Don't they die out during winter. The ones in pots did ; came back but slow growing.
@BuddhasBotanicals
@BuddhasBotanicals 20 сағат бұрын
They are perennial so they shouldn’t die. Sometimes in containers even perennials die because they can freeze solid like an ice block and kill the roots. In the ground you should be good, in containers it’s 50/50 but much better success if you move the container next to your house for the winter if you can move it.

You need to just move on down to Knoxville, Tennessee!!! lol!!! We need a really good nursery around here. We have 2 decent ones, but then it's just Lowes and Home Depot. You certainly wouldn't have to worry about your plants getting enough humidity!!! This year our temps went from 70's to mid 90's in June...it will stay between mid 80's-mid 90's until mid Sept, then it will be mid 70's to mid 80's until Nov. But the humidity will hover between 70 to 100% and it will feel like someone wrapped a hot, wet blanket around your head, and you'll sweat like a ho in church, lol! If you can get past the humidity, then there's all the extreme politics around here, (almost everyone is either a far right winger or a far left winger....with a smattering of some centrists walking around wondering how in a country of 300,000,000 people, these are the two only choices we have ???), but I tell you, it doesn't matter who lives next to you, you'll have some of the best neighbors you've ever had, politics be damned. You might have a little learning curve understanding the dialect, but we have a book for that, lol!!! If someone says they're aimin to head out to the store to trade, but have to tote a poke or two with them, that means they're planning on going to the grocery store and are taking bags with them because the local Aldi's charges for bags now. Oh, and a cannie is a canna lily...

I have been eyeing the Smokey mountains as a potential landing spot in the future, so beautiful down there. But my biggest struggle is leaving the ocean and all the delicious seafood we have up here. That would be tough for me.

Such a nice tutorial! You’re really clear and pedagogical and explain well 😊 Remember though that you really need to protect your lungs!! Getting the fine cement dust into your lungs is really dangerous, and the damage accumulates over time. You might not feel it at first, but breathing in cement dust damages and kills the cells of the alveoli (the tiny pockets inside your lungs where the blood receives oxygen from the air). It reacts with the wetness of the inside of the lungs, and basically cures inside your lungs. Your body can’t break it down so the tiny cured cement crystals stay inside, and it is so alkaline that it leaves slight chemical burns inside your lungs. The increasing scar tissue made from the chemical burns, and the particles of cured cement building up in the alveoli in the lungs, mean that over time, your lungs will have less and less healthy area inside where the blood can get oxygenated. This leaves you winded and easily exhausted even from very slight activity, since your lungs can’t give enough oxygen to the blood for your muscles and heart to use. At the same time, the body feels the cement “rocks” that have been accumulating over time, so you cough a lot, but they’re too far down in the lungs and you can’t cough them out. You feel the need to cough all the time, and doing so damages the windpipe over time, making the situation worse. Please be careful, you only have one body ❤

Does this keep sunlight from coming through like a shade cloth?
@BuddhasBotanicals
@BuddhasBotanicals 19 күн бұрын
Sunlight still gets through, it does block some but not enough that any plants would be affected. It’s actually too much sun in a greenhouse during summer, everything would cook. It is used on tomato greenhouse production, tropical plants, annuals, fruit, basically anything in a greenhouse.

@@Cryptochinodotsol I would think it’s fine to plant now. After I pop mine out of the mold, I usually cure them for 3 weeks just by leaving them outside in shade, under a tree, under the deck, under benches, and just spray water on them every few days, plus the rain helps. I have even planted them as soon as 2 weeks if I rinse daily. Assuming you used the same ingredients I did.
@BuddhasBotanicals
@BuddhasBotanicals 5 күн бұрын
@@Cryptochinodotsol I don’t use vinegar to cure, I just use water. Vinegar can actually start to eat away at the mixture and erode It. I’d stay away from it and just rinse with your hose.

Love it! I'm doing Buddleia topiaries the same way. It's a constant task to pluck new growth off the "trunk" but quick and easy. I'm working on a small garage greenhouse this year and will try the Lantana too (can't overwinter them in NC)
@BuddhasBotanicals
@BuddhasBotanicals 22 күн бұрын
Oh Buddleia sounds fun! I’m in Massachusetts so I bring them inside for the winter. You can even put them in a basement or garage and they go dormant, don’t really water and they lose all their leaves. But once spring rolls around bring it outside and start watering and it will shoot out all new leaves and looks beautiful in a month or so.

How did they do, growing in the bags? The bags look small. Was there enough room for the roots to spread and the plant to have a good yield?
@BuddhasBotanicals

I found they grew equal to what they would in a similar size pot, but not as large or yield as in the ground. Tomatoes did very well, watermelon and cantaloupe medium yield, peppers did the worst for me.

looks like you planted on landscape fabric....why? wouldn't more access to the ground be optimal
@BuddhasBotanicals
@BuddhasBotanicals 28 күн бұрын
@@TruthInspector I did it for grass and weed control…the grass and weeds would grow up into the bag, possibly choking the plant and stealing the nutrients. I didn’t find that the roots from the vegetables tried to grow out the holes in the bottom. They all stayed in the bag for the most part. If you have nicely tilled land, it might be worth it to make bigger holes and try your way. I was planting on a lawn so was not an option for me.

Why dont you recommend this for fruits or vegetables?
@BuddhasBotanicals
@BuddhasBotanicals Ай бұрын
Fruits and vegetables are prone to disease that can live in soil, roots, rotting fruit or vegetables that fall to the ground. That’s why farmers usually rotate crops so they are never in the same spot consecutive years. Flowers don’t have these issues typically.
