FAFSA uses prior-prior tax return information. So, for the 2025-2026 school year, FAFSA will use 2023 tax return information. 2024 income information would be used for the 2026-2027 academic year. Financial aid takes into account household size. Some schools award more aid than others. So even though you may not receive aid at one school, you may at another.

We file tax jointly and we are married. When my wife fills out the FAFSA form, why is FAFSA inviting me also to the FAFSA application. I thought me and my wife need only one FAFSA account. Thank you
@TheScholarshipSystem
@TheScholarshipSystem 4 күн бұрын
Only one parent needs to file FAFSA if they file married filing jointly. Even though it invites you, it is not necessary to fill it out. It might still be a glitch with FAFSA. You could always contact FAFSA help desk for additional clarification or to report the "bug".

@ I found this in fsapartNers.ed.gov MARRIED CONTRIBUTORS WHO FILED JOINTLY WITH THEIR CURRENT SPOUSE ARE BEING REQUIRED TO INVITE A NON-REQUIRED CONTRIBUTOR TO THE FORM (Added November 15, 2024; Workaround) New Status: Open Description: Currently, when a parent, or independent student, is married and filed their taxes jointly with their current spouse, they are being required to invite their spouse to participate in the form even though the spouse is not a required contributor. Workaround: Users will need to add their spouse’s information to continue through the form; however, the spouse will not be required to create a StudentAid.gov account, accept the invitation, or complete the application.

The situation i dealt with was the opposite. I had a spinal injury and yet retained enough good grades to get a 150% based sap appeal after my recovery as a result of not early graduating due to not being able to attend in person classes. They then forced me to priotorize one major even though i could do bith within the year in order to remove the sap appeal

@TheScholarshipSystem
@TheScholarshipSystem 6 күн бұрын
For college interviews, most interviewers don't have access to your application. So it would be good to touch upon important points you want to make sure and communicate. You may or may not have answered them in the application. The interviewer's notes will become part of your file.

Unfortunately, FAFSA no longer takes into account more than one student in college. You will definitely want to appeal for more aid to colleges to explain your situation. This would be done AFTER receiving your financial aid award letter. Check out our other videos on financial aid appeals.

HI Jocelyn I hope you would be fine when you read my comment. Jocelyn I am from Pakistan. I am award winner progressive sales professional. I have a diverse experience of 8+ years in sales which i started right after my bachelors in business administration in 2016 and also joined MBA with the job and completed it in 2017. the medium of instructions and mode of communication has been English in my whole educational period. I am seeking scholarship abroad but everyone tells me that such study gap is not appreciated in scholarship application. so my first question is that is the study gap with job experience justified or not? secondly I serve Oxford University Press as Assistant Manager Sales in Pakistan. OUP is a department of Oxford University UK, would my job experience have any positive weightage in my scholarship application. I am identified as a biker boy, a debater an orator, a singer and also present in the annual conferences of my company. I have also supervised Sports events of my company as a team captain. my career progression also shows promotions and awards. Usually competent consultants arent available, one cannot assess if he/she is eligible for scholarship. I need your kind guidance and support. looking forward to hear from you soon

HS underclassmen can start applying for scholarships. There are scholarship opportunities at all age levels. Many scholarships for underclassmen are paid directly to students so there is flexibility on where the money can be applied.

Your son should still file FAFSA since he qualifies. Parents will still need a FSA ID even if they don't have a Social Security number. Additional explanations can be provided to the schools to see if your son may qualify for additional aid. Most outside scholarships may be applied to tuition and possibly room and board.

Schools receive Pell grant money and apply it to tuition owed. So students will not receive the funds directly. The Pell grant is applied over the academic year, so the funds are not received all at once.

@TheScholarshipSystem
@TheScholarshipSystem 16 күн бұрын
If you filed a joint return for 2023 you'll want to ensure that you indicate that on FAFSA so that you don't import the tax return information. You may need to manually enter in information for your part only.

FAFSA doesn't take into account first generation college students, since it only takes into account assets and income. However, schools or organizations may take it into consideration, but, every institution has their own definition of who is a First Gen student. Check with schools/organizations to find out if your son qualifies.

My son has been trying to refinance but it’s 100,000 dollars a lot of interest. Because the amount he owes he is having a very hard time getting it consolidated. We just have no idea what to do. The cost is more than a mortgage. I think he regrets staying at the school and not transferring to a less expensive school. But we truly need help. He is just starting out so his credit is just starting. Really would like to hear your perspective on this
@TheScholarshipSystem
@TheScholarshipSystem 17 күн бұрын
This is a tough situation. At this point there are needs to be additional cashflow to make principal payments to lower the debt amount and possibly allow him to qualify for a refinance with the higher income. Take a look at the current monthly budget and cut out ALL unnecessary expenses and it may be necessary to get a second job to increase income.
