With so many electronic systems, what lightning strike protections does the Amel have? Is there a fast way to shut down all the systems in a lightning storm? A master switch for emergencies? Because a solo or short handed sailor could be endangered by the loss of all those electronics. As someone who lives in the tropical Australia it’s a major issue.

Thanks for the review. I have been aboard an Allures, but have never sailed one, so interesting to hear how they handle. They are undoubtedly good looking boats and nicely fitted out down below, with high quality joinery, etc. However, a point you didn’t discuss in your review is a fundamental feature of the Allures range, which is that they are not of all-aluminium construction. The deck and parts of the transom are GRP, as can be seen in some parts of your video. This implies some sort of watertight bonding mastic or seal between the deck and hull assemblies. Aluminium and GRP have different strength, stiffness and coefficients of expansion, so a small amount of differential movement between the hull and deck is inevitable. How then, does Allures guarantee the integrity of this seal ? It is true that the deck and hull of most production yachts are constructed separately and then bonded together to form the complete hull. But that is bonding plastic to plastic. Bonding an aluminium hull to a plastic deck is a completely different proposition. Although not an expert, or a boat-builder, I am quite familiar with aluminium yachts, being the owner of an Alubat OVNI. One thing I can state with confidence is that over time, nothing sticks to aluminium. Not even paint. So how does Allures get a plastic deck to stick to an aluminium hull in a manner that will remain flexible and watertight for the life of the boat? If I were to upgrade from my current boat, then I would consider a Boreal, KM, Garcia, or another OVNI. However, Allures would not be on my shopping list.

a great alternative to the pullman bed cabin in the port-side hull would be a utility room - a full-sized washing machine and an extra freezer would fit easily in there, with plenty more space for other stuff.

your camera work is OK, but: 1. you do need to find a way to sync your camera with a boat’s lighting, to avoid that pesky banding effect. 2. use a lens that works in low light 3. the little I’ve seen of your gear seems to indicate your camera is mounted on a gimble? yet there’s a fair bit of shakiness going on. still, congrats on the opportunity to shoot around one of those legendary boats.

A view from the UK. As much as i would love to sail, there is one thing that stops me and for a visual example it is in the opening shots of this video. From 50secs in just watch the marina appear on the horizon. Almost every video i watch on youtube is the same, 'chocca-block' full marinas throughout Europe. Add to that mooring fees are astronomic if you can get a berth. I assume this is La Rochelle where Amel's are made yes? Is it true that the vast majority of berths are occupied by overseas owners keeping their 'pride and joy' moored the whole year for their one or two yearly holiday?

Nice! -- QUESTION -- So, if I forced you to decide, would you take the HR50 or the Amel 50? Also, what do you think of the HR 57 - is it as good as the 50? The reason I ask is I am not sure that it is a larger version of the 50 or part of the older generation of HR boats. It doesn't seem as wide in the rear as it should be. Should be another foot or two feet wider imo. Wish they would redisgn it and make it a proper width.

Gin tonic is a very good choice on the tropics, against malaria. A must! :) Wow, now one can finally say he has the Porsche of the seas! Very nice boat, looks very well finished, the deck layout is - all the boat, actually - quite spacious. I found the dinghy garage more a "storage wet space" than a dinghy garage, specially because there's a ladder on the way and it's somewhat tight for a dinghy. It'd certainly need those "pillars" for the dinghy (ops, forgot its name...) Is that teak on the deck synthetic? I'd say it's bill is around 1 mil something €, right? A very stylish Med boat, for its internal and external space distribuition/design. For world sailing I believe a dedicated nav station would be a necessity.as a workshop space and big water and fuel tanks. Thanks for the video! see you on the next!

So if I want to drink lots of Gin I need to go back to Africa, well that going to be my excuse now anyway. Elan are great boats and when they collaborated with Porsche to design the interior of the GT it was a genius move. As you say these sailboats are in their element in the med or waters like that. Lots of fast champagne sailing. The deck was real teak but you can option for synthetic if you want. The price is around the 1 million mark yes.

A beautiful cruising yacht particularly with the extended transom. I noticed opening hull ports in the heads and galley - presumably as this is not an EU boat? The backwash those seascape windows produce - I'd want the windows flush with the outer hull as it would drive me nuts otherwise. But what a platform to watch the world go by from.
