Very nicely done Michael and very pensive. Some fine arrangements forget the text and bang away at this. Yours is musically almost correct. Just watch out here for the raised top note on the first melodic statement as it comes back down. Your version is actually 1/2 step higher than "What Child...." and it becomes "Green Sleeves" . Study the early church modes. Great playing. Maybe you'll do it again and have the piano not tuned to equal temperament. An expert on modal construct could do wonders for this arrangement.

What piano+mic setup do we use? I want a home setup, do not have money for an expensive studio with $100k grand piano+$15k for a microphone. I just want something nice to play on - preferably accoustic grand+nice mic setup. What do you recommend? Should I get a midi kit for an accoustic grand or a silent grand or? Maybe under $5k-$10K total. I can't stand VSTs+controllers unless I am recording a hip hop album.

Thank you beautiful soul. You made me realize I spend more much time trying to learn complex music so I can seem like a better player to those around me instead of focusing on my own songs.

the control that you exhibit in each note is incredible. The piano you chose for this song is also incredible in enhancing the beauty of the music.

The moment that I posted my first song in years, my delusions of grandeur were shattered by the lukewarm, at best, reception it recieved. Now I feel like I can just make music, less pressure and stress. Strange how that works out😂.

Why do we make music? This is a huge question and you really need to ask yourself this. It's okay if there are multiple reasons but try to stay away from the reasons that are more self serving.

Love this! "Grab what you need" - such a good perspective. I needed to hear this, relieving after feeding myself all of these success-stories of musicians who seem to "have it all together". It's good enough to play and enjoy the ride, if that's what you're about. Thanks!

I have been going through that for a long time. Its my first time seeing these switcheroos of desires to do thousands of things in that perspective. I kind of saw that as "inspiration to create" but really it always just gives you short bursts that mostly exhaust you mentally. And as an ego... it makes sense. Seeing something you find amazing and try to be/replicate that just cuz u want to feel good about yourself. It also explains even if you reach something, theres always "this next thing" with little no thinking about previous achievements. I tend to feel really inferior to ppl that have some knowledge in fields i find "cool". Thats not the authentic thing to be with, is it? Thank you for your insight!

yep, i agree, there was time once i wanted to be so great and beat anyone i've heard, and make music as complex as i could, now i just doing what really matters. i've discovered i'm good at mixing, and sound, though my music is simple and minimalistic i can make it sound so damn atmospheric, i've found my thing and i gonna stick to it. That's all is about finding your thing and mastering it, though you need to keep in mind that it's not a race, not a competition! it's art, art got no rules, there's no way to tell who's better, besides some obvious delusional dudes' stuff) lol. p.s. i love jazz too) but i'm a synth gothic dude, i love jazz chords and i do use them.

Hi Michael, thank you for taking the time to put out this video. You are very honest and vulnerable with your feelings and insights, it's really cool to witness. I can only imagine as a musician....when playing, you are "giving" yourself fully.....then when its all done, you are not on the "receiving end" of anything, after giving of yourself. That must feel sad and lonely, especially if you don't have a significant other that watches your shows or gigs. But yeah....the loneliness is a very deep thing to deal with. I love Asilomar, its my favorite place to be, so peaceful and still, I love it. 🙂❤ I think you are a beautiful soul Michael.
