He didnt transform because it would be stupid to do so. Main characters suffer from "Oh lets wait until the enemy powers up 3 hours later, i wanna see it" syndrome, sure, but in universe its not like he knows that. Frieza is stronger and got absolutely blitzed. What would he achieve by transforming, which takes time and focus, only to end up at best being still inferior to frieza who just got rocked and one tapped? The most realistic scenario would be he begins powering up, and gets blitzed. The time to power up was before he got to earth, now he has to rely on his wits. Unfortunately, his assumptions were wrong, and frieza really did get blitzed by trunks, and not just the sword. And trunks is the only character with enough brain cells to not suffer from vegeta syndrome.

If sololy using manga material from DBZ, this video is entirely incorrect, Freiza specifically states that he made those transformation inorder to suppress his power. Freiza's "Final Form" is actually his own base form.

I like the idea that they can tap into of SSJ power without transforming, like when Base Vegeta gets a yellow aura and starts overwhelming DBS Broly. The more power they use the more SSJ traits they get, like it’s a spectrum.

100% agree Super Saiyan is clearly FAR less than a 50x multiplier as the narrative and basic logic implies like you said. 5x is an enormous difference in strength and speed in a fight. Imagine the difference between getting punched by someone who can bench 200lbs vs 1000lbs. Assuming the rest of their body is proportional in strength. The thing is while Cold's height and horns resemble Frieza's second form, he's also got perfectly smooth skin on his arms and legs, more like Frieza's final form. Cold very well might have no other transformations and the discrepancy in height is just that he is so much older than Frieza, who might even still be a "child", while the horns could just be something he wears as a crown and to look more imposing. Especially with modern secondary media stating Frieza's race can grow their own bio-organic clothing and also Frieza stating he chose the colors of his new augmented form, it would seem entirely plausible that Cold being far more experienced than his son doesn't need to transform to restrict his power, and instead chooses his appearance entirely for esthetic reason. Seriously, the argument that Trunks would have never given him time transform doesn't hold much merit, when we know for a fact that Goku also beat Cold in the original timeline, and Goku has never been the sort be satisfied fighting an opponent at anything except their best.

This is why I turned away from all the classic accepted multipliers, because some of the gaps in power people come to are frankly absurd. I simply refuse to believe that Super, Manga or Anime, accurately portray Super Saiyan God as multiplying base power by tens of thousands while Goku is perfectly happy to fight someone like Jiren or Broly at his base form first, wouldn't that logically get him squashed like a bug? After a certain point not being transformed is simply an unintelligent move and learning to never turn it off, never descend once for the rest of your life would just be safer for you. I completely agree with the assumptions made about Goku on Namek, and I also agree that Super Saiyan isn't just some useless vestigial thing later on, it clearly maintains some form of consistent usefulness and power no matter how strong the Saiyan gets. I wouldn't believe myself that it becomes less effective forever but instead reaches a certain lower limit as it tries to keep up with the intense base power improvements that many of the Saiyans experience throughout the series. Kaioken always threw a wrench into things like this, but I have a rebuttal for people who might get the reaction- "Why doesn't he just always use Kaioken? If it gets stronger than Super Saiyan 2 and 3 what's the point of doing anything else?". It's pretty much confirmed in any canon you find (except super anime, apparently) that the Kaioken only lasts for a very short time, anywhere from seconds to the length of a heartbeat. And people in Dragonball are fighting for minutes or even tens of minutes while transformed. Kaioken's burst of power is intense and might surpass Super Saiyan at a high enough base power, but the effect on the body, the demand for perfect ki control and the risk it poses when used multiple times in a row (especially at high output) make it vastly inferior to lesser power ups that have comparatively zero downsides. Even if the late stage Super Saiyan's initial burst of power was just a percentage chunk addition to base power, or even a small multiplier, something along the lines of tripling base power (which seems reasonable to me as a full power Super Saiyan power output for a good chunk of the series), it would still be vastly superior to even the 10 or 20x Kaioken bursts because Goku would only be able to use those for moments at a time, and after his body is racked with the negative effects of even using Kaioken at all, what if he fails to kill the target? The Ascended Super Saiyan and leveled up variants were simply the better, safer and more energy efficient paths that proved to fix more of their problems even if the output wasn't as extreme as 50 fold, or Popo forbid, millions of multiplications above Base form by the time people start huffing on the Dragonball Super pack.

In my opinion King Cold simply overcame the whole transformation shtick and could control his full power in any form that he took. The second one being the most imposing one of the four that we knew simply fitted him the best as the king of the universe. In Dragon Ball super Broly, Frieza's henchmen simply ask him why he wants to use Dragon Balls to increase his height by 5 centimeters if can just use his second form to look more imposing. This suggests the idea that Frieza also can already use any of his forms and remain at full power. Reducing all transformation into simple cosmetic choices.

It doesn't make sense if Gohan is Super Saiyan 1. Why would Goku or Vegeta be upset with Gohan for being about equal to a Super Perfect Cell level fighter in just his Super Saiyan form? Super Saiyan 2 Kid Gohan wasn't much stronger than Super Perfect Cell. And we know that Gohan was able to transform into Super Saiyan 2 at the World Martial arts tournament. Which makes him almost twice as powerful as he was in the Cell saga if we're going by that logic.
