What happened to the Assembly Workbench?🤨

Workbenches are sometimes abandoned by their maintainers so you might need to use a different one. I use A2Plus on FreeCAD 0.21 but I see that there is an Assembly workbench in FreeCAD 1.0RC2 so you might want to switch to that version.

Just starting out with FreeCad and found this really useful, thank you Jeff. I did notice that the tenons would in reality overlap by 10mm and you would need to shorten one or mitre the ends of each tenon for them to fit.

For more advanced users: You can modify and create new 'Part Info' fields in [a2p_partlistglobals.py] but there are a couple of caveats. 1) Any changes made will be overwritten if you update or re-install A2P. Make a backup copy that you can restore as necessary. 2) If you already have a Part Info entity in your file then it will have to be deleted or renamed in order to update the fields on existing documents. If you renamed the previous one then you can copy and paste each field as required. (I sometimes use the rename to maintain a history of changes). That's all I remember to watch out for. Thanks for the video !

Thanks for your feedback. I haven't revisited this since I published the video because I haven't changed my template. I don't have a solution to your problem unfortunately. I know I talked about it in either this video or the one about modifying a template, but perhaps changes in Inkscape and/or FreeCAD prevent it from working.

1/6/2024 I have round part with 20 ribs(radial pattern around center axis) -sort of like a turbine or wheel. To make the radial pattern of the initial rib is not problem, but the rib has a fillet all around and that gives me "NULL SHAPE" if I try to do radial pattern (separate of the ribs)...or just doesn't work (Message Failed the pattern-or something to that effect), when I try to do it together wth the ribs. At one itteration(I tried many) I was able to kake some of the fillets around, some were partial and others just not there at all.....
@GlassonDesignStudio
@GlassonDesignStudio 8 ай бұрын
Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I've had very mixed results using fillets and I haven't really identified why. I read some time ago that the fillet code was pretty old and prone to failing which is what you might be encountering. Did you try making the polar pattern and then filleting? Yes I know it's a lot of work and I don't know that it will work.
@jiritichy6855
@jiritichy6855 8 ай бұрын
@@GlassonDesignStudio filleting individually one by one is no problem. Also fillet all works except I have to erase those edges, which I do not want and that is somewhat time consuming.....

I saw one guy used Frenet in creating spiral thread with a helix in the Sweep tool rather than the specific Helix tool which is now also available. I you don't apply Frenet in rotating a triangle (for example) along a helical thread path, then the triangle twists as it is rotated around the helix and does not make the triangular thread. Soon as you apply Frenet then the Triangle maintains its orientation all the way along the path. The Helical Additive or Subtractive Tool does not have Frenet and does not have the problem of a rotating profile along the helical path. If you want to make a free Helix pathway one goes to the Part WB and chooses the Primitive tool. In the tool one can select a helix and set up its radius, pitch etc. Then return to the Part Design WB. It appears a longer way with pitfalls but there are quite a few other pathways available in the primitives that can be created as well.

Thanks for your feedback. I haven't actually tried any of that so I will take your word for it and try it out at some point. My main use case for FreeCAD is to design furniture and it's rare that we need to design threads but I appreciate you explaining it to me.

I find that if I draw on datum planes, I can detach and re-attach to faces, axes, etc at a later stage to fix up the effects of this problem. I'm tending to create datum planes on axes, then positioning them (offset, angle), rather than attaching to faces in order to avoid the naming problem.

In the 1st example, where do you set the mirrored spacing?
@GlassonDesignStudio
@GlassonDesignStudio Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. The mirror is made relative to the plane that you select, so the distance between the two objects is twice the distance between the object and the selected plane.
