A brushless motor will last longer but it does have to spin up. I bought it and I don't mind the delay at all.

Your room is too big for the unit. The 1200 is rated at 550sqft. I installed mine in a 500sqft and it works really well and cools down fast.

Selling mine. If you have HUMIDITY, just DON'T Bad: 1) Stupid hose placement. Didn't want to drill thru my house so I used a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket I had to empty 6-7 times a day. (Clear hose it comes with gets loose & will flood your floor. Check it OFTEN.) 2) Bulky. Actually... it's massive and ugly as all get out. 3) So many cracks for outside air & the sticky tape is also ugly. 4) Wasn't all that great on my electric bill. Good: 1) The 10,000 BTU cooled my entire 630 sq. ft cabin. 2) Easy to install. I just bought the Midea 12,000 btu inverter U-shaped window unit. Quieter, inverter, space saver, no bucket. WIN! Never again on portable.

When doing the noise test, the duct should have been connected as specified. Quite a bit of measured noise is caused by airflow through the duct.

I have the 8000 but and it's amazingly quiet. There's times I don't even know if it's running or not because my air purifier on medium is louder than the air conditioner running on medium... I think for your test you should measure at six or eight feet because that's probably the distance the average person is from the air conditioner in a normal home, that's most people might put it at the window to the foot of their bed or to the far side of their bed. Bought mine at Costco for 239.00 and because I had the Costco credit card I get the free extended warranty for a couple years.

I have a few issues with these portable A/C units. One of the major issues with them is.... When you set the desired temperature, say 71*F, and the room reaches that temperature, the compressor stops. This is great, except, they dump a whole lot of humidity (10-20%) into the room before the compressor kicks back on. So far, all the units I have purchased in the past, have done this. Does this Midea do this? (I'm asking if either the 12000 or 14000 BTU units do this) please test if possible) What they should do, is reverse the air out the exhaust, when the compressor has turned off. I'm not sure if window units do this (increase the humidity after the compressor has stopped)!

I have never used any kind of mower in my entire life and I have no idea how to start this thing. There are no explicit instructions on how to start it for first time users. Why do they assume everyone who buys a lawn mower has already used a mower??? Growing up we never had a lawn mower and I have always rented and never needed one. So how the hell do you start the damn thing??? SPECIFICALLY.

Emporia is just a start up with 30 bros that do a very mediocre business. They treat employees like sh1t, discriminate immigrants and women. I worked there for more than a year, was treated like sh1t, they laid me off for no reason and my goal now is to destroy their reputation. Why? Because this is what bros' deserve. Sh1t people making sh1t business. Buy another brand. Emporia is POOR QUALITY.

Two things......PLEASE make a more in depth framed window attachment. #2, unfortunately I suck at things so simple to most but does anyone know a good handyperson in the Los Angeles area who can build a framed window attachment and/or hire to properly install my Midea? I had it installed but it was a weak/flimsy install with many gaps and difficult to easily take down and put back up. Its now down

I am NOT a fan of this tester. It's lack of user programmable defaults i.e. permanently begins with AC, 5 min auto shutoff, constant "beeping" (also shown in the video) makes this tester annoying to use. Stay with the Fluke - it's a MUCH better unit.

I have a 14,000 BTU version and it cools the entire 2nd and 3rd floor lofts of my house. Works very well but it recently started leaking and I can't tell what the issue is, the drains all appear unobstructed. I even stuck something in there and there is no debris clogging them. I only ever use cooling mode but it leaks tons of water. I finally got a tub to set it in, but I'm afraid of electrical problems if it's sitting in an inch of water. Edit - Finally found out that it's the "Dry Mode" drain that has been leaking. Which makes no sense since I only use cooling mode and cooling mode is supposed to drain out of the bottom drain. I don't really understand the problem but now I have it draining into a bucket and the unit still cools very well which is what really matters. Very annoying problem though.
