Hello bro, I also own the Akai MPC 2000, a great machine. I would like to buy a Roland SP 404 MK 2 and connect it. How exactly do I have to connect the whole thing? I mean which cable goes where and on which machine do I have to make the settings.
@Swellthekid4 ай бұрын
You can connect both machines using midi cables. I use the Sp 404 OG. I have never used an MK2. I should make a video about this using the SP 404 and 2000.

The one that I got from mpc stuff is actually zuluscsi. If you make your images for zuluscsi 512mb max you won’t have to deal with partitions you can’t see on the computer. Moving files is even better cause Zuluscsi doesn’t keep you in fat16. And you can see everything from the computer with the zulu

My 2000 still powers, but the floppy drive is toast, so i can't load any sounds or make beats. If i purchase this unit will i be able to sample sounds to make beats? Thanks!
@Swellthekid6 ай бұрын
You will have to reformat the scsi drive in the mpc and add the OS to the scsi so the mpc has a boost file to operate on. Idk how you would be able to reformat the drive without booting up the mpc 2000 with a boot disk first. I would honestly consider getting the floppy drive replaced and then getting the scsi.

This sidechain sounds great, thanks for the tutorial! Why does the kick need to be panned left? Also, I tried doing this with the stereo out of the Nanocompressor to the first two channels of my mixer and then assignable out 2 from the MPC to the third channel. For some reason, I can hear everything on my monitors, but when I record a video with my phone (using USB audio out from mixer directly into phone), I can't hear the kick. The sidechain is still present though. Any idea why this is?
@Swellthekid6 ай бұрын
The kick sits in channel 12 in the mixer which is a stereo track. 1 being a separate channel when panned left and 2 being a separate channel panned right. The kick needs to be separate from the rest of the drums for the sidechain effect to work properly. And about the phone recording issue. Make sure the cable you’re using is a stereo signal going into your phone. If this doesn’t work I’m sorry to say I don’t know the problem. I use OBS to record videos. It’s free and works just fine. I hope this helps. Thank you for your comment George
@georgew.84426 ай бұрын
@@Swellthekid Thanks for the quick response bro! Yeah, that makes sense. I learned that my Soundcraft mixer outputs each channel as a mono L/R pair over USB, so I may have to try that software you suggested. Last question - where did you get the SP-1200 skin? It looks dope!

I've thought of doing this before too. Chopping a sample in a DAW and making an MPC program out of it. But I felt like it was kind of a waste since you can chop samples on an MPC or I could just finish making the beat in the DAW. How would you say this method affects your overall work flow/creativity?
@Swellthekid7 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment Schembri52! The reasoning behind this video was to use Serato Samples new 2.0 update which includes stem separation. Every sample used was extracted from a full composition to make a new one. The work flow does take a little more time but if you’re trying to utilize stem separation and also have that MPC work flow. It’s worth it.
@schembri527 ай бұрын
Oh that's honestly a good idea. Lately it seems like everyone is getting stem separation haha. I definitely enjoyed your video. Sometimes I get in my head about trying different techniques and just end up never doing them and just sticking to chopping samples the regular way on the MPC. Watching this video makes me wanna try stem separation and throw it all in the MPC. @@Swellthekid
@Swellthekid7 ай бұрын
@schembri52 Thank you for your kind words. I know what you mean. Only time will tell when they add stem separation to the new MPC’s. That would be wild!
@schembri527 ай бұрын
@@Swellthekid Bro that would be crazy if they added stem separation to the newer MPC's. It'll most likely be a paid plugin like most of their newer ones. But depending on how well it works I might spend a few pennies on it haha. But keep up the good work! I'm definitely going to try stem separation and see how I like it with my work flow.

Just coming from an outsider asking this question. I've always been a guitar player first and foremost and have only in the last couple years started using a Roland TR-8S and a MC-707, as well as Maschine MK3. I've always kinda liked the MPC 2000XL just cause I like the way it looks. From watching lots of videos about this machine, it seems as though newer machines have far surpassed the capabilities of the 2000XL. Once you honed your sampling and chopping skills on the older machine isn't it easier & faster to just use a more modern piece of equipment? It seems like a lot of extra work to use the older machines. I'm just curious why people continue to use the older machines when the newer machines can save a lot of time. Is it just the way the older machines sound that you like or is it something different?
@Swellthekid7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment Mrku5iz8I! The way the 2000 sounds is why I still continue to use it. It’s also just simplicity of work flow. A lot of my homies have the newer machines and they are dope. It’s really just about what you’re looking for. If you’re wanting to record live instruments then I would recommend a more modern machine for all of the awesome internal FX and processing tools. The old machines are more for the old school fat sound of Hiphop. You can also achieve this sound with the modern machines with a little more work in post processing. All of the older MPC’s have different sounds. Kinda like guitars have different sound. It’s really about what kind of sound you’re trying to achieve.
@ET2carbon7 ай бұрын
The bitdepths are different. The converters are different. The swing and quantization is different. The circuitry like DSP is different. Usually someone who is tapped into production gear, they can tell the sound of a 2000xl. It's distinguishable. There are legacy parameters on the newer mpc gear but that's just for the software stuff not hardware. The filters are different too. The dynamics and timbre are different.
@Charles-tt3dr6 ай бұрын
Because it's not about convenience. I love my MPC 200, because of the sound. I have a friend that still uses the MPC 3000 & that unit is a dinosaur, but the sound is amazing. Imo the 3000 is best sounding MPC of them all.
@Swellthekid6 ай бұрын
This is true. The 3000 was made when akai was still manufactured in Japan. They were made with better parts and Akai was still ran by Roger Linn. The mpc 2000 was the first machine made without Roger Linn and was manufactured in China. That's why these machines tend to have lots of problems.
