Beautifully clear! This journey has just about turned me off to Kontakt completely. Happily, your video exists! Looks like Logic Pro has prepared itself for this eventuality better than most; and second, your clean approach was--at last--refreshing, making the process understandable and WAY less nerve-wracking. Thanks so much! NI can take a lesson from you.

Not sure if you'll be able to give some guidance I've encounter recently. I've been working on a Live Loops session with the Track View window open side by side. So within the Track View window the cycle range is active (yellow bar) but below on the ruler section (where the play head resides) there appears to be a transparent cycle range that I can't seem to get rid of. Every time I attempt to double click on it to try and remove it, Logic Pro crashes every single time.

This was a great video. Very thorough and easy to follow. It wasn't rushed and all over the place. It felt like a great step-by-step guide that visibly can be retained the next time I load up LP.

This was so precise and clear. Thank you so much. I have Kontakt and Maschine, and I've been having a hard time getting this to work between the DAW setting and the multi output settings within the VST/AU instruments to correspond within the DAW. I'm going to try this step-by-step guide and hope I'm successful in finally getting this to work.

Definitely a "quick, cheap, and dirty" way to get a workable sound. Can you briefly outline what mixing you did to each of the mic channels?
@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 6 күн бұрын
That’s exactly the goal of the video haha. For mixing, overheads got EQ and compression from waves SSL channel, gentle moves here because it’s a full picture of the drums. Kick was SSL channel, cut lots of mids (around 700hz) plus gentle tweaking here and there. The main source of low end for the kick was waves RBass, but boosting the lows on the EQ will work too. All channels went to a drum bus so receive gentle compression, parallel compression, and a bit of room reverb.

Damn thats impressive! The only thing I dont like is the unprocessed kick sound, but that was totally fixed in the post, may I ask you what did you do to that kick? And the other drums and cymbals sound really good with this technique, definitely gonna give it a try
@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 6 күн бұрын
Mostly my standard EQ and compression (you can find that all over my channel), I think I used waves SSL channel for this one. then I used Waves RBass to add LOTS of low end around 45hz. The 57 doesn’t have a ton of lows so you really need to add some to get it to feel right.

Just watched a video of the S61 saying they build quality is complete trash. Now I'm not sure what to think. Can the build quality differ that much between to two models? Thinking about buying a used one. Thanks for the review.
@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 7 күн бұрын
Haha, good question. I’ve not tried the 61, however the 61 is semi weighted, sort of a synth action, and the 88 is weighted, more like a piano action. So probably a difference in feel for the keys

For live I’d probably move the overhead that’s near the floor Tom over to a snare close mic, so I could have kick, snare and overhead to mix with so I had a bit more control of the important elements

The only person on KZbin I have seen get the chords, voicing, and tone perfect without adding a whole bunch of useless garbage. You definitely know what it's like to play in a band. Everyone plays basic, boring parts over and over again, but together, everything locks in and sets the groove. Too many people try to overcomplicate it. I saw another tutorial where the guy used maj7 chords when they are clearly minor chords. 😑 You have a great ear for music, sir. Well done.

While the SSL 12 does have 32-bit ADAC conversion, the bigger, more expensive SSL SiX and BiG SiX Mixers only use 24-bit ADACs and they cost $1300 and $2700. So, how important is the 32-bit ADAC vs 24-bit ADAC? It’s nice to have, but not reason enough to jump from either SSL 2 up to the 12. You need more reasons than just the ADAC to spend 2.5 to 3.3 times more money, IMO.
@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 9 күн бұрын
Yeah, I bought it for the preamps & ADAT. I have enough stuff in my studio that I’m pushing like 10 inputs so it’s nice to have everything plugged in. (Using a focusrite for ADAT inputs)
@johne1599
@johne1599 10 күн бұрын
I bet a lot of people buy the 2+, when all they need is the SSL 2 for $50 less than the 2+. Most of us are using USB MIDI these days and don’t need the 5-pin MIDI jacks. ONLY if you have external MIDI gear which only connects via the 5-pin MIDI cables, do you need the 2+. If you need 4-inputs or more, then the SSL 12 is for you, with its ADAT expandability to add more and more preamps and inputs.

Ah, I don’t think I’m the guy for that. I’ve used Final Cut but it’s been like 6 years. I currently use Davinci Resolve for editing my videos. I usually export my audio for Logic, drop it in the video editor, and then line it up visually with a big spike in the audio.

@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 11 күн бұрын
Thanks! The best way would probably be running 1&2 into your sub, and then out to your mains, most subs have the connections for this and could also have some crossover functionality as well, that would be cleanest. If not, then you should be able to click "follow mix 1-2" on the output section of Line 3&4 so that outputs 1-4 are all receiving DAW playback 1-2, then run your cables. Like I said, the first method is way cleaner, but the second option could work. Tread lightly and raise your volumes slowly :)

Hi, iv been looking to try the wa47 on Kick out, probably about 6 inch far from the kick, but iv heard that it distorts the signal eaven if you have a pad on the Preamp, was wondering if you had ever try this technique with the 47, i wanna buy it for vocals and for kick, thats what iv been doing with a wa47j and it works great for me, but now i want to upgrade. im a bit scared that if i change to the 47 tube mic i wont get a good result from a kick drum. Note that when i put my 47j on the kick i have to put the -10 db pad so it wont distort the signal, eaven with my external wa73 preamp on low gain, i still have to put the 47j on -10. Thanks!
@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 19 күн бұрын
Hello! Thats a great question. I have used it on Kick Out in that configuration, it sounds awesome for what its worth. The thing to look out for with this mic is that it's possible to clip the diaphragm, basically it will clip the mechanism inside the mic before it even gets to your preamp, regardless of using a pad or not. So it will be fine for more laid back genres where the drummer isn't slamming the kick, but I wouldn't grab it for a metal record haha. Which you could argue the WA47, 6 inches away won't get you the kick sound you'd need for those louder styles anyway. I've also used the WA47 for an overhead and a mono room, so it could be worth getting a dynamic kick mic and using the WA47 elsewhere on the kit. Lots of factors, but hopefully this sheds some light on it!

Hello I just bought a SSL 12, but I'm struggling with something here. When I setup my windows system sound as SSL Monitors, I only can listen them through my HP A out if I set the HP A mix to Follow Mix 1-2. But I teach guitar online and I need to hear the system sound like youtube or anything through my speakers but I want to only listen my Microphone monitoring in my HP A mix. How can I do that???
