How was your timeline? (1) how many months in advance you requested gementee for Dutch citizenship application? (2) how many months IND took for decision? (3) how many months it took for kings approval? (4) after king approval, how long it took to receive cermony invitation letter? (5) how many days later you had ceremony? (6) how many days after ceremony you got Dutch passport in hands? I hope you can mention this timeline.. thank you

The part about giving 100% and having it thrown back at you really hit me. Today was a really hard day in and amongst my folks divorce. The parent I’m staying with and helping (dad) had an injury a few weeks ago and they had a meltdown today and directed it all at me. Belittling, insults etc despite the fact I’ve been helping them the best I can for over a year. I stood my ground and I’m proud of myself but it was horrible

Try the Utrecht running club They do various paces and long distances. Really good if you are training for a marathon

I live on Saba and my 5 year period is coming up in May 2025. I can apply for Dutch citizenship from here as well after taking the same tests. However, the one big stumbling block to going ahead with this is that the Netherlands still requires that you renounce your birth citizenship for this privilege. I'm from the US and doing that would cause me a lot of expense having to cash in all of my retirement investments and removing all of my banking and credit cards from the US from which I have decades of good credit built up. I have no credit standing in the Netherlands. Living on Saba doesn't allow us to register in a gemeente so we have no Dutch investment opportunities. I will no longer live in the US but I can't renounce and give up my decades of American financial benefits. How did you get citizenship without renouncing your ZA one? I was waiting for that part at the end.

Hi Jeff, I renounced my SA one as I cannot have duel citizenship. I did not have any investments in SA so for me it was pretty easy and I am also not going back to SA so therefore okay with giving up my SA passport. Can you then not just apply for permanent residency? Then you don’t have to give up anything from the US?

@@christinasdream5398 Yes, that is what we do here and the benefits are almost there same, the main one being health care. In 10 more years I can get citizenship without the tests or renouncing. I'll be 85 then and if I'm still kicking around on this rock, I'll do it then. There is always the slight chance they could drop the renouncing bit before then too. I know you can apply for an exception if you can prove that it would cause you or your family a costly hardship, so I'll inquire about that first.

Gemeentehuis is not really something you can compare with the Municipality but more a combination of Department of Home Affairs Branch and the Municipality and a bit of traffic department.

Big congratulations. The world is now your Oyster. That green SA passport is quite useless however, you can take the South African out of SA but never SA out of the South African. Watched some of your videos, I moved to SA in 2008 and lived in Joburg for 14 years and have become semi-South African but thanks to DHA stuffing up my spousal permit, after 8 years of struggling I moved back to Europe with my family. We settled in Ireland due to our mixed passports, where my wife though born and breed in SA has a UK passport and myself and the kids Dutch.

Thank you!! Yeah I will always be South African and very proud of it. I am Dutch on paper and also very proud of that and will take that very seriously as I speak the language and live here and my kids one day will probably be more Dutch than SA. Happy you could move back to Europe with your family 😀 very happy to have lived in 2 different countries so far. You probably also like that?

Dutch state organisation: Country, Provinces, Municipalities, Towns/Cities. There is also another govermental grouping which is waterschappen. They only control the water- and waste management in specific regions.

No not really. I used to live in smaller places the last 3 years I lived in SA. I do miss a garden sometimes but will hopefully be able to buy a place with a garden soon. But yeah def nice in SA to have all the space.

I'm not sure traveling to the UK is easier from the Netherlands than from where-ever, because the UK isn't part of the EU anymore and there's no freedom of travel anymore.

In 2022 I visited the UK more than 5 times and last year I went there too, you just need your Dutch passport.

She can travel within the EU even without a passport! Visiting the UK for less than 90 you don't need a visa!

Yes but if you have a South African passport you require a visa which is very expensive. With a Dutch passport you can just book a ticket and go. No visa required. So way more convenient and you save money and hassle with not requiring a visa.

Hi Debbie, you do the test at a location. Everything is on a computer and multiple choice questions. Except the writing. That is on actual paper and you write the answers 😀
