Got to love when music does the heavy lifting. If you mute it the first 30-40 seconds is literally a guy walking across the parking lot. Take it off mute and suddenly it feels dramatic.

Retasking reconnaissance satellites are a godawful mess of orbital paths, fuel budgets, electrical resources, not to mention the cost! It's possible, but they don't just do it for no single terrorist group. But OTOH, retasking the birds also means that the satellite office will get VERY busy looking at other assets and resources that are unaware of the changes made. A bonanza for everybody that's hunting for Threats.

They don’t but the KGB would have through spies. The IRA are communist and were allies with the USSR who would have provided that data.

@ReaverLordTonus Because satellites are easy to see and amateurs can create almanacs of them based on their location and trajectory (KH satellites are in low polar orbits for 100% coverage of the Earth).

It's crazy to think about, but this premise of this movie really went down in real life. If you don't know, in this movie a spec ops team gets sent in to eliminate the Cartel. But the CIA makes a deal with them, and the team gets betrayed and wiped out. Of course Jack Ryan finds out, gets pissed, and confronts the president about it. In real life an American DEA agent named Kiki Camarena got killed by the Guadalajara Cartel back in the 80s, on orders from the DFS, who were created by and recieve their orders from the CIA. According to DEA Agent Hector Berrellez, the dude who ultimately killed Camarena was a Cuban CIA agent named Felix Rodriguez. But Rodriguez denies these claims. It goes deep as fuck too. Apparently the dude who brokered the alliance between the Columbian and Mexican Cartels to ship Cocaine into America was a guy named Juan Matta-Ballesteros. According to a senate committee report by John Kerry (yes THAT John Kerry), a Honduran Airline called SETCO was used by the Contras to smuggle coke. That airline was owned by Matta. The CIA, as literally everyone knows, were being funded by the Contras.

Not sure if anyone has ever pulled off this kind of ambush and escape of a prisoner successfully. But I feel like if they make it policy where if they are ambushed, they are authorized to just waste the prisoner. It would definitely give anyone pause before trying it as their objective could end up dead.
