Bought my house 20 years ago. My retaining wall is ok, but I’m considering rebuilding it. It’s only 2 feet tall, and sagging slightly. I’ll probably ignore it, but enjoying your videos!

I built a wall with ZERO experience and just following youtube videos, mine was 4 blocks high + capping stone. I made a few mistakes (base gravel was not deep enough, did not use enough drainage fill), it's far from perfect. But it's been over 6 months, been through torrential rain a few times and it's been completely fine. The whole process seems to have been pretty forgiving - the next one I do will certainly be a lot better!

Wrong. Over time these joints will open up due to contraction. Coping takes care of that and you cut the piece long and SNAP into place.

Professional here. Biggest tip I can give for leveling a flagstone patio is string, set two corners stone of your patio at the exact grade you want them to be. Lay the string across and you’ll be able to have a guide for the rest of your patio. Closer your cuts ( within reason and for enough room for poly sand) and the more level, the more professional it will look.

I have mosaic shower tiles with a million small grout lines. Should I just use the spray bottle sealer and then wipe everything down a couple times? BTW great tutorial...

This is wayyyyyy easier said than done, customers dont grow on trees and trying to advertise your services is wayyyyyyy wayyyyy wayyyyyy harder than you are making it out to be. Also being a handyman without a professional license is sort of like being an NBA basketball player who is 5' 4" and cant shoot free throws

Bad advice. If you're drilling any kind of masonry, use a hammer drill or rotary hammer. And cool them with water. Using a regular drill puts a lot of excessive wear & tear on the drill, plus is likely to burn up the drill bit- meaning the tungsten carbide tip breaks off in the hole. Now you've got a much bigger problem than simply replacing that bit - good luck drilling through that chunk of tungsten carbide! Most likely, you won't be able to use that hole at all.

dont use these sticks, use screws, you can adjust them and you wont have gaps like you do in a few of your examples. Its faster and cleaner looking.

Retaining walls less than four feet rarely fail that is why most jurisdictions do not require a permit or engineering evaluation. With shorter walls you can get away with a lot you can’t get away with in higher walls.

This is a great how-to video. I have similar tiles & sink in my kitchen and had considered several times in last 8yrs to upgrade. I knew that I had to cut the tiles to take the old sink out but wasn't sure how or "brave" enough. This video gives me confidence and I'll be doing it soon. Thank you, Dan.

Couldn’t you just use a foam roller to get a nice even spread and prevent stippling? I’m kinda new to construction but I’ve used foam rollers or those foam brushes for painting.

I have a question I was wondering if anyone could explain. If inside corners are slightly obtuse for example 92 degrees, why would you the inside miter cuts but slightly under 45 degrees? Wouldn't you want to cut them at 46 degrees to equal 92? In the video he explains that you would want to cut slightly under 45 degrees for the inside angles. I know he is correct but the math ain't mathing to me!

Question: The retainer wall is already there. We are on a steep hill. But behind the wall is a ditch with some wild trees that we'd like to fill. It was suggested that we just add dirt to fill, but we're worried about just adding this extra pressure to all. Should we pack with gravel for drainage and then dirt to replant trees?

Some great ideas. But to add to them: Instead of using a sharpie and trying to mark the center, use a pipe. Your drain is likely a 1.5" waste line, and most tubs I'm looking at have holes for the drain at about 2 to 2.125" diameter. The outer diameter of a 1.5" sched. 40 PVC pipe is 1.9", and you'd likely be able to place that dead center in the hole. Alternatively, a 2" tube or possibly even your tub drain itself might be long enough - but take any of the pipe/tube/drain that you want, ink the end well, and then use it as a stamp to transfer the ink to the board underneath the drain hole. Then you have no worries about tilting the pen. If you see the result around 10'30", the mark he made is somewhat erratic. Stamping it this way would be far more precise. You could also fairly easily build a jig that would not just help set the height like he uses his board for, but also guarantee things are centered - set a board with the appropriate notch cut out of it to match the shoe profile using that marked circle (can even reuse the pipe/tube again), and you'll get it nearly perfectly centered and set for height. just make sure the ends of the pipe are cut perfectly perpendicular to the pipe....

Hi from Canada. Bathroom plumbing is not complicated the plumbers who did mine didn't do a good job joined pipes under the sink without anything holding the connection. Who does that? I rather do it myself. The plumber who installed my bathtub should have put some insulation between the bathtub and the outside wall because I get frozen water on that side when its really cold. The only thing you need is common sense and a handy aptitude.

But the tub he took out didn’t need leveling or was already level so why need leveling. We need to replace our tub but I really don’t want to use mortar under it. I know it’s not there now
