Thank you for the video. I’m working at a startup, so we still need to cover a wide range of responsibilities at the moment. It’s great to see the video now, as it gives me a lightbulb moment about what could be my strengths and where and how I could position myself in the market.

How do i create a PDF portfolio
@rantalksdesign2 күн бұрын
I assume you can use any design tools you like and export into a pdf. Figma is efficient. If you want to go the old school route, indesign is always an option. You can even use keynote.

creative thinking, international work experience, breadth of UX skills

Those all sound great! I particularly like the "international work experience" part. I have not worked at other countries so that's super interesting to me and I'd love to learn more about that experience! Creative thinking and breadth of UX skills are more common amongst UXers.

"You don't need a flashy website" Shows flashy websites as an example
@rantalksdesign8 күн бұрын
Yes you are absolutely right. But pdfs and other portfolios are mostly kept private and it's not appropriate to show them to the public. I don't think the last two websites are flashy though.
@donnorman65268 күн бұрын
@ They are not flashy but they still took time to do, I think the overall issue with design portfolios like you said is the time consuming that it is for us designers. Building a website yes it’s nice but long term to keep it updated and building it takes ages. I’ve gave up on this strategy and like you said a pdf or online presentation that applies what you said it’s the most important.
@rantalksdesign8 күн бұрын
True! That's why I mentioned fancy websites aren't necessary, it really is super time consuming (and also cost money to host and maintain). I don't have one either. I wonder how does the pdf version working out for you?

As a UX designer, are there any reliable courses I can take to become a growth designer? Or any other good resources?

Yes. I helped created this course with my friends in the growth community. I am no longer involved with teaching, but I still recommend it. www.growthdesigners.co/school They have scholarship available too you can apply.

I LOVED this interview! Kyle seems like such a down to earth guy and also someone that I can learn a lot from. His clear-mindedness is evident in the way he approaches work. Definitely an inspiration! Also I could not resonate more with the opinion on ICS. I like my IC work, I want to grow into my contributions into a legendary status and make good money while at it (which is possible). And omg, like Kyle I've been producing low-stake designs and share them on LinkedIn, X, and Threads. I've been doing it for over a year+ and with 0 traction, but I love it. Like Kyle it scratches my own itches and it gets my creative juices flowing. (But unlike Kyle, I do imagine monetizing these ideas).

Hello Ran. I watched your video about designing with data from 4 years ago. Can you create a video about how the use of ux analytics has evolved, how it supports your work, and what are the challenges designers/researchers still face utilizing/sourcing data (if any)? Thank you!

Hi Ran, I appreciate you making this video. As a UX designer with over 9 years of experience, I'm still very confused by this new terminology. I've worked heavily in the IT consulting space and my role has always consisted of the three responsibilities you defined for a Growth Designer. I'm curious to know what is the difference between a Growth Designer and a Product/UX Designer that has experience in all the same areas? I've had job applications rejected simply because I label myself as a UX Designer, despite meeting all the qualifications and having projects and experience to show for it. I'm curious as to why the design industry puts so much weight on name titles instead of seniority level like other industries (i.e. Junior, Mid-level, Senior Designer vs UX, Product, Growth Designer). Any insight you can share would be greatly appreciated. TIA!
@rantalksdesign Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. Were you mostly applying for growth designer roles? Or were you applying for product designer roles? It's interesting you conclusion is that they rejected your application based on the UX title, I have to say it seems rare. What I suspect could be they are looking for specific types of projects and not a match with the type of projects you have in your portfolio. But I can't really tell you anything without the details. Happy to discuss more.
@saharsarabandi92144 ай бұрын
@@rantalksdesign Can you elaborate on the actual question? All these 3 areas are also part of a UX designer job. How do you differentiate them from Growth designers?
@rantalksdesign4 ай бұрын
@@saharsarabandi9214 Growth designer is essentially product designers with a focus of driving business outcome. You work on slightly different problems (like a business metric vs. a product area), using a lot of experimentation and quantitative evaluations. The actual design job is the same, you just have slightly different goal, and methodologies. And the types of project you work on might be different, like a growth designer may work on sign up and checkout flows and optimizations vs. product designers usually work on features and feature improvement. I honestly don't think they are that different.

One of the things I like the most about the design community is that everyone is humble, genuine, and nice. Perhaps is a trait of the trade since we are always reminded that 1)we are not the center of the universe 2)our assumptions are often wrong 3)theres always a trade off
