
@joedoe-sedoe7977 Ай бұрын
But you admitted you had to set the shoes 3 inches high to avoid the soft ground and thats my point, you are driving over a foot of snow leaving the most impacted snow once you drive over it, rather that leaving 3 inches of unimpacted on a reverse blower ,it has been may experience to never drive over snow to avoid ice build up because my front loader with down pressure wont get under the ice even with a paved driveway. Even with a floating blade plow you still have stones and sod piles but at least it is not scattered and you can shovel it back in the spring
@TheMindfulHomestead
@TheMindfulHomestead Ай бұрын
@ A curved cutting edge on a blower is different than a bucket cutting edge. There’s a reason every residential snow removal service in Canada uses these things (and I just sold 2 to a service with 160 driveways in Albany, NY). If customers weren’t happy with the results, the industry wouldn’t be shifting this way. You’re welcome to keep doubting it, but these are the future. Plenty of other comments on this video to back it up.
