This is very good to know. Especially as someone who will always overdo everything...

Another thing we considered when buying a tractor was front axel capacity. Most manufacturers don't say what that is, but we found out about broken axles on sub compacts when carrying round bales in the field. They can lift the weight but the tractor sometimes can't carry it. We got the Massey Ferguson 2606h because the tractor itself was heavier, near 9000 lbs with loaded tires and a front axle as big as your leg. It's listed to lift about the same as yours but can carry it across a bumpy field which we need.

Sir, you own one hell of a tractor. That 2606 is a beast and I've heard only great things about it. I was getting one this year but this tym with the cab has me looking at it now. Still leaning towards the Massey but I don't know yet.

Thanks so much. New to homestead life and a tractor is something we are going to need. Just dont really know those needs yet until webget into it more. In Central NJ so snow is a factor and hey bails

Great video Jack! It was a about time someone did an updated video on lift measurements as it’s such an important part of the tractor buying process. *Keep on tractoring!*

What’s scary is how much capacity these things have compared to tractor weight. If you read the manuals carefully you need A LOT of added ballast weight to safely utilize the capacity. My 42 year old Ford 1700 has the lift capacity of a BX at the pin… around 700lb. But the machine weighs 4000lb with loader, rear wheel weights and loaded rear tires. Much more stable, and thus safer “out of the box”. Even with my “wimpy” loader by modern standards, I can get a rear tire off the ground in certain situations. Despite similar lift, the Ford 1700 loader is much more capable than a BX tractor loader. Anyone who needs loader reach - New Holland tractors generally have a lot of reach.

BX here - had the Land Pride forks and found them too heavy to do much when working with logs for the mill, so fabricated a set of purpose built 2' long forks out of 4 pieces of 3" channel. Can pick that up with one hand, and it comfortably carried a 13'x17" black walnut log, with plenty of lift height to put on the mill. As you say, physics is our constant, have to work around those limits.

Hi. How high can your tractor lift that ton of feed? Ty.

Do you ever worry about rodents getting into your tractor, eating your wires or getting into your HVAC system?
@TheMindfulHomestead11 ай бұрын
Not especially. It's not something I can realistically prevent, so I just hope for the best. The repellants that are out there only work long enough until the rodents get used to them.

Can the TYM do two loader functions at the same time?
@TheMindfulHomestead Жыл бұрын
It can. It’s slow if you’re at idle trying to do two funtions, and the stick is a lot more touchy about it than the Kubota, but it is possible.

What are you using for snow removal this winter on your new tractor?. Sorry if you already mentioned this in one of your videos. I would have missed it.
@TheMindfulHomestead Жыл бұрын
I have a video coming up on that, but we’ll be using a pull type snowblower.
@danielmarkleblanc1800 Жыл бұрын
Can't wait to see that. It will be interesting to see how it does in deep snow. I live in Atlantic Canada and my neighbors has a sub compact tractor with the inverted snow blower. In large storms with over 30 cm his tractors often gets stuck. I'm sure your new tractor won't have any issues with that. Love your videos and keep up the fabulous work. You've helped me make lots of decisions related to our own homestead watching you go through many things for the first time. Be well.

Great video! My wife found your channel and we both love your content. I saw that your forks are from Iron Craft; how do you like them? Would you buy more Iron Craft implements? I will be getting a tractor right after I retire, but I have been shopping for them and implements. Keep posting the great things you do.

Ahh yes. The fine print of breakout force, pin lift ratings, and lifting at height ratings! I always tell customers what you think you need what you can afford and what you really need are 3 different machines.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES ON HILLS? AS IN HAS YOUR ENGINE EVER SHUT OFF WHILE GOING DOWN A HILL? Mine did and losing all brakes is disturbing.
