I see now that they're shipping within a week. When we bought it, it had a 3-month lead time! We then added the Kuat Pivot 2 Swing Away Hitch Extender from etrailer so we can swing the bikes out. So far so good, but this was an exPENSIVE but very useable solution. And yep, my true colors show a WEE bit too much in this one. Wait until the next episode.... 😎😎

Probably too late to help, but, there is a private campground about a 1/2 hour north (sky high camp resort, near cascade mountain ski resort) and Devils lake state park about 45 minutes NW of madison. The state park usually has a few sites open all winter. There is a KOA south of madison at Milton, but not sure of their status. You might be able to overnight at the university, but, don’t know about that.

The absolute worst purchase I ever made was a new RV ,, nonstop issues and quality problems,, and from what I see on line this is quite common,,, apparently no one knows how to build things anymore,,, I had an old 1979 motorhome that didn’t give me anywhere near the problems as the new one !! Good Luck !! 👍🇺🇸

RVs are certainly a pain for upkeep. And you're right - I think this is a problem whether you purchase a $25K or a $500K RV. Yes, this would work well. So, we bought the hitch through etrailer, though you can also get it on Amazon. Yet another thing to ponder on our travels!

I have 20" DDC wheels and 34" tires. Excellent combination and looks great. (to me)

@TheJoslynJourney No. I didn't ever drive the truck with the OEM tires. Upgrading the tires & wheels was in the back of my mind when we were spec'ing out the truck. But when we saw it nearly finished but still OEM tires & wheels the first thing my wife said was "those have to go!" She was totally right. I've emailed you photos of before & after. It totally changed the look of the truck. Plus any Discount Tire (or other) can service/replace my tires. I don't need a truck stop. If you'all wanna cheap out on insurance, self-insure, other than the required liability for driving on public roads. 🙂 You can also self-insure your home, just like apparently most people in Florida may have to? However, I had a MINOR accident, hitting a patch of ice, went over the sidewalk and struck two landscape rocks with my 2022 Kona N-line. The oil filter mount pad, which is part of the engine block, cracked. Total repair bill was $23,000 CAD. Insurance is cheap. ;-) The summer before, a hailstorm made the car look like a golf ball with a hundred dimples. Paintless dent repair had the car looking new in two days, cost to insurance was $5.000 CAD. A week after buying the car, a rock took out the windshield, cost to insurance was about $2,000 CAD.
@TheJoslynJourneyАй бұрын
Agreed... Insurance is cheaper if you have a bigger accident. And with us being full-time on the road, our chances of getting into an accident are higher. Our vehicle is paid off, but we still keep comprehensive coverage so we won't have to pay for it all again. It's just annoying we have to pay commercial insurance rates on a vehicle that is only for personal use. *sigh*

@TheJoslynJourney Everything has doubled since 2020, EXCEPT fixed incomes and average wages. A septic pump company charged us $900 CAD for one hour's work, when the average for other companies is about $400, which also seems extreme to pump and haul 1,000 gallons. The base was $285 plus disposal fees of $185, but there were add-ons, including shoveling, fuel surcharge, etc?
@TheJoslynJourneyАй бұрын
That's certainly frustrating. But your right- this is the new price of everything.
@Joe-cu4hiАй бұрын
Insurance is exhausting. They make it a science to not cover or cover as little as possible yet continue to raise your policy like clock work every 6 months. I recall in the mid 1970’s the insurance industry was pushing to make auto insurance mandatory and the spin was it would be so so so cheap if everyone had to pay. We know now they have us by the throat. Now apartment renters have mandatory renters insurance. What will be mandatory next? Maybe the can come up with having only quarterly policies so they can raise your prices 4 times a year 😂

Awesome content and thank you very much for sharing. We have a truck camper and an F350 which was originally insured through Allstate. Last year while wintering in Florida as we do annually for 6 months I contacted my agent from Allstate and asked him if our TC and truck were insured under a number of different scenarios. One of those scenarios included being uncoupled. He got back to me and informed that we were not insured in that scenario. Consequently a division of Allstate - National General was recommended by the agent. NG underwrote the TC for all the scenarios we figured we would need in the event of a loss. So in the end the cost for an annual policy for just the truck camper with an agreed value of $35k was ~$500/year. Our truck is still insured - non commercial through Allstate for ~$2000/year full coverage. 2021 F350 DRW CC LB 6.7L Power Stroke.

Hmmm... I'm not sure what your friend is referring to. As far as we know, the only seal Host has is the double-lip seal on the outside of the slide. All we did was add a 2nd seal on the inside of the slide (for each slide). This is the best plan if you're traveling during the winter. If you're planning on being stationary, you can seal from the outside (there have been posts on the Host FB page showing those options). Since we move, we didn't look at that very closely.

For additional context. I told them I would be removing the Host periodically to use the truck for "around town" driving, to which they told me it would not be eligible for insurance as an "RV" as the Host would have to be permanently fixed to the truck for that classification. Looks like you are already double verifying your policy, but there may still be some holes in it if your use-case doesn't align perfectly with the underwriters understanding.

We've heard so many horror stories of damage due to freak winds, etc. we don't put it out a ton. We did show our setup in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqWWm56GdpZ4o5o. We try to point to the south for best solar so mornings on the passenger side can get very toasty. The awning does help to keep that side cooler and helps the refrigerator stay more consistent. But the fear of damage is real. And the awning caps are basically tree fodder - we gave up replacing them and just duct tape them together 😄. If I was going to put one on my rig that didn't have one, I'd probably look for one that can be angled downward. These electric ones just go out and back. Having one that can be angled down could help in the rain (ours puddles and we have to use a broom to lift the material up to drain. Just a thought!
