The 2nd Gen Tundra is a perfect example of Toyota over engineering its trucks because they have a reputation to live up to. They are also the underdog compared to Dodge Ford and GM.

Max. Tow Capacity Simple You only need to take empty truck to scale with trailer connected and weigh together. Then pull trailer tongue off scale and weigh just weight over axles of trailer. This gives tongue weight when subtract first total weight from weight of just trailer axles on scales only, tongue off scale weight. Your truck empty weight will be with no one in drivers seat and low fuel. Empty truck. Sticker on door post gives empty weight

How do you add tongue weight twice into trailer? At 2:30 you say trailer erighs 4900$ and now add tongue 580#. Tongue is part of trailer weight. But over axles only weight of trailer will be a lower number. But towing you need whole trailer weight only to figure towing weight being reached for weight limit towing

So a lot of gripes but no problems. If I could buy any truck right now new or used I would still go with v8 Tundra. I value reliability over bells and whistles.

Just came across this video… how do you manage payload with a half ton? Thanks. I’m thinking of getting a 23 foot airstream and towing it with an F150.

@@milesv5352 you’ll do just fine with a 23’ Airstream and F150, I have a video titled “Payload and Towing Capacity Myths” it should give a good starting point

As long as you never leave the road, never drive on wet road or drive in snow, this is a decent tire.

Your right I had 2022 Z71 1500 with a 7200 pound travel trailer And the truck was 5169 and it had a towing rating was 9300 and hitch weight rating of 900 pounds and when did the math I traded it in on a 2500 Z71 crew cab with a tow rating of 14,500 and I don’t worry about it anymore

I value your opinion on my question due to the several videos of your I’ve watched already and you seem very knowledgeable on this particular truck. What truck should I go with to keep for the next 10 years? I won’t be doing hardly any towing, the occasional weekend getaway to the lake with the boat, 150-200 miles round trip, a few times a year. I’m here in Texas, the main thing is a constant 75-85% city and the rest highway driving, probably average out to be 20-22k miles a year give or take. Is it worth really getting a tundra for this type of daily driving? With how much I’ll be driving I mainly interest in reliability and mpg. My literal only other option is the ford f150 2.7 ecoboost, I’ve heard that it’s great for this particular type of daily driving and the most reliable in the lineup (love the 5.0 more but it’s got oil consumption issues from what I’ve heard). Everything else from other engines to manufactures all have serious issues and not are too new… thanks.

Everything else from other engines to manufactures all have serious issues and not are too new… thanks.

My 3.0l duramax LZ0 gets 28-30mpg through the city and 16mpg towing 10,000lbs, 24 gallon tank isn’t an issue at all. Just wish the DEF consumption was better while towing.

The scuffs in the interior are just the facts of life when it comes to having a black interior. I’m getting a black/black limited from a man in Decatur. And I’m a Toyota guy. I also have a Camry as a commuter car, and my wife has a 4Runner.

The reason airbags should be separate is when the truck leans, all the air from one bag gets pushed into the other airbag, basically acting like you have nothing there, giving no support on the side being compressed. With your setup and the rear sway bar it is not an issue for you, but trucks hauling a heavy, tall load in the bed such as a bed mounted camper, the airbags cannot be teed together.

It is disheartening we have become such a cynical, glass half-empty society. I question the motivation to publish a “doom and gloom” opinion without supporting facts and without knowing the planned solution. Why is it that we hold others to a higher standard than we hold ourselves?

Did you ever consider the Roadmaster Active Suspension system instead of airbags? If you did, what led you to choosing the Firestone airbags instead? We have a 2018 Tundra CrewMax Limited towing a Lance 2375 -- or at least attempting to, once we sort out the rear end squat and weight distribution. My wife and I have been told, "There's no way your truck can tow that trailer," and we point to your channel as proof it can be done. Thanks for the inspiration!
