I love their album Four and their most recent one. I appreciate when a band isn't afraid of changing their sound.

The only problem with that album is that it's derived from several sessions. The songs are all good, some don't match up.because the audio changes so abruptly. I love every song on the first Heavy Friends album. "Flashing Lights" is a masterpiece of modern psychedelia. Noel Redding is great on it as well as Page, Bonzo and Beck. I think Sutchy did a good job ,vocally. I play that album still. It delivers everything you need. No frills but lots of thrills!

Lost all credibility with the Yoshimi bit. Way too low ranked and the Yoshimi part 2 hate is absolutely ridiculous

Mid to late 70's I was listening to Iggy Pops 1st 2 solo works, The Heart Breakers, Television, Destroy All Monsters, The Damned, Wire, The Jam, Magazine, Buzzcocks on to Joy Division, The Sillies (local Detroit band). All were bands only a couple friends knew and listened also. And almost all impossible to find in Detroit, lucky me had a cousin living in UK from 73-82. Thank you Ritchie. And Lets not Forget Motorhead on strength of Lemmy from Hawkwind, 1 of my early 70's bands saw and bought. I believe he performed in Detroit right before Windsor arrest then subsequent firing. At old & gone Ford Auditorium, WABX Tickets got us in.

6:36 okay, not done. silvery sometimes video is soooooo fun. Sugar Ray dude is in the stage art for the 2018 tour and perform in the 30th anniversary show. BC and Mark McGrath never really met in the 90’s… a weird friendship/acquaintanceship.

0:29 I was about to rage stroke out and tell you to STFU. But then okay… j/k. 🙃 There isn’t a bad Pumpkins album. Hot take- Zeitgeist > Pisces. How isn’t it other than the mastering? WPC, the voice of my heart forever and always. 3:42 nooooooo, Spellbinding is a banger. Yes, it does make me want to tease my hair a bit and break out my arm warmers but Neymar I like teasing my hair and breaking out my arm warmers. That’s it for now, I guess. Hooray!

even though downward album wasnt as solid as you'd prefer an astronaut.. i think Apollo is a crazy amazing song... first time i heard apollo it was the same emotional reaction as when you hear jeff buckleys song "grace" for the first time. instant tears streaming down my cheeks.. gotta love music like that too!!

in my opinion its one of Mobys best albums, and i love to hear it since 20 years at least one or two times in a month. The hate it gets isn't fair, and in my opinion it is mostly based on people who are not very flexible in loving all kinds of music and needs they're boarders between the genres... im glad thats not my cup of thea..

The chorus in Song for Clay (Dissapear Here) is in 7/4, so I'm guessing that's how it's "math rock".

Great review! I almost completely agree with your analysis on best to worst, with of course Soft Bulletin being number one. There are so many moods and textures to that album that sets it apart. I was fortunate to meet Wayne and Steven around 2004 when I was living in Nashville while they were touring for Yoshimi. They both were very friendly and kind.

It's my second time watching and THIS time I've decided to comment as I couldn't (emotionally) the prior time.. To say you did an excellent if not interesting job would be an understatement.. This is one of his sisters.. There was six of us in all.. He was almost a stranger to me growing up.. Then he moved to England.. He had great nature about him and believe it or not he was during the abortion referendum a staunch prolifer like myself I might add.. Anyway..... Once again.. Thank you for your simple and most interesting analysis on what must have been a "WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN"....exercise.. You've done a wonderful job.. I could imagine what he'd do to "nip and tuck" at it a little but we'll never know.........

So glad Yoshimi wasn't at the top. So glad Clouds and Transmissions were. I would put Priest and HIt to Death higher. And I'm not sure Soft Bulletin would be my number one, but yes, it was expected that either Yoshimi or SB would be at the top. I was there from pretty much the beginning, entering with Priest when that one came out, then working through the back catalogue and following forward thorugh the 90s, their best era, IMO. I could put any one of their 90s albums over SB. Priest, Transmissions, Clouds, Hit to Death, any one of those could be my number one. SB is 5 at best, for me. And of course that's personal, because by then I was moving on to other things, and Wayne was using sock puppets live, and that lost me. But the Lips will always be one of my favorite bands. And it's simply amazing to me in 2025 that they are still around. Never would have thought that was possible in 1995.

I absolutely love Wire, and have for 44 years. I can’t even begin to describe how much of an impact this incredible band has made on me through the years. One thing I’ve never understood though is this notion that the first three albums need to be ranked, or ‘rated’ as the kids love to say. For me they’ve always been a package deal. A ‘holy trinity’ as it were. Each album showcasing a quantum leap in evolution, and in such a stunningly short amount of time. No other band (to my knowledge) has ever accomplished what Wire have, creatively speaking, in that amount of time. It still blows me away… and all three of those albums are still equally enjoyable, relevant, and impressive to me. I’m sure they always will be.
