People don’t understand also that on a single lane, a high powered car will always be better on the brakes and into the corners. It takes a good rider to keep up with a motor like that. Bravo.

Great riding, excellent pace. You’ve got it down. Just ride that big Beemer and let its torque curve carry you along. But I gotta admit, the music you intro’d with compelled me to respond. It’s a coincidence, but as in your soundtrack I used to play jazz on a Hammond B3 organ in my 20s. It was an incredible natural high. My fave player back then was Brian Auger, with his band Oblivion Express. How cool was Auger? In those heady days of the late-60s when anything went, he would storm around London in a barely street-legal GT40. Later on I renewed my love of sport motorcycling. At around 45 years of age I was cruising down the freeway in my Jaaaag and this Ducati breezes by me in the passing lane. Not showing off or anything. But picking up on that vibe brought back the on-road magic only a motorcycle can bestow. Long story short, I ended up in the Bay Area on a GS1100, hanging with guys my age who knew the best routes to Santa Cruz, starting at Alice’s on Hwy 35 and continuing down Hwy 9. As with your bunch, we maintained an even strain. I don’t know if this resonates, but on a solo ride in the rain on an unfamiliar road. I was heeled over and came upon a railway crossing. As Jack Nicholson would say, it cold-cocked me. I did a low-side at 70 mph but my Aerostich riding suit saved my ass. A few years later at a Beemer gathering at Angel’s Camp CA, I was sitting at a campfire and next to me was the founder of Aerostich. We had a chat and a couple weeks later he sent me a patch in my outfit’s color. I mean, that’s motorcycling. And so it went for a great few years. My riding career crested one day as I was strafing apexes with the same gang on my T509 Speed Triple. At a certain moment it hit me. I was no longer as fast as my bike. And so I bade a sad farewell to sport riding, just as we all must leave behind the things of youth. From this excellent video I can tell you have many miles before you sleep. Ride on!

Solid review. Been great riding with you and bouncing MT09 ideas off you. My Mivv exhaust is straight through and I’ve never had starting issues when hot. Brake pad upgrade to EBC EPFA compound was a game changer. I’m looking into steal braided lines. Potentially upgrading master and calipers. Or I might upgrade to the 2025 sp…….

I actually sold mine a week ago. The seat was killing me and I found the suspension to be too stiff even when set up for me. Glad you like it. I started hunting for a 17-19 Tuono 1100RR as my second bike. My other is my GSXS1000GT.
@Antmanmoto26 күн бұрын
Tuono….well that’s a great second bike!! Just make sure it has not been neglected and had its valve services if it has over 12,000 miles. My seat is the comfort seat so I can feel ride all day. My suspension is actually too soft so I’ve had the opposite experience as you.

I just got done restoring my 2005 Buell XB9SX and want to keep it as clean as I can. I am really wanting to get a second bike and I think the MT09SP is the one. Every time I see one, it reminds me of my Buell and I love the way my Buell rides. Having sat on one (in a dealership), it even has a similar seating position to my Buell. I am also liking the idea of having cruise control! In any case, I appreciate the review and the items you found needed to be addressed. Once I am in a good spot to get a second bike, I hope I can join the MTO9 club.

Yes, I think you will not be sorry. Just do your research as these bikes fo have a couple of quirks about them. But you’re used to that being on the Buell….I call it character.

And thankfully, it doesn’t snow too much. March will be here before you know it!

I've owned Aprilia's now for the last 7 years and can say my ownership experience has been as eventful/uneventful as the Suzuki I owned previously. That said, I did my homework before purchasing and having ridden a demo, I was good dealing with any potential issues knowing how great of a riding experience the Aprilia provided.
@AntmanmotoАй бұрын
That’s great man. I truly believe the people who own, ride and understand Aprilias are special people. We value the riding experience over some conveniences that would push other riders away. And whether you’re on a twin or a V4, these bikes touch something in the riding spirit that no other bike does… and I’m happy to see the amount of people other than myself that get it and understand! Cheers 🍻

I have a 2014 RSV4 I bought in 2017 with 4500 miles on it , put 1000 miles on the street, took it to the track crashed it in the wet and turned it into a track bike. Now 7 years later with an extra 3200 track miles on it, it hasn't missed a beat. I agree that need to do the valve clearances a lot sooner (I've got mine done at about 6500 miles, and will probably again at 10k) the more people I talk to that have them seem to have less issues if you just track ride them (they are meant for that). I have a Suzuki Bking for the road.
@AntmanmotoАй бұрын
Yeah, this is why I purchased my Mt09 SP… I love the Tuono but I feel like it needs to really be ridden hard. So I track it a couple of times a year and take it on my most spirited street rides up in the twisties. But the Mt09 fills in all the rest of the gaps. I just can’t get over how great the Aprilia V4 motor is! Makes you feel like a freaking rockstar!!
@Stclairm1Ай бұрын
That's what one of the pro reviewers said to change on a newer Tuono during a big shootout. He said forget exhaust and everything else. Save for forged wheels. Our wives would agree about how old we act..... Love your content brother from NC!
@AntmanmotoАй бұрын
I will say, though, at the very minimum just getting the Gabro tune with stock exhaust should be done. He makes tunes for all manner of set up. You may have your bike in, but he also makes one for a completely stock bike. It really unlocks the true character and power band…the power delivery is even more pronounced with all the restrictions removed. Makes it easier to ride at low speeds also, A Gabro tune and lightweight wheels and you’re set. But the lightweight wheels if you can only do one mod, I’d still say that’s the one.
@Stclairm1Ай бұрын
@ if I get one (and I’m looking) I’ll definitely do that. The 2017 I found already has an Arrow exhaust. Need to ask if it has a tune. Thanks!!
@CyberGastyАй бұрын
Everything you said is top-notch. I had Tuono V4 2012. I have used it on the road up to 17.000 kms (approx 11.000 miles) then turned it to a track bike and did another 6.000 miles on track, with no issues, just small niggles like you mentioned some of them. Furthermore, I just went down to a 600cc bike on track, advised by my fried who is a racer, to learn a proper technique of track riding, and plan in a year or two to go back to riding Aprilia on track. What you said it is what everyone who thinks of getting one should be aware of, and not expecting something that the bike cannot deliver. It delivers thrills of riding it, and a big smile on your face each time you turn the engine on and hear the best exhaust note in the World. And what a chassis.. it is like on the rails on the apex.
@AntmanmotoАй бұрын
Amen! Bro the chassis on these things is amazing…. it is my go to bike for the twisties!
@matt8530Ай бұрын
Well said! My recommendation for most people is to not have a European bike be your only bike. Have a backup just in case your bike is down for a while. If my Tuono is having problems (it has not yet), I still have a Honda to commute and play on. While European bikes are not the most reliable things out there, they are the most fun! There is no Japanese equivalent to bikes like the Speed Triple 1200 RS, Tuono V4, or Streetfighter V4. Closest thing out there is the MT-10 and it falls way short.
@AntmanmotoАй бұрын
I really love the response from this video. I thought I was gonna get a lot of negativity, but thankfully everyone seems to agree and understand what I was saying. And that is exactly why I will never get rid of mine! The sheer joy I get from the riding experience of a well-maintained tuned Aprilia V4 is indescribably rewarding!
@LiamneedsspeedАй бұрын
Hi, there i am also an Aprilia Rider from Europe and yes Italian bikes need maintenance and care and if the get that they also work perfectly, my aprilia gets more than 30-40 Track days a year and at least 10-14 Races, but proper care makes it work 👌
@AntmanmotoАй бұрын
Did you have to replace anything beyond valve checks with riding them that hard? The race schedule has quite an intricate list of things that need to be checked/replaced if you’re racing it.

@DonkeyDongDougАй бұрын
My Tuareg is the first Italian bike I've owned. After getting a quote for the valve service from the dealer, I decided to try and to it myself and it turned out to not be a huge project. I spent way more time waiting on shims than actually working on the bike. That made me a lot more knowledgeable as an owner, and took a lot of the fear I had about working on the bike away. The Tuaregs fairings are super easy to take off and put back on. There's a few little bullshit things here and there like special tools, but I wound up making my own. I've ran into a few Aprilia riders who gave up on Ducati because they were done with "Ducati bullshit" but they could handle "Aprilia's bullshit". I will probably buy a Ducati at some point just to see what their "bullshit" tastes like. As someone who works on my own stuff. The 660 motor isn't bad. I have a buddy who has a Tuono V4 and I think he's close to the valve service on it. I offered to help him do it if he wants to tackle it himself.
@AntmanmotoАй бұрын
Yeah, if you just stay on top of those valve services on the V4, you’re Golden! I would like to attempt doing it myself as I’ve seen people do them on their own quite regularly. But it does require patience… and I have peace of mind when I know my Aprilia guy has done it

When I bought my rsv4, I setup a fund to be able to replace the engine if it tanks. And I over maintain it, even though my journey has just begun. It REALLY helps that the garage I go to is awesome, and all the aprilia v4 owners in my town take their bikes there. And our main dealer, though far away, is an ex racer enthusiast who gives us great support. I love the aprilia community. These are truly special bikes, strung up to perform at the highest level, and I consider it a slice of good luck to be enjoying one in all it's glory.
@AntmanmotoАй бұрын
Yep, I totally agree. Aprilia owners that really understand the machine understand what it takes to keep it singing. And they are prepared to do what it takes. And they are very meticulous motorcycle owners also. There are no squids on Aprilias

As the former owner of an Aprilia Scarabeo 500, I'll second everything he says. It was my daily rider for a decade+, could break 100 when needed, but could happily cruise at 75 all day in all weather. She finally died at ~90k miles. I loved that scooter, and I miss her often. Also, keep in mind that Italy closes over the Summer and during a LONG Christmas/New Year holiday, so be very patient awaiting parts during that period.

Yeah owning an Aprilia is about having a relationship with the bike. These aren't just appliances that you own just to have a motorcycle. You have to be attentive to it and treat it well, and it will treat you well in return. They're also meant to be ridden hard. I heard somewhere that mechanics have said that the Aprilias, Ducatis and other "premium" brand bikes that have the most issues are the ones whose owners baby them too much. I'm not an expert but I believe the science is that these engines need to be ridden hard to keep the bad stuff from building up in them.
