I can’t stand all this extra stuff with restaurants, just cook me a chow mein in the back, bring it to my table and then leave me alone, I’m not cooking my own stuff and I don’t want it swimming in a sea of broth, I think il give extra restaurants like this a miss…… also I’m not cooking my own food… speaking of food, I’d rather stick to a Chinese shop, at least they have what I actually want……

Your parents were right to work hard and try to assimilate. That's what we did when we moved here. I was embarrassed that my parents couldn't speak English, and that made me try, and work harder. That is literally the key to success in this country. If you work hard and do what you're supposed to do, it's hard not to be successful in America.

I’m so sorry you had this experience. I 100% guarantee you if you had grown up near me this would not be the case. I was friends with an Indian guy and I would notoriously show interest in his food, one day he cooked something for me and that was it, friends for life. (FYI. I live in a small rural village in the north) I somehow magically attract people from different cultures and tbh I wouldn’t want it any other way. Who else would I have to bring me back bags of rice flour when they go home?! My dad worked in both mainland China, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Dubai and India when I was younger, I love learning new things (& eating them. Duh) and I’m so glad he showed me that when I was young, it’s so natural to me, to be surrounded by different cultures, I forget other people don’t have that same experience. My point is. Not everyone is like this- you just got to find the people that are interested. I wish I could have told you that as a kid.
