Your methods are spot on and very common sense in detail, I have seen even some professional boxers get into the ring and do that jab and cross from the hip as a brief warm up exerciseI I guess however you are one hundred percent correct in the way you teach the jab and where your fists should be, i have been following you and like the way you teach and love your candor too!

Great tip on the right hand for me. I was so focused on technique that I totally forgot the purpose behind it. I mean hitting and landing it. 😅 I guess after I am landing it I then start working on the details 😂 not the other way round lol

A neutral cross doesn't have any bend?
@JonathanBarahona-bd9ri2 ай бұрын
I see, there is bend standing too just not as much.
@Bmoreboxing_by_coachd2 ай бұрын
Well it depends on the coach. I say it depends on the situation. You don’t always have time to bend and punch, sometimes you just gotta shoot it out and let your hips and or arm punching with the shoulder. Yes bend does generate power but people forget speed makes power as well.

See for most people who don’t understand or never seen something before they just right it off and say it’s wrong. This is what I was taught by great old timers and also you can study and see these things used. Also remember everything ain’t for everybody. I just offer options and tools to had to your arsenal. I will never say my way is the only way I been coaching to long to ever say that.

Don’t forget the foot movement you slip to that right like that and don’t turn yourself it’s a set up for a trip or knock down if you do get hit being at a bad angle like that
@Bmoreboxing_by_coachd3 ай бұрын
That’s not a bad angle, it’s just a quick lean forward. It’s simple. No footwork needed. Watch Willie pep or Nicolino lucche, James Toney. Quwi Mohammed, Micheal Dokes, Joe Frazier. The footwork you talking about might actually get someone hit harder then they want

@@Bmoreboxing_by_coachd It’s irresponsible. You know that you don’t know what you’re doing. These young impressionable kids will listen and end up hurt. It’s fine if you hurt yourself, but teaching kids to headbutt uppercuts and posing as an instructor when you don’t know boxing is not okay.

It’s no footwork needed, sure you can roll if an hook come ornament hop step but you don’t need a certain footwork technique. It’s whatever you wanna do after that if it makes sense. But ima do one with a couple scenarios. But what Joe Frazier and Willie prep they didn’t countless things of this

Hey Coach D great video as always! I find this is most ppls biggest misunderstanding about a right cross. I even see pro mma fighters do it all the time. Not saying im better than them lol but still it gets on my nerves when i see it. Solid advice. Btw do u have any tips for keeping my chin tucked besides the tennis ball under the chin trick? I never noticed till recently but i tend to slightly expose my chin sometimes when throwing my straight punches from a distance. I dont compete n almost never do hard sparring so it hasnt been a big issue for me yet but in a real situation against someone who is well trained ik i would get clipped

they actually teach us to keep our eyes moving while driving. it makes sense for boxing as well. if you look at slick fighters like mayweather shakur tank they all have their eyes buck wide open watching every little movement of their opponent. they dont stare at one thing in particular
@Bmoreboxing_by_coachd3 ай бұрын
Well then I guess all driving schools teach different. But I know for a fact that elite fighters don’t look everywhere. Eyes be big cuz of focus. Looking everywhere is just foolish in boxing. Been boxing and coaching way too long to let you get away with this statement. They focus on the Chest so you can see the whole body. I can tell you never boxed and if you did you didn’t get very far respectfully. Even Mike in his prime, Marvin Haglar, sugar Ray Leonard, have said they watch the chest. Have you ever read Jack Dempsey book? Probably not,One of the first things he talk defensively is watching the chest. Jack Johnson said when he learned to boxed in jail from a white man, his defense improved significantly after being taught to watch the chest and shoulders. Something he never thought about before that incarceration for a week. Last but not least, I teach it cuz it works always have work no matter the generation.
