this is an amazing tutorial and really helped me finalize purchasing this. the fact you can mono out the headphone jacks is amazing and will be amazing for a 4 piece iem mixer as well as output for backtracks live and the asignable buttons and callback of different setups is awesome cause i do content creating, recording, live sound, and mixing and mastering so this is really cool. really appreciate the video and you definately got my sub plus being able to add extra inputs saves so much money when you look at buying an extra live mixer and you can just throw this in a rack drawer and connect a octopre for extra ins for drum mics and extra vocal mics for recording and monitoring.

awesome tutorial. I've seen that the ssl2+ can be use as live monitoring / stand alone mixing (with laptop off), just using it for getting power. Seems that ssl12 can be run only with ssl360, have you tried to use it as stand alone / direct monitoring ? once again thanks for your videos.
@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 5 ай бұрын
I’ve not tried that! I don’t think the SSL12 would work too well for that. It’s a lot more complex and lots of the routing and monitoring can only be configured in the software. The SSL2+ literally just has that blend knob which makes it a lot easier for that standalone workflow.

Can you use the loopback feature to run out your daw through analog gear back in to your daw
@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 19 күн бұрын
That’s a good thought, but thinking through it, you need somewhere to plug both the input and output to physically get the signal to the analog gear, and loopback is just an internal thing. It’s good for recording audio from Spotify or something if you’re trying to grab a reference track.

questio n on the adat on the manual it says it can only be a slave interface because I have a 18i20 and the only way I can get hem to synce is if the scarleet is the master and the ssk the slave ?? i have no problem doing that but would I be loosing quality haveing the scarlet be that master clock???
@woodyardmusic

That’s odd, I actually use an 18i20 with the SSL myself. I’ll have to take a look at the setting on both to see what’s happening. I haven’t noticed any loss of quality though, it always sounds pristine

Hi, how can I get a headphone jack output from the interface to play only the music coming from the daw and not the mic, so I can route the hp to a mixer line L and R and use it for direct Monitoring as a separate monitor mix for tracking vocals. Also how do I turn off direct monitoring in the ssl 360 because the volume in the headphone is low when I've tried to use direct monitoring from the interface. Thanks in advance.
@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 2 күн бұрын
You’ll need to turn down the hp send on every channel except for the daw playback. To turn off direct monitoring in the SSL, just turn everything down except for the daw playback 1-2. Then the only thing you will hear is what’s coming from your daw and you can handle all the monitoring in your daw instead

How did you get the Spotify song to playback in your daw? I'm running Pro Tools and I want to add a stereo instrumental song (on my desktop) to a new stereo track in my Pro Tools session to add some rythmn instrumentation.
@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic Ай бұрын
The SSL uses input 7-8 as a “loopback feature”, you just set a stereo ProTools channel to input 7-8 and that should do it

Thank you for your information. I have a question for you. Is there anyway that you can do a video on how to route to your DAW out to any outboard gear and route it back into the DAW? I cannot find any good information to do so. And when I try, it never ever works... I have two compressors that I really want to use to get a much bigger sound. But it never works or when it does, its such a bad feedback... And I still cant get any of the routing to work.

That’s a great question. To clarify, you’re wanting to, say, send your mix out of the SSL, to your outboard gear, and back into your SSL? Like an outboard master bus compressor setup?

@@woodyardmusic Yes, very much. I have the FMR-RNC and a ART Pro VLA II that I really want to take some advantage of. Well at least one of them. I know those two compressors don't give hardly any color. But I got them, so why not try to use them. At some point, I do want to swap the tubes out of the Pro VLA one day. Also, thank you for responding.

@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 6 ай бұрын
Yeah, I haven’t tried it but it should work. There’s plenty of routing options and I think you can even toggle the output between balanaced and unbalanced. I’d still recommend a reamp box or something to make sure you get the level and impedance correct though

@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 4 ай бұрын
@@thehauntedyouth666if I had to guess, it sounds like input monitoring is turned on in Ableton, which is routing it through the “playback” of your interface. you then hear this up against the slightly faster sound of the interface input monitoring which causes that awful latency sound. I’d recommend turning off the input monitoring in Ableton or turning off the input monitoring on the SSL, either way with the goal of having only one input monitoring occurring. That should fix the issue if I’m following correctly
@ereiffman

hello! Excellent video, I use ProTools, I have a pair of Yamaha NS 10s and a passive sublow, can I connect the Yamahas to output 1 and 2 and the passive sublow to 3 and 4? thank you
@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic 2 ай бұрын
Thanks! The best way would probably be running 1&2 into your sub, and then out to your mains, most subs have the connections for this and could also have some crossover functionality as well, that would be cleanest. If not, then you should be able to click "follow mix 1-2" on the output section of Line 3&4 so that outputs 1-4 are all receiving DAW playback 1-2, then run your cables. Like I said, the first method is way cleaner, but the second option could work. Tread lightly and raise your volumes slowly :)

How do I record guitar to where I'm not hearing the raw D.I. signal coming through along with my distortion plugin? Also, how do I direct monitor for zero latency? I have Studio One 7 along with the SSL12
@woodyardmusic
@woodyardmusic Ай бұрын
It sounds like you’re hearing both the SSL monitoring AND the studio one monitoring at the same time. So you have to pick: either choose to monitor through studio one, mute everything in SSL12, and if you have control over some sort of I/O buffer size in studio one, set that as low as you can, that will help with latency. OR Monitor through SSL12, it will be lightning fast but you won’t hear your distortion plugin.
