Thanks for sharing, Fred Pickers videos and workshops were long before the advent of today’s convenient videos online. Most people could only find these individuals and their products in the classified and advertising section of trade magazines. He seems to share a wealth of information that can help with composition, exposure and printing.

I attended the Zone VI workshop in 1984. It was a great experience learning from Fred and his staff. I learned a lot. Even in this digital age, I fall back on some of those timeless principles.

At 18:50, is that a b&w viewer that Fred Picker is using? I read about this in Ansel Adam's book "The Camera", but I have not been able to find one.

Yes it is😮 a b&w viewer, really just a brown filter, I don’t remember the😅 number. I😮 have one of his for 35mm format or😅 shape. I’ll try to😮 find the number. 😊

Been playing golf for over 30 years. I have asked every golf instructor I've ever been to "how should the golf swing feel?!" Not once did I get a satisfactory answer. Instead, all that was focused on was mechanics and positions (as 99.999% of them do). This short 25 minute instructional video has answered that question for me finally. Oh how I wish I had this on VHS tape when I was younger. No wonder a lot of you here are saying this is pure gold. It genuinely is. If anyone you know is interested in taking up golf, for the love of God don't let them go to a pro in the first instance. Get them to watch this video several times from 4mins 30secs on. They will thank you for it in the end. I have now watched all the Jim Flick videos I could find on KZbin and I have came up with this little mantra that for me sums up what he was trying to get across. Hopefully this might help some of you... "SEND the ball to the target on an arc in a swinging motion with the proper release." That's it. Simple right? :) Happy golfing everyone. x

i find if i kinda follow this and swing more with my hands, wrists and arms and the body follows and picks up on the action i can play in the low to mid 80's with an occasional high 70's game.

Awesome video I always go back to it. What I feel the key to Jim’s teaching is the club is the engine. So much of today’s teaching is using the body to position the club. Jim proves that all nonsense the weight and swinging of the golf club naturally positions the body to support the swinging of the club. That’s where rhythm and tempo are found those essential keys are hard to find in today’s teaching. Jim’s example and demonstration of the higher level players swing and the lesser players swing is priceless and so true you see it up and down the range. Unfortunately I’m leaning towards the latter but I’m gonna get it back thanks to this video Thanks Jimmy and Bob.

KZbin golf has made the turn, specifically on the downswing, the focus of everything in the golf swing. I can not tell you how bad and how long that messed my swing up. I recently found this gem and focused on hands and arms and I literally went and shot the best round of golf I have ever played. It's asinine how bad KZbin golf instruction is and also the fact that most of thes KZbin golf coaches are giving live lessons to people who are already great golfers!!! DO NOT WATCH ANY OTHER GOLF INSTRUCTION VIDEO!!!!!

As a senior golfer this video is so valuable. I'll try these fundamentals out in my practice sessions. By the way to my admittedly untrained eye it looks to me like Jon Rahm is a width player.
@jamesking1425 ай бұрын
I've found this to be true. It is better to let the left side dominate early in the swing and engage the right side's power closer to the moment of impact. Initiating the swing with the left shoulder gets the upper body turning around the spine. Taking the clubhead straight back the aim line also promotes an in-to-out swing (a slight clockwise loop). Vice versa, the clubhead starting out moving inward around the body will want to come back down over the top (a counterclockwise loop).

Simply put, Mike Adams is a golf swing genius. I never thought it made sense to try to teach every person the same swing. Since determining that I was a "width" player, it has unlocked the vault to a lot of missing pieces in my swing. My ball striking has improved, and seems so much more effortless, allowing me to enjoy the game so much more. Also, I never had any idea that flaring your feet a certain way could have such a huge impact on squaring the club.

Weird cause I'm an ectomorph or whatever I'm only 5'9 so I was watching the leverage video thinking that was me. I kept hitting chunk toes. This video has been great for me as now I'm compressing right thru the golf ball now and not wasting any of my club speed . This guy has been the greatest coach I ever watched

Zone VI Workshop took the 'mystery' out of the zone system for so many of us. Got my first copy in 1980, and ended up having to replace that, and at least a half dozen more that never returned after being loaned out. 🙂

Such a different concept than what you see taught so much today, with the emphasis on creating lag and compressing the ball, and having a forward shaft lean at impact. It seems a much more natural and fluid way to swing a golf club. Prettier, too.

This is fantastic. I’d picked up a copy of his book at our local dump which has an exchange. Thanks for posting. BTW looking on your channel saw a Fred Picker video. 28 yrs ago I went to a week long workshop in VT run by Fred which was great. Used to have a darkroom with a Beseler 23c and Zone VI cold light, compensating developing timer, now sadly gathering dust. He sold great B and W paper as well.

Interesting that every time he wants to illustrate a good swing he uses a man. And every time he wants to illustrate a fault, he uses a woman. Very sexist.

Starting the swing with hip motion has been valuable for me creating a bigger turn, and Redman’s(sp) book has some valuable information for the amateur, though it is different than a lot of modern instructors. The info in this video adds to Redman’s book especially fading and drawing the ball, setting up with the driver, and a little more on pitching distance. One thing I have found is this swing is much easier for my damaged back. Thanks for posting and archiving this information. If you are struggling amateur try a slightly stronger grip and a hip initiated backswing.
