I like Holdsworth but cannot get into old jazz sax or trumpet players, Allan goes far beyond that kind of thing.

I love this frikken crowd 😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 what a great show . Immediate laughs of joy hit me on Allan’s first solo, I knew , oh it’s on. When Letters of Marque solo comes its jaw dropping . But it doesn’t stop building. This was a night to remember . Probably the only live version of Home , that sounds just like the Album version with all the background noise it’s great . You know usually , you hear any audience noise and you’re like okay whatever … but these guys are YELLING out requests too . Yeah they’re partying , but they’re there for Allan . Bet Allan loved it so much . As much as he would allow himself ;) God damnit I miss you Allan. Thank you for posting this show

This white line , is the most magical and picturesque version , it’s so frikken beautiful I get so happy and so god damn sad because I miss you Allan ❤️💔💗 , the band isnt just on fire , they’re musically playing this one with such reverence … it’s truly unique . thank you for this !!!! One day the world will discover AH like a JS Bach. Maybe they won’t , i don’t care . Those of us that went along for the ride , will never be the same

R.I.P., Allan Holdsworth - such a great but sadly underappreciated musician... One thing that set him appart from other truly great ligato guitarists like John McLaughlin, is that John McLaughlin, using natural phrasing around breath, came up to breathe now & then... Allan Holdsworth could go for such amazingly long stretches - full tilt - without comming up for air at all - and without a hint of a mistake or bad note along the way... Simply amazing.
@Zaynidin7 күн бұрын
This is not actually true. John is not a legato guitarist whatsoever. He is an example like Benson, of guitarists who have incredible technique and sculpt long, intricate lines, but by picking almost every note. And actually Allan does breathe also. There are punctuated aspects to ends of lines. He breathes! He just doesnt need as much air as other mere mortals, to dive into cosmic kingdoms, such is the rate of the flow in ideas and expression for the sensei..miss you Al… 🚀✨

"Generic and affordable," brilliantly explained and I liked how you adjusted the eq at the end, to demonstrate that the essential tone was there and that musicians need to get their own tone. Allan actually veered away from some of his tones and gear simply because everyone (that had heard him) wanted to clone his sound. But then, that's all credit to his work. By the way, you mentioned increasing gain when you play with the eq - you are right. Levels will increase if you are raising any frequencies, and also levels decrease with any dipping of frequencies.

Wow - if people wanted to hear what the Holdsworth fuss was all about I'd point them to this - totally on fire and the band is equally inspiring. So tight and blasting holes in the clouds. Wish we had a soundboard recording of this show - wow!

Thanks for the upload, but, to be honest, this concert is from 1998 for the reason that Allan is using the Custom Bill DeLap custom guitar with his Yamaha amplifiers and, the previous year, he toured with the first Carvin Fatboy generation and Roland Jazz Chorus and Marshall amplifiers, which they have a completely different sound. Before 1998, he didn’t have this specific guitar sound, both for clean and lead sound.

What a great find. I think this was my favourite period of Allans with Steve Hunt on keys. In my opinion his playing was the best on his Delap guitars as well.

I would say his perfect and outstanding example. I recently talked to a jazz-fusion guitar player. He's really cool and can play very diverse styles. Speaking about Holdsworth he said "It's a different universe no one knows how to approach".

Indeed I first heard of Holdsworth from Eddie Van Halen..just like most of us Americans. Holdsworth was on the cover of Guitar Player Magazine back in 1982..the buzz was about his new album as leader called "I.O.U". I got the record right after I read the interview. I was only 11 or 12 at that time, but the album sunk its teeth in me like i was auditory prey--lol I spent a pretty good amount of time trying to get his sound..not the "red channel" lead sounds, but the volume swell chordal stuff.. My father got me that book "Reaching For The Uncommon Chord"in 85 or 86 where Holdsworth's tunes were all transcribed. I've never played like Holdsworth despite my obsession..but he has been with me in spirit and philosophy ever since. When Holdsworth died, Miles Alumnus Dave Liebman told of a time in the 90's at Montreaux where he and Michael Brecker saw Holdsworth with their own ears..and Allan went right over their heads! LOL I got a kick out of that anecdote. Dave Liebman and Michael Brecker were left speechless as great tenor players?? Wow man.. Holdsworth Lives

I saw Allan play at the Robin 2, here in England, back in 2014 ; Gary Husband was on drums. It was an amazing night, but left me with one huge regret .. I didn't go shake Allans' hand as he stood all alone at the bar. I would have been too 'star struck' to talk to him. Amazing, amazing musician. R.I.P Allan ❤

I got to about half way into Allan's solo on Looking Glass and then starting cracking up and felt like crying ar the same time as my brain was scrambling to find a description for what I was hearing. How can humanity largely ignore an art form this high. Of course now I am crying listening to Allan's swell section. Oh heaven above, I hope Allan and Dave are well cared for up there coz they're sorely missed down here.❤
