Thank you for this video. Could you elaborate on your comment, "Don't do static stretching?"
@PaulHBShin
@PaulHBShin 19 күн бұрын
There's a robust body of research indicating that static stretching BEFORE an explosive activity doesn't improve performance, and in fact appears to hinder performance. And no compelling evidence that static stretching reduces the risk of injury. Cited some studies in the video.

Half tabi tends slip off and not offer enough dynamic grip. I don't think I've ever seen a high-level competitor wear a half tabi.

I definitely feel better and get less injuries stretching before squash. I think it's because I have to reach very far in squash. I also need to warm up. I always get injured if I don't stretch though. For water polo I think warming up is super super important. For kendo I feel I want to warm up but my dojo only does static stretches 😁 Sometimes one guy does some hayasuburi by himself. I don't know, I'm still very very new to kendo.

Hi Mr. Shin. Thanks for your videos, I have learned a lot from them to reinforce what I learn in classes. Question for you or anyone that can answer - I’ve noticed that over time (and sometimes even with a new shinai), the bamboo slats begin to separate from each other, leaving some mm of space between. Sometimes it is across the length of the shinai. Other times, it happens more in a particular place, especially the widest part. (I’ve heard this called either “do” or “harishufa”?) Is this a problem for safety, performance, or longevity of the shinai? If it is, is there a way to fix it? Even if it isn’t a problem I’d still like to be able to fix it. In my opinion it looks slovenly, aesthetically speaking. Thanks!

I'm certain the answer will be something along the. lines of "that's what you get for buying cheap equipment". A more helpful answer would be appreciated. While my katana (not cheap) is in fine condition, my to is a rattle trap, and.appears to have no megugi. There is a hole where one would expect the megugi to be, and there is what appears to be a second megugi, but only on one side and not one opposite. Anyone ever have this issue?

@@PaulHBShin I’m honestly unsure. I think it would be the other, one-sided mekugi as I don’t see anything else that would be. I will do a quick video and post on my KZbin page, showing you what I’m seeing and maybe you can offer some guidance.

I accidentally left my bogu armor outside in a duffle bag outside for the night amd it ended up raining. The bag was slightly under roof and it ended up slightly wet. Barely. Im more worried about men and kote than anything else. It wasnt SOAKED but slightly wet. Bogu was bought sometime around May of this year (2023) How much damage am i looking at?
@PaulHBShin
@PaulHBShin 11 ай бұрын
First order of business is to get everything thoroughly dried out. Then you can assess damage. Main location to keep an eye on is the leather band around the mengane. Also, in case you're not already doing this -- when you return home from practice, you should be taking the bogu out of the bag and letting it air out to dry.

@PaulHBShin It was raining heavily last night and today. Unfortunately I had to leave it drying indoors. The damage wasn't too bad. As soon as weather clears up I'll have it drying outdoors. Thank you for your advice. I will do just that when I get home from work. Again, thank you very much!

Never throw away a shinai. With a cane tip and bicycle slip-on handlebar grip, they make excellent walking sticks (canes). That is mines only purpose (and self defense if needed. ii practice). Use fishing-rod handle gripping heat-shrink instead of thread & leather.
