DF95 Dragonfoiler in Australia

Great afternoon with the Dragonfoiler, with the kit supplied by Paul Goddard out of New Zealand. Wind was steadily increasing throughout the afternoon and had to go down to the smaller rig. In these conditions it is best not to use the centreboard.

This one has smaller diameter cross beams compared to the trimaran with the white main hull, so the platform of the 3 hulls flexes more. This lets the windward float dip in the bows, which changes the angle of attack of the windward foil to negative live - ie it is trying to hold down the windward float, resulting in a flatter sailing attitude. Might look a bit odd but is extremely effective as an automatic levelling system for the boat, better that more electronics linked to a gyro (cheaper, lighter, less likely to get wet and stop working) as some people have told me I should use.
