I really wish kf allowed more than 2 square filters to be stacked. It looks like the filter rails can be unscrewed, so with some careful measurements, I could probably 3d print a rail that stacks 3 or 4 filters, but it would be nice to be able to stack 3.

Good evening. I picked up my cameras again the middle of last year. After reading about how to use and set film simulations in Fuji cameras, I learned that the X100S I bought a few years before lacked the ability to store white balance adjustments with the custom setting. That determined the need to upgrade my X100S to the newer X100V. Unfortunately, a new one could not be found and used instances were selling over list. However, I had a good year and decided to buy a used X100V at slightly over list. It was a good upgrade and I used that camera quite a lot last year. in fact, I have it with me on the road this year. It produces excellent images and is quite usable at higher ISO values. My encouragement to anyone buying one of these lovely cameras is to spend time with the manual and watching YT videos on its use. It can do a lot. It will take reps to make all of that stick. It is worth the effort. Great video. Thanks... and God Bless!

Your work is lovely. I came by here because I am looking for a square filter system. I recently bought a Bronica S2A to shoot film. Film shooting requires filters. Thanks for posting a review of the K&F Concept system. I then decided to look at some of your other videos. This one attracted me. I am an amateur photographer and have been for 50-some years. I have taken on work now and again, but mostly for friends or for students who needed headshots but couldn't afford a professional. So, I'm a hack. But... what you say in this video rings true regardless of what one does. I've been watching a lot of Alex Kilbee's videos recently (he's a great teacher) and am reminded of Stephen Pressfield's work as a writer. Pressfield's thesis is "Be professional. Show up every day. Do the work." Kilbee's words and teaching is very similar, although I don't know if he's read Pressfield. What does this have to do with your video? Well, I hear the same theme resonating in your presentation. Get out, make some images, do the work for yourself that needs to be done as well as the work that pays the bills. I think that approach sets things up for God's providence to step in and take over. Because you did that work, you won a favored client. That's God's providence, my friend. Blessings...

Great video, thanks for this. Convincing me to get one. Although I find it funny how photographers talk about the cost of things - I work in film and the last tripod head I bought cost me £4000 GBP... Not to downplay the cost of this head, it's expensive in terms of stills - but in film you learn very quickly that quality and precision are VERY important, and very costly to produce. Worth the money though.
@JohnMagnoski Жыл бұрын
Agreed. As someone who does both, quality gear is crucial. It’s why I mention the price in the video. Most people don’t understand the value in gear like this. Enjoy the head when you get it. It’s awesome. So glad I got it.

Capture One has basically done nothing to improve the HDR and Pano. features. After splitting from Phase One in 2019 they floundered with poor management for over a year before hiring Rafael Orta as CEO in late 2020. Orta's vision seems to be trying to pass off sub grade improvements as the finished product, then moving on to something else and in the process introducing more and more bugs that, again, don't get fixed. And, on top of this they seemed bent on pissing off as many users as possible while raising prices to industry high standards. Both Phase and Capture One are owned by the same private equity firm, Axel, and their vision is profit before anything else. Orta is driving Capture One to a shell of it's former self and they are starting to lag behind the competition. After going to subscription Adobe did little in the way of innovation for years. Now, in the last couple of years they are starting to innovate again and Capture One is the looser in this. This from a Capture One user since V-7 and I love the product it was and still use V-22 but will not update or give them any more money until they change their ways.

Well said. It’s so frustrating to have been using and supporting a product for so long only to feel like the company isn’t as motivated to make it the best possible. I actually rejoined Adobe last year to play with some of their new tools and I’m very impressed. I still don’t love LR, as I prefer to work in sessions now, and I prefer how C1 does Layers. I’m sticking with C1 for now and will continue to manually blend and stitch as I always have. The Raw engine is still superior compared to Adobe. Although On1 is looking good now too. God Bless!

I have a question about the difference between Geared Panning and ClickPan. What are the differences in the function of panning or rotating the camera? Or what are the differences in usage logic?
@JohnMagnoski Жыл бұрын
I’m not entirely sure. My assumption is that the geared pan (my version) allows for smooth, geared adjustments for panning. Whereas I think the click pan version uses a knurled ring one would twist for panning in specific click-stops. But again, that is simply my assumption as I have only used the geared and non-geared versions. 😉

John, I couldn't quite see, from the video, where the center of rotation of the two axes with the "radius" that gives axis of rotation at a point "remote" from the rotating part ... it can allow you to put a lenses perspective center at the center of the mount's rotation, so that you can get, for instance, warp-free panoramic images...but, I think that the rotation center would require you to mount the camera on a rail that puts the lens in the right location... perspective center determination is another subject. ...
@JohnMagnoski Жыл бұрын
Unless your lens has the ability to be mounted directly to the head, then yes yo would need a rail of some sort to get to the nodal point.
@lohikarhu734 Жыл бұрын
John; I gave up on balk heads 30+ years ago: the sudden changes when you tighten an axis, the sudden total "flop" of your 600/4.0, when you try to just "tweak" the position in pitch, oh, or horizontally...the tiny "neck" of the ball head allowing the wind to cause your setup to vibrate around the neck axis... so, back to a manfroto Giant 3-way head, or almost anything other than a ball head. (My Arca Swiss 4 x 5 just couldn't sit still on a ball head!)
@JohnMagnoski Жыл бұрын
👍 Ball heads are nice for some uses, but when you need to be precise, geared heads are the way to go.
@andyvan5692 Жыл бұрын
one reason for this cost, is that this head is designed as a kit item to go with the arca-swiss F line or M line monorails, which can go to 8x10" size (like the sinar system, the back frame can be exchanged for 4x5"\5x7" or 8x10" standard carriers) so the structure is there to support 8x10" lenses at full rail extension and hold it at that angle, and for this tech. you need to pay for it, as the more rigid the system, the stronger materials you need to use, aka steel or titanium rather than aluminium or pvc for parts.

Can you please explain how you use two lenses? when / out is you get using them?
@JohnMagnoski Жыл бұрын
The X100 cameras have a ring around the front of the lens that can be removed, revealing threading for filters or the two Fujifilm lens adapters. You simply screw those on to either widen your field of view or narrow it. They are 28mm and 50mm equivalent. I use them as I would any other lens on a regular camera. If I need a wider field of view, I would use the 28mm. If I need something a bit closer, the 50mm. : )

Honestly, I was torn between the flip-lock and classic. You can't lose either way. Both are secure. If your workflow requires a lot of switching cameras or orientations; or if you tend to go from tripod to hand and back often, I would get the quick-lock. I absolutely love it. Wish I would have sprung for this head years ago. The precision, the ease of getting my compositions just right in camera is such a blessing. Seriously think anyone looking for this type of precision should just go for it. You won't regret it. I did consider the d4. They seem to be the same concept with different designs - with the d4 being what looks like a more "sealed" design over the cube. But opted for the cube because I had always lusted after it and know of many large format landscape photographers that use it reliably in the field. ; )

I mention it in my video, but in short: Precision Head + Tilt/Shift Lens = no need to make lens corrections in post. This not only saves time, but allows you more control over your composition while in the field. This way, when working with a client during a shoot, what they see is what they're going to get. No need to throw away data, or "create" data that isn't there. Hope that helps explain it better. : )
