Didn’t realize the first time this was 1/43 rd scale. Nice looking kit for that size. Keep up the good work!😎

There were two different Aston Martin DB5's used in Goldfinger. One with the gadgets and one that was just stock. If you watch the film carefully, only the 'gadget' car has the orange reflectors on the side. This (and the dent in the non-gadget car) is the easiest way to distinguish between the two cars. So, for accuracy, this build should have kept the orange stickers. (Points for Revell to know this and include the orange reflectors. Previously, only the Danbury Mint car had these reflectors.)
@BOABModels3 күн бұрын
You're right and I would have included the side markers but I felt the decals didn't look realistic enough. The gadget car was the original DB5 prototype, based on a DB4, and was previously red.

Looks extremely badic for a Heller kit, most of thd ones ive built have been fantastic. The 1/16 Citroen DS are great, the 1/24 Mehari was also fantastic. So believe me, most are far better detailed than this 205. Check the parts count before buying...
@BOABModels3 күн бұрын
I agree - the Heller 1/24 Alpine A110 was a great kit, despite being very old. I also like their 1/43 stuff.
@CycolacFan3 күн бұрын
@@BOABModels they did some very odd choices of cars sometimes too, even from me as a European who recognises Renault 20s and Rover SD1s. Or the 1/24 Scania 141 truck, lightweight E-type and Hispano Suiza no one else ever kitted. Would hate anyone to base an opinion on Heller just from this one fairly poor kit. Certainly look forward to seeing what you do with it.

How good are the UMP products?

Pretty good - I use their sanding sticks and the decal softener. Really useful when the decals are going on an awkward part. Just be careful after applying it as the decals go very soft.

Oh dear, oh dear... I have build this kit when it was released, but I don't actually remember the build, despite I drew a few decals myself to make it Timo Salonen's car from the 1985 RAC rally. I haven't seen the finished car in a while, as I did it for my uncle, but I never felt satisfied with the way it turned out.

You are a very brave man Thomas to build a heller kit. But i will follow the build as usual. But there are very few part in that kit. So heller cannot mix up to much in quality you may think. But it is french,Se la vie monsieur Thomas.

Nope no way i would waste my time on that kit but if i got one for free and as you mentioned in the video to add lots of scratch building , then yes great idea and project. Shocking kit and like italeri , how do companies get away of producing crap kits like that in 2024.
@BOABModels3 күн бұрын
I'm using this as an exercise in what I can create and what I can add but you're right, I think the next model I will make must be quality!

I’ve built a Heller Ford Focus WRC two decades ago. Awful to see, that their kits haven’t improved a bit. The Focus' one-piece-rims where made of two pieces, which tells you a lot about Heller kits.
@BOABModels8 күн бұрын
In fairness, this kit is even older than that one.

Appreciate the video. It is hard to find these kind of rare rally car model kit, even this kit was sold out quick in hobby link japan. Now i have mixed feeling about this kit, seems underwhelming imo.

I got this one from an online seller in the UK in 2020 - I'm not sure Heller sell much outside of Europe. I wonder if they could mould some new parts to improve it or if it's too much hassle...

The box says 41 parts which is surprising to me. I have never built a Heller kit that I can remember, but they are not easily found here in the USA. (I have always thought that was because of a distribution issue - not the quality of their kits) Still I'm interested in how you will upgrade it so I will be following this build closely 🙂
@BOABModels3 күн бұрын
I imagine it is a distribution thing as there are some US kit brands like AMT which I never see in Europe. Heller have made some good kits but it's a shame they damage their reputation with ones like this.
I wouldn't let this be an example for all the Heller kits on the market, but they themselves should realise kits like these are hurting their reputation.

I've often wondered if one could use the Heller kit parts to modify the Tamiya kit, to built the evo version . . . apparently not.
@BOABModels3 күн бұрын
From what I have heard, the only Evo 2 part is the rear wing and even that's not very good.
@Sarah-JaneR329 күн бұрын
I built the Tamiya one when it was released, thought it strange they didn’t do the evolution version of it though, or even the Dakar one, the 205 Dakar had the 405 bodywork on it for later Dakar rallies, Dakar cars were basically lengthened to accommodate a larger fuel tank. I have the Heller kit somewhere in the stash, looking forward to seeing your scratch building on this one, model on
@BOABModels3 күн бұрын
Thanks Sarah Jane. I'm surprised Tamiya have never touched the 205 kit in the past 30+ years - maybe a rights issue? Heller however have sold this and a 1/43 scale Dakar version.

2 things to note - firstly, I forgot to mention there are no seat belt decals in this kit, which is a shame. However, the decals are terrible - I have started making it and they fall apart. So if you intend to make it and don't like jigsaw puzzles, get some replacement decals.
