The Contest is a lovely sailboat, but in this price bracket would not be our first choice. The interior is great though a big thumbs up on that.

@@YachtingInsider same here - not going to be able to buy that one anytime soon. But if I win the lottery that I don't play, I promise to offer you and the family a lovely sail ;)

Thank you for another awesome review! Beautiful boat! I was going to say that she is a serious contestant in the blue water cruiser category until I saw a sail drive. Call me old fashioned but blue water = shaft to me (especially for circumnavigation). The steps to the saloon seem kinda steep (a concern for those of us getting older) but maybe it's the camera angle. She looks like a sloop (I prefer cutter in blue water cruising). And I believe I read that she has spade rudders (for blue water I think skeg are better). So I would put her in the Med, Caribbean, coastal cruising category. What do you think?

I Like this boat, but there are a few too many buts for me; the sail drive is not a big deal for me, but it does have the potential to leave a big hole in the boat. I think you are right about the cruising ground, but she seems to be more of a part-time cruiser than a blue-water contender.
@constantinealexandrakis Жыл бұрын
Yes, the hole is one issue. The other is that if I'm not mistaken, sail drives require the boat to be hauled out annually to be serviced. With shaft drives, it's less frequent. So it might be an issue for someone planning to spend a long time at sea though I suspect that's a niche crowd.

@@constantinealexandrakis There are pros and cons to both, but shaft drive will always be preferred for true blue water cruisers, even if from just a safety point of view. There is always an extensive discussion around sail drive and prop shaft.

why are all the sailboatsf shy to show the keel show the boat and not the keel , whats that all about
@YachtingInsider11 ай бұрын
For these bigger boats in indoor shows, it's all about stand space and easy transport, it just makes it harder with the keel on. Hope that helps?
