I love Bruce Willis’s acting when he’s pulling out the hose knowing what he’s about to do and for a split second it’s like he wants to breakdown and cry. Part of this movie’s great appeal was making John McClane a vulnerable human, not like an invincible Schwarzenegger type.

I love how McClane talks to himself because of fear. That is totally realistic and something I do often. That's why I like this character. The most thrillingly dynamic pure action movie I have ever seen, and this sequence is a great climax of all that has come before. Every cut seems to be in the perfect place to propel the narrative, and the way the plot points evolve and combine and swirl around each other (FBI vs. John vs. explosives) is like a great musical composition, only made of sound and images. It really takes time to build, so that by the time the climax arrives, it is at a crescendo fever pitch that is a sight to behold. I've watched it dozens of times, and could cue it up right now and be enthralled again from beginning to end.

Bruce Willis was last choice for role behind a 65 year old Frank Sinatra, Chuck Norris, Sylvester Stallone, Van Damn and of course Schwarzenegger. Willis was a rom com moonlighter never played an action role before. But everything came together just right and it became a masterpiece of film. It's up on the shelf with Indiana Jones, The original Star Wars Trilogy, HEAT. Many more but movies you will watch anytime anywhere no matter how many times youve seen it before. The ones you're flipping channels and land on it and no matter what duration is left your mind connects to it and your finger stops and you put down the remote and time has no meaning lol. You know those films. Die Hard is definetly one of those

I also liked the scene for how it flows with each party's plan building towards the climax (Hans needing to blow the roof so his plan works; the FBI gunning for John; and John needing to get the hell off the roof because it's about to blow). You just don't get movies with scenes like this anymore.😓

It took me several viewings before I realised the helicopters are miniatures. Maybe they couldn't get authorisation to use real helicopters in a built up area. Part of what hides this is the editing and Michael Kamen's music, but take a look at each of the helicopter shots. The real scale becomes clear and they deliberately avoid giving you a close up view of the interiors. You either don't see anyone inside, or when you do they are completely static. When a shot includes both live action and the miniatures, there is always a composite line between them, or what looks like an image projected on a screen, or forced perspective.
