While I agree with that, my 2 big gripes with this franchise now is how these factions, when compared to games like Medieval 2, Rome 1, or even Empire have less variety, the factions look more like re-skins of the same 5 factions. Then the unit variety really should be broken down to 3 units that just look the same and behave the same; unlike the older total wars where unit variety mattered. I loved how in Med 2 I could play as Byzantium and battle buddy my Varangian Guards with my cheaper spear units. Flanking charges by heavy pole arm infantry while pinning the opponents Cav was so satisfying. Your units had variety in play and uses. These were things I had to learn. The worst part is this franchise is now the same washed up F###ING MOBILE GAME. The gameplay looks just like that Total War Arena BS. I'll sooner send my $60 to modders that out strip anything CA has cared to produce in the last 13 years, than this scammy company. It's sad when a game like Manor Lords, made by a single developer for most of it and doesn't focus on combat has better battles than any total war since Shogun 2. F### YOU Creative Assembly for ruining Total War.

Shogun II didn't had much variety, but had every unit was unique and had a distinct function.

Used a really bad video full of blatant falsehoods as a springboard for this video. Also don't see how the franchise lasting this long is a "nice thing", like so what if it lasted 20 years when more than half of that is made up of bad releases

@@dishonorable_daimyo1498 Maybe not, I've always thought of "callout culture" as part of drama, and this video is very much a callout. Speaking of framing though, your phrasing and tone throughout the video are quite mocking and self assured, which adds to the perception of it as drama. As for the series lasting 20 years somehow being bad, that's certainly your view of it I see. However think of it this way. If a series has released 20 games over the years and half of them are bad, that means you have 10 great games that you can play basically forever. I think one of the downsides of the content creator worldview is that everything needs to either perfect or terrible with no nuance, because polarizing takes are what bring in views.

Whether you like it or not you are helping CA sell their games, if only their older titles. It's obvious from your videos that you have an idea of a "perfect" TW game in your mind. Judging by your words and your smug attitude in the video, you won't compromise on that idea. It's a strange persecution complex you show - I think the reality is that the series has moved on, and you haven't. It may be that the newer games aren't for you anymore. The series *has* moved on and improved in many ways - units are better at obeying orders and far more responsive, factions have more involved campaign mechanics than Shogun II and earlier, and overall the games are simpler and easier to play. I think the focus has been on making these games into marketing spectacles more than actually great games, with marketing focus more on pretty battles and "inventory checks" as you call them, a term I rather like, which comes to their benefit in many places but detrimental in others. Overall I think you sound much like one of those Star Wars fans whose shtick consists of making videos complaining about Disney ruining the IP, except replace "Star Wars" and "Disney" with "Total War" and "CA", respectively.

Pikmin 2 is challenging on first playthrough, but has the biggest drop off in difficulty on replay out of the first 3 games. The game could have been fine as a dungeon crawler if they didn't include Purple Pikmin. Worst idea to come out of that game.

@@dishonorable_daimyo1498 See... I never cheesed 2 with Purples due to me not knowing that Candypop Buds respawned. I brought them as little as possible to save them. And I genuinely think that was a great first experience. On repeat playthroughs - to me - it still stayed somewhat challenging. I never bought into the "cheese it with purples" strat. Maybe that could be seen as "self imposed challenge" but I honestly doubt many people knew about purple cheesing pre internet. And even with Purples, I still enjoyed it more than 4. Oachi, to me, is worse than purples ever were. Purples couldn't make other Pikmin Types obsolete, they still can't be in water or survive electricity. Oachi can. Oachi can also stun enemies and kill them on his own without dying. Then we have 3. Again, I didn't use any cheese strats in my first playthrough. I enjoyed it. I replayed 3 a few times I really like it. But on repeat it kind of got a bit stale. You can solve most problems with Rock and Wing Pikmin... and they absolutely massacred my blue bois. All in all, it's just my opinion, but I greatly enjoyed 2 more, even on repeat playthroughs. I have a save file of 300+ days from back in the day and I cherish it. I just liked how relaxing it could be as a child. And as an adult I like the challenge it has with actually dangerous hazards. I find it still not too easy, even on repeat. Easier, yea, but not as easy as 3 or 4. The only thing I genuinely loved more in 3 was the multitasking. It was so much better implemented. (My opinion of course. Thank you for giving your take, even if I don't agree it's inzeresting to know what others think!)

i started playing pikmin 2 before i was given access to internet and i queued into the fact that Purple are broken quite quickly. *not* using them to their fullest potential indeed counts as playing suboptimally, they almost completely trivialize the combat. I also forgot to mention the infinitely farm-able sprays that add another layer of imbalance, effectively a cheat button if you can't at all be bothered with the combat.

@@dishonorable_daimyo1498 Alright, good on you then. I didn't. Maybe I'm stupid. You really don't like Pikmin 2, got it. And fair. I am not a big fan of Pikmin 1 myself (though I don't dislike it) Also I am kind of an item hoarder... so I farmed a lot of sprays but almost never used them. It's still a symptom I have in Pikmin 4... and tbh, the sprays are still the "screw combat" button - but with Pikmin 2s hard fights it at least had a reason to exist imo. With Pikmin 3 and even more so 4 it feels like the "make it even easier" button. In 4 I started using it to flower my Pikmin only to make combat a little harder. So in the end, Pikmin 2 will probably always stay peak Pikmin to me.

But since you have 1000 hours in Rome 2 that tells me enough.

@@dishonorable_daimyo1498 I'm I not worthy of liking total war games because of rome 2 ? I got hundreds of hours in rome 1 and med 2 pre steam. I miss the old times and still hope for a medieval 3 or med 2 remaster. As I said I wasnt really on the "CA fan train" with troy.

i doubt it will sell well without some supreme marketing gimmick (like the Warhammer IP or the 3K setting with which the game was introduced to Chinese audiences)

Rome 2 sold well initially for a couple of reasons, one being that CA had regained a lot of goodwill with Shogun 2/ FotS, and the second being it was a sequel to well received Rome 1. There was a general feeling that ETW was a "one off bad game" and that we had moved past that. Rome 2's player activity is currently middling, the only people left playing it are in it for the mods and are the only ones left after the massive exodus following that game's launch, and I doubt that they would be able to push that many copies today if they just resold Rome 2 as Rome 3.

@@Mysteryboy0007 This is not that different to what even Warhammer has but oh wow the "leaders" are mortal now who can also be confederated in and then have any generic lord replace them if they die and oh wow families with the heir becoming the leader, something done since 2000 in Shogun 1. Besides, Thrace is just a minor faction that sounds like what you're describing, but isn't that grasping for straws?

You try to zoom out and servey your controlled settlements and armies and everything overlaps and becomes an incomprehensable mess, it sucks so bad.
