I've just restarted flying FPV after a 15 year holt. I gave up after I had a fly away of big £5K plane. last saw it heading off over the north sae still had video but no control. It was to much watching it fly out though the googles. It broke it for me at the time. Everything was a lot more expensive 15 years back. I started flying quads with my kids this year and the bug is back. So I'm shopping for my first wing in many years.

Sorry for your loss. I tend to keep my fpv local and low. Odd fact, most of my crashes were with models with flight controls. Apart from quadcopters I have gone basic with no RTH and stabilisation. A good spotter keeps an eye if I have video issues etc. I get the top gun vibe flying low and fast dodging trees and bushes. Whatever floats your boat…. As they say

Are you still there? ok so I don't understand...the vcc for the in part is the vcc in for the battery, thats' what it measures, what's the video in for? You've split your video directly from the camera to the vtx, so you have two inputs going into your vtx? Where does the split occur?
@TWSreviews5 ай бұрын
Hi, you want the VCC to show your true battery voltage. However if you are running fpv and using a 12v regulator or filter to power your FPV then it’s not showing true battery voltage. Old FPV systems didn’t like 4S batteries and wanted 12v not 14v so we would add a power UBEC to give it a smooth clean 12v. Modern FPV systems are now multi voltage and better at filtering.

@@TWSreviews oh great you're still there! Thanks! I have an f550, it takes 3 to 6s right, controlled by the little module...which wires go where so I can tell what the battery is at? I put a direct set of wires from the battery/power distribution into the vcc on the camera in on the osd? I have your exact osd, it doesn't have a separate battery thing it appears like the other modules which I can only find directions on. This one seems to be newer but doesn't have a pinout anywhere I can find. Also I have no camera feed on my monitor...so how do I split the yellow wire?
@TWSreviews5 ай бұрын
@@maddercat The battery voltage you connect to the video in (camera) however the same voltage may not be compatible with the camera and VTX as they may be 5v or 12v so watch out for that. The "Video in" + & - supplies the OSD board. The yellow wire from the camera needs to feed into the OSD in the "camera/video in". The yellow wire from the "video out" goes to the video transmitter VTX. If you have no video then try connecting the yellow wires together to bypass the OSD see if you get video then. The OSD board sits in line with the yellow wire and simply adds data to the video signal. If the video works with direct connection bypassing the OSD then it may be a power issue supplying the OSD. Check the OSD camera and VTX are ok to work on the battery voltage. Over volts may damage them. 3s & 4s would be happy with 12V units but 5s or 6s would damage them.
@maddercat5 ай бұрын
@@TWSreviews Yes my camera and vtx is 5 volts, and I'm running on 4s, so you're saying that won't work I have to have a battery voltage vtx and camera? I'm currently getting an osd feed, so the vtx is working off a 5v power on the back of the osd, video out and the osd is powered from the 5v in of the naza, but there's no video in recognition apparently. The camera is tested as working and I actually swapped it out to another drone and am using it cause I got frustrated with this. If I put battery voltage to the video in, does the entire circuit then become a 4s circuit or what. Maybe the part that processes the video in needs 12v or something? This is so frustrating. I just asked the seller for a pinout and they referred me to a page in chinese that didn't have any info about this, and they're like...there are similar things there, figure it out. LOL
@TWSreviews5 ай бұрын
@@maddercat what you can do is cut/disconnect the camera positive (red) and link the camera and VTX reds only together thus bypassing the OSD. The red wires that are left cut coming out of the OSD, connect the "in" that was supplying the camera connect to the flight battery Positive. The OSD will then be powered by the flight battery and the camera and VTX will be powered from the VTX 5V. I guess the VTX will need a power supply, if 5v you will need a 5V UBEC. As long as the Black and yellow are connected through the OSD it should work. - VTX & Camera positive (RED) supplied via 5V UBEC - OSD positive (RED IN side) supplied via the flight battery positive - Video feed (YELLOW) from Camera to OSD IN - Video feed (YELLOW) from VTX to OSD OUT - VTX, Camera & Battery negative (BLACK) all common connected to flight battery negative

Question about the 900MHz band - how do you select what band the radio uses at the 900M range (between 868MHz and 915MHz that is)? I can use only 868MHz band in my country, so I'd like to know if the 868MHz/915MHz radios are different models, or can the same radio transmit just generally around the 900M band? Or do you just use 868MHz antenna and the radio figures it out by it self? How does it work?
@TWSreviews7 ай бұрын
Hi @Faitter to answer your questions, when you set up a model you need to bind to a receiver to your model configuration. You need to simply select RF frequency that your model will operate with in the model set-up. The menu that you go to to bind a model has a set of options and you need to enable either 2.4 or 900, underneath your selected frequency option you select power and telemetry options you want. The radio has two sets on antennas, a pair for 2.4 and in the handle an antenna for 900. The beauty of this radio is it has a Tandem configuration and when using the FrSky tandem receivers you can make use of both frequencies for added security of signal. However, I believe your question relates to actual frequencies and the radio digitally selects a frequency that is clear of interference. You cannot select to use a frequency in the 800Mhz range I guess your firmware determines frequency compliance for your region. Jon
@TWSreviews7 ай бұрын
Update: I just had a look and you can buy an 868MHz EU antenna and a different 900MHz. If you are in the EU you can purchase all compliant parts from T9HobbySport www.t9hobbysport.com/frsky-tandem-x20-replacement-parts I guess the tuned antenna would favour the 868MHz band ensuring compliance. I purchased a UK compliant radio from T9HobbySport and updating with EU Firmware. My receivers match.
@Faitter7 ай бұрын
@@TWSreviews Okay, thank you. I had a look at the firmware updates from FrSky's page, and they do have firmware with "EU"-tag, so it might be that the EU-labeled firmware keeps the 900M band around 868MHz. Thank you for the reply, I appreciate it. I'll have a look at T9Hobby sports page as well, altho I guess I am more keend to order from Ger or Cz.

If you go to the Git Hub page github.com/FrSkyRC/ETHOS-Feedback-Community/releases The latest release is 1.5.2 and download the ethos suite etc from there. Always best to use the correct versions to match the version you are upgrading to. the instruction for sorting the boot loader is here: www.frsky-rc.com/wp-content/uploads/Downloads/Amanual/Preparing-your-ETHOS-radio-to-use-ETHOS-Suite-to-upgrade-X20-X20S-radios.pdf boot loader downloads here: github.com/FrSkyRC/ETHOS-Feedback-Community/releases/tag/1.2.10 I assume you have worked out that you select Win or Mac versions and the file names that matches your radio e.g.: X20S_BOOTLOADER.zip Once you are on the new versions you will just use the ethos suite and hopefully easier.

I just picked up a X20 Pro and after updating the Tx I tried to bind three XM+ Rx with the new 2.1.8 FW and they won't bind? I then reflashed back t v1.1.x FW on the Rx and it wouldn't bind to the external RF module XJT either. Any ideas? I made sure the internal module was set to access/ACCST D16 and the protocol was access. The binding process still failed even if I tried it in the ACCST D16 protocol as well. The FW was flashed through the Tx and said successful.
@TWSreviews9 ай бұрын
Remember the internal transmitter module has its own firmware that has to match the receiver firmware, the radio has software updates that doesn't affect the firmware and protocols of the TX/RX. With ACCESS you have an extra step to do first, register (pair) them first, (Power up receiver while holding the button) then once registered (paired) you can then bind them by selecting the transmitter bind mode first then simply powering up the XM+ (NO button press) it should see the registered XM+ that has been powered up and asks if you would like to pair model to it. The firmware versions have to match. With ACCST its more traditional bind by holding the button on power up. I would get the updates from the FrSky web site and watch the RX firmware.

I've done a similar thing with my 2 Vampires. Bought them from HK when they first came out around 10yrs ago, found the same intake problem and modified the side inlets, as well as large spring loaded top intakes on one and slots on the other. One has a fixed undercarriage and the other has retracts which have been reversed so they retract the proper way (outwards). Both sets of landing gear struts have been shortened for a scale look as well. If you switch the retract servo round (new mounts) and shorten the struts, you will find that wheels of the correct thickness can be cut into the circle where the std retract mounts, (cutting almost through to the top of the wing ) I have also reinforced the tail booms on both planes,- one with carbon fibre rod inserts, and the other with thin ply inserts, (stops any rollercoastering due to flex) One plane has a 6 blade fan, and the other a 10 blade (the better of the 2) and both fly very well with the mods, using a 4s 3000mah 40c LiPo. The original models had such flexible tail booms, that if you pulled up from a dive, the booms would bend down, creating a big down elevator, so you really had to be brave and give it down elevator to pull up from a fast dive. CGs were advertised in the wrong place, as well as numerous other problems (obviously not a lot of testing was done) Everyone ended up modifying them in one way or another. A video showing the top intakes and performance is here kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIXOanp-frKtaLc if you are interested (10 blade fan model)
