So where does the hatred come from?
@user-rx8kg9lc6wАй бұрын
@@vuho2075 It was explained (albeit briefly) in the movie and I think later in the actual book. Sean Miller became radicalised after his Father was killed by the RUC. His Father wasn't IRA, just a Priest at the time of this death. That's where the hatred comes from, that's why Sean became radicalised, that's why Inspector Highland could understand why he was who he was.

Sean Beans acting as he fires the gun is brilliant.

Respectfully, I disagree. The way he blinked with each shot jumped out as someone who wasn't comfortable firing a gun. A stone cold killer like Sean Miller, who had been around guns all his life, wouldn't have blinked.
@troybingham6426 Жыл бұрын
@Documentary Detective III Ha ha. Yes, good point. Really though, anyone who shoots regularly can do it. It just takes a little practice. But it's a mistake a lot of actors, who I assume don't shoot in real life, make. I never noticed it until a few years ago when I got into sports shooting. But once you see it you can't un-see it. Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis are terrible for it. It's one thing if an actor is playing a regular type guy who ends up having to use a gun. But when Martin Riggs and John McLean shoot like they've never handled a gun before.. I don't know.. for me it takes me right out of the fantasy.

Keep the door closed cause they are not gonna blow up the van cause the prisoner is in there. One of the stupidest things to do was opening the door. The top two or three higher-ups that organized this prisoner transfer should've sent all three van teams out empty at the very last possible minute - just to see if any rescue ambush would be attempted. An unscheduled and unannounced trial run would've saved lives and help determine who was leaking information to the IRA.

In reality, they would have been heavily armed. AR's (or FAL's), MP5's, and maybe a shotgun or 2. There are plenty of armed regular police in England, plus all the special units. They might have even brought an SAS squad for a key prisonet like Millet. And the transport van would have gun ports. They might even have a few grenades in case of an attack like this, or at least flash bangs. Still a good scene.

@@crazyralph6386 That might be somewhat true. But i have an S&W Model 10 (4" 38 revolver), dated 1978 or 79, with markings from ine of the rural constabularies (i forgot which one). Possibly it was an in the armory just in case gun, or maybe the rural constabularies needed to be somewhat armed because of less backup, or some other factor. But i have always had the feeling that British police are not as unarmed as they want people to believe. When regular patrol officers started being armed some years ago, i think it was 1 handgun per car, in an electronic lock box. So at least they have something. But, agr cirs being line they are, they probably have to document and justify every time they take it out, so they are less likely to have it out ahead of time. And odds are, when the sewage hits the impeller, they are not in or next to their car. Most likely in a building somewhere. Hard to call time out to run back to your car. That is why i always had my shotgun (or, later, my rifle) out before i thought i might need it. The whole ounce of prevention/pound of cure thing. And thankfully, in 21 years i never had to fire either one
@crazyralph63866 күн бұрын
@@troy9477 Very interesting. Glad you were able to keep your service revolver, it’s certainly a treasure. In typical Hollywood form, they made this faction of the IRA better armed than the Navy Seals, with RPG’s, street sweepers, actual Soviet made AK’s, MP5’s and even NVG’s(used in the climax). That just wasn’t the case during their heyday. If you read a bit about Whitey Bulger and the Winter Hill gang, they used to run guns for the IRA and would laugh cause they made a boatload of money sending them their throwaways, including old Elmer Fudd shotguns, bolt action rifles, and M14’s which were way too heavy for urban warfare. Their main weapon of choice was explosives, and they were pretty damn proficient at working with them.

They only caught about half of them. Some like Seamus McElwaine and Padraig McKearney returned to active service. (RIP) Others like Dermot Finucane went on the run and were freed by Irish courts. Others like Gerry Kelly have become active with Sinn Féin. Republican prisoners also used their time in jail to get University educations up to PhDs. Meanwhile the loyalists spent all their time in the gym, looking at weight lifting magazines, doing drugs and - in many cases - each other. If I remember correctly, when one of the loyalists tried to escape he got crushed in a trash compactor. Something like that.
