Got to see, and more importantly felt, Eric playing with Janes in Jax in August of 2024. Was fucking awesome. His bass and Perkins drums WERE the show. Glad I got to see them again before Perry it blew-up again.

I'm doing that right now and for exactly the reasons you stated or you're implying. Eric seems to be a good source or ambassador for the fans to get a peek at how things have come to where they are now. He comes across as earnest, articulate, and level headed - hardly unusual for a bass player.

Eric was right not to come back in Janes, they are just boiled and without creative attitude. Just for money? Like many other band revivals? Why? Maybe the only right spot was the NIN tour but maybe that was not the right moment also for NIN (Trent was rebuilding the band at those time). Eric is a great musician and i hope is happy, no other thing is important.

I love how Eric points out how Jane's at the start was going *against* the whole shallow Hollywood thing, and wanted to hang on to that. Integrity before money. And also wanting to write new music! I'm completely on his side in this. I hope things will go better this time around now that he's back.

Its interesting that Eric says he doesn't think Stephen and Dave would have agreed to work on a project together without Perry....when they did exactly that with The Panic Channel...that band was 3/4 of Jane's line up...at that time...with Steve Isaacs on vocals and I don't recall Perry sounding off about it...though who knows what went on out of the public eye...Panic Channel were a one and done band...and perhaps it's partially due to Perry having an issue with it. Personally I liked Panic Channel...it wasn't ground breaking but its a good rock record

I'm wondering if Etty helped make Perry a toothless version of himself kind of like some would say Yoko Ono made John Lennon.
@warborn_inc.
@warborn_inc. 2 жыл бұрын
She absolutely did...I say this as someone with some inside connection to the band. A very close friend was heavily involved with them in the late 80s and into the 90s and he told me flat out that Perry was already increasingly becoming a legend in his own mind and once Etty came onto the scene...she played a huge role in influencing Perry's choices. I mean...just look at his career....he has her involved in literally everything. He created that awful Kind Heaven orchestra as a vehicle for the 2 of them to sing etc...and no offense...it is unlistenable....then he had her as a backing singer for Porno For Pyros...and she did not make things sound better....AT ALL...and of course...she always has to be part of the Jane's live show...which to me is completely unnecessary. No offense..but I domt need to see a woman pushing 50 in a G string dancing around behind one of the greatest bands ever. He finds some way to insert her into every single thing he does. I get it..its his wife and he loves her...but he has no objectivity when it comes to his decision making at this point. Etty may be the nicest person on earth...I do not know her...but she is an Ornament that does not belong in any Jane's project....or really any of the other ones Perry has attempted. Have you seen "I like Em Big"? From what I was told...that idea was an idea the two of them came up with and it is one of the stupidest songs I have heard. That was a massive low point for a guy who at one point I considered the greatest frontman of a generation

@@warborn_inc. I agree with everything you wrote. I saw I Like Em Big and it's bizarrely awful. As for Etty, she and any other dancer has ZERO place on a Jane's stage. It cheapens the band and makes it come across like a cheesy, fourth rate production. I don't know how Eric Avery is able to tolerate it now but he is. Also, I've seen pictures of Etty and Perry at their home in magazine stories on them and he's holding a tiny dog. Etty has literally turned him into a weak version of himself and he comes across like a Beverly Hills house wife. It's absolutely ridiculous the power and influence she has over him. I had front row to his Kind Heaven Orchestra when they played in LA and I couldn't stay there, choosing to hang out in an attached cafe instead.

@@warborn_inc. Luckily I saw Jane's on the Ritual tour in small clubs in Germany in the early 90s when it was just the 4 of them onstage. THAT was incredible. Long before Etty changed everything.

Eric is absolutely right. Perry's wife should absolutely NOT be dancing onstage with Jane's. Even Prince was smart enough to have his dancer Mayte STOP being his on stage dancer once they got married. But guess what...it's 2022. Eric is back in Jane's and Etty is still on stage with the band doing her dancing thing with two other females. Oh My F$#@ing God! Wonder how Eric is dealing with it NOW? LOL Here is my 2 cents...GET RID OF ALL DANCERS ON A JANE'S TOUR. EVERY SINGLE ONE...GET OFF THE STAGE! That being said, even if Perry wanted to stop using Etty and the other dancers, I don't think he could because of fear of destroying his relationship with Etty.

I Like Em Big by Perry and Etty. I can understand why Eric doesn't like that. Personally, it's cool that Etty wants to be creative. I just think she should be on her own with other creative types without Perry's help OR involvement. Perry's creativity got unfocused when he veered into non- Jane's territory.

To be honest, I would prefer if Jane's Addiction did their shows WITHOUT Etty and her two stripper dancers with her. I want to see Dave, Stephen, Eric and Perry and THAT IS ALL. The half naked women up there is just an unnecessary distraction that makes the concert cheesy and ridiculous. I prefer Jane's BEFORE they put in all that forced bullshit. And guess what...Eric is back and Dave is sitting out because of Covid and the 3 females are back with Etty in charge now in 2022. WTF?

Now that Eric is back in Jane's, the band should hook back up with Trent, Atticus and Alan Moulder in the studio and make a new album happen. A decade older and hopefully a decade wiser. No fragile egos please. And by all means, NO girlfriends, wives or miniature dogs allowed in the writing, recording or rehearsal sessions.

Love that the KZbin algorithms for these interview clips finally found me in the year 2022. About time! I get what Eric is saying about finding that "vibe" the band had back in the day. But one thing I've always said when discussing Jane's: when they started, they were young and hungry and weird and poor, and living in the shady part of town. You're just not gonna write the same songs now that you've made millions of dollars and nailed Carmen Electra. Not after a ten year gap between albums. It's just not possible.

Kinda weird... although Perry is a nut for certain, immediately responding to the desire of a vocalist to be there with the band with "I'm not asking for permission to work with people" is also kind of nuts in a Joe Pesci - I'm a made man kind of way. You're not asking for permission? Good for you. Now you have no permission. Is that what Dave wanted? Is that what Steve wanted? Then following that up with that's how "I speak to adults" and "setting boundaries" is mildly psychotic. Well, maybe not psychotic, but I would want nothing to do with either of these guys on a business or personal level. This zero sum game approach feels good for a while and anyone can rationalize why they do it on either side, but the fruits of these efforts leave a lot to be desired to say the least./s Anyway, we're all entertained by these stories and we love their records... having some salt is good, but if it's too salty you get thrown out. It's good to strike a balance or at least create a perception of one.
