I remember seeing this quartet live at Yoshi's in Oakland...Branford, Watts, Hurst and Kirkland were in rare form!!! OUTSTANDING SHOW!

this C agaist the E7alt, he comes back to a lot as an idea, links the E7alt to the Cmaj7 that comes later, unifies the two contrasts, harmonically and structurally right up there

It’s as if you can hear him break through in this solo, I felt the start sounded a tad tentative, but in the last third or so he just finds a clarity of thought, the ideas become more structural and patterned, he goes beyond himself, incredible

Kenny is insane as usual at these tempos, the ideas transcend stupid theory at this point, it's like recursive composition, compositions within a composition.... Wish there was a full recording of this....

I am mostly of the oppinion that piano can easily get in the way of a great sax solo. I am a pianist btw. However I just really wanted to hear these lines with the chords present. I think in this case it was a disservice to the music. To comp/not comp in this manner.
