Not so fun fact: The UH-1 Huey helicopter that was used in this scene (N98F) crashed two years ago with everyone inside dead. What a sad end for an iconic chopper that was used in many a Hollywood movie.

this is how you make an action movie, not just putting explosions, car chases and bullets everywhere and every second. You have to time it with the plot and the music and create a crescendo.

In Nothing Lasts Forever, (the book this movie is based on) the hero (named Joe Leland in the book) actually lands on top of the executives corpse (the one Gruber killed near the beginning) and after surviving the jump from the roof and nearly falling out the window, Leland looses it and in a fir of horror and rage, fires his machine gun into the body till the mag was empty. Like...Jesus, can you imagine McClane doing that?

It's literally the best scene from any action film ever. The audience is completely invested, no CGI, real effects.

Incredible visual trickery nonetheless. Not CGI, but the use of matting, compositing and other techniques is practically flawless besides a few tiny scaling issues with the helicopter that are practically impossible to notice in the middle of the action. It’s utterly convincing. Same with Die Hard 2, the miniature effects are stunning, especially the final plane exploding in mid-air, looks totally real.
