I hear the difference and imo it's purely preference, and even if you like the more expensive guitar better, I don't hear the difference in price.

Once upon a time, I read about a guy who only bought Strats in the same fretboard and body colour combinations. You'd think that the disproportionate number of instrument cases would give the game away, but apparently not. Oh... THAT is what those "modern" wall-of-sound is for.... They're storage units!!! How have I never thought of that!?

Sounds better, but twice as good? Never. I think It's more a matter of disposable income. Like how a Bugatti is only twice as fast as a shitcar but costs 100 times more. Diminishing returns on value, each new increment is harder to achieve and costs a lot more. With guitars my general rule 1 for 10. Ten percent better means double price. If it sounds twice as good It's going to cost ten times more. Kinda checks out, for example a $2000 Jackson Virtuoso might be close to twice as good as a $200 JS Dinky. Then again it's probably easy to tell by this comparison that I'm a metal grunt so there's hardly anything out there that I would truly consider twice as good as an entry level product. Heck I once bought a $99 guitar at Walmart and... well as weird as it soubds to say something like that: it was fine, it was completely ok.
