There are, from what I understand, some good scientific studies showing that getting into nature regularlty is beneficial for your physical and mental health. I recall some study that actually showed a significantdifference in people who simply had a view with some trees in it vs. just concrete and glass, pavement, etc. It's not shocking, I mean we evolved to be natural creatures in the planet. Look at hunter gatherers today. Not THAT long ago, that was ALL of us. They spend ALL their time in nature and their (and our) bodies are adapted to that kind of environment. We of course get conditioned to feel much more comfortable, at least many do, in enclosed spaces that are temperature controlled, and don't don't require a lot of movement. And of course, the more comfortable that is, the more it ends up hurting us in the end with chronic diseases, mental health issues, etc. Obviously it's not the only reason, but it's one of them. If you're interested a great read on this subject, that is not too heavy on the woo is Radical Wholeness by Philip Shepherd. I'm all in favor of people getting out in nature, as I mention, and I think that should be the first priority. However, there are certain locations that make that very challenging, either due to the lack of good nearby green spaces, the safety of those green spaces, etc. For those people who have these challenges and unfortunately can't move, the next best thing may be a "product." I think it's anyone's guess whether these things do what they claim to, but without more evidence, I would lean against it. One study and a bunch of anecdotes ton't prove anything. But, if people have no other option, it may be worth a few bucks to try something. It may be just a placebo effect, but placebo effects can be powerful sometimes, so if it can reduce suffering in any way, why not? The problem of course, is you're taking a big risk and people are out to take advantage of trends and false hopes, so just don't EXPECT it to work. Give it a shot and if it doesn't and you can return it, send it back, and hay, no worries, right?

Pls keep making videos. This one was genuinely inspirational. I started playing guitar a little over half a year ago. All tough I was thinking I might be too old to learn guitar, you sometimes just have to do what you are passionate about…

You have a lovely voice - thank you for sharing this with us. I think sometimes the only point of a thing is that it gives you some joy. Not everything has to be about achieving or succeeding in the eyes of others. Whatever - whenever - your next video comes, you know I'll watch it and enjoy it too.

Thank you so much! I think with the internet, we all feel like our art, hobbies need to be put online for everyone to see and to judge us. I really like recontextualizing this for being mostly for fun.

@@ChristianClaus13 For sure! As an author I *know* my writing is for anyone to see and review if they want, but I also have to focus on it being for ME when I'm doing the actual writing work! Otherwise it's so easy to get in my head and overthink and end up not doing anything...

I’m a guitarist, and as practical advice if you want to play guitar to a level you like, the key is playing everyday, even if for 5 minutes. Calluses are a very important thing, and if you’d like to have it a little easier, tune to a half step down and put a capo on 1.

Thanks for the advice! I did get blisters after playing for this video, so I can imagine that the calluses help! Maybe I should also change the strings...

I dont know how this will resonate Christian, but i never took ur videos as advice I took them as sharing and pondering the best ways to tackle and get better at being yourself and, you take a leap ( a correct one) and think this might be relatable to others. I watch every one of your videos, start from finish and even if you stop now ive enjoyed your content. Not because i think you have it all sorted out, or know something i dont (ie the teacher) But because its relatable and I appreciate your honesty, ur research and your perseverance :) I often ask myself why i make my music too......... but in the end i cant help it :) Hope to keep being lucky enough to see amazing thoughtfull videos!

Thank you so much. I am always really happy to see your comments, and this one in particular is so nice. I don't think I'll ever stop making videos. Depending on how life goes, I might end up making fewer, but never stop. This is such a fun thing to do, and I don't want to ever give it up. I also hope I can keep listening to your music -- and hopefully one day, even live!

Loved this one, and the way you tied it into your knees/made that comparison to depression being like any other illness. I feel like there are definitely some genetic predispositions in our family and I've always told the kids that (all three are teens now and on medication for managing depression and anxiety). You just do the things you need to do to stay well and live the best life you can.

Thank you! It does become clear once people start reflecting on themselves and seeing patterns in their family. And knowing this can only help the next generation deal with it. I'm glad you seem to be supporting your children with their journey!

You are so so wrong my friend For older people like me in my 6th decade,the products I have purchased on the UK have literally been life changing. I had bad insomnia up to 10 months ago,I purchased a cotton silver thread bed sheet from Amazon..THAT WAS A SCAM. I then purchased a carbon infused bedsheet which plugs DIRECTLY into the grounding rod in the garden,this is still from day 1 now giving me 7-9 hours sleep,changed my life of insomnia hell of 2-3 hours sleep. I also use grounding patches for pain relief,earlier this year I had carpol tunnel and numbness in arm/hand. The patches have 99% alleviated this problem. I am allergic to grass so I can not put bare feet on the grass,though I can on Sand/Gravel and be Grounded. And for your info there is over 60 studies on grounding and Earthing not 1. Kind regards. And THANK YOU CLINT OBER for Grounding and Earthing.

The problem with natural healing is its a very holistic approach you need for it to even work. For example I think there is corilation between alkaline levels and the state your body sits in but for an alkaline diet to work fully you need to eat alkaline long enough that cells in your body are being replaced by alkaline foods it take a whole life commitment. Its not something you can eat good one meal and bad the next. Grounding I suspect alkalizes the body using natural current to pull it out of an acid state back to its sitting norm. Again though this would never work if you are eating acid reaction causing foods that inflame you right after you use grounding to anti inflame. tldr: I suspect grounding do work but only if you combine it with alkaline eating or it will be very minimal.
@sentheaS

Science is not about feeling or suspecting or thinking, it's about empirically testing. There is no evidence to support your viewpoint & strong evidence to prove it untrue. The 'sitting norm' of your body is not alkaline.

oh my goodness! there are products? that's amazing, hilarious, and also depressing. I'm so lucky that I live somewhere safe and close to nature. I get to inhale the sea breeze daily and hear the crashing waves when I step outside. I spend time in nature because it's good for my mental health and the term 'grounding' only meant connecting with nature to me before I saw this video, so I learned something new today! lol new and ridiculous. Nothing can replicate being in nature, and.... it's free to take your shoes off and step on grass for the most part (again, super privileged to live in a place where it's safe to be barefoot. I am frequently shoeless. My Canadian friend came to visit and has decided I'm an actual hobbit lol).

I feel the same way! It's a shame that we live in a world where direct access to clean, undisturbed nature is not a given anymore. There's so much we can gain from being in nature, and grounding is just one of them.

Hey Christian, awesome you had such a good expereince and sounds like you really got heard in a really good way judging by the type of medicine it sounds like your on and the results its having for you. I loved your nuanced take on it. Its barmy how many of the things you share and have gone through i can relate to, Will keep being happy every time you post some of your reflections! Ive been on a bit of a downer since the superset ended actually. Not huge as luckily i dont have huge depressions anymore, but still, that feeling of projects ending can really trigger thigns i feel.
@ChristianClaus13
@ChristianClaus13 3 ай бұрын
Thank you! I'm also really happy that the medication seems to be helping at least a little -- even if it is just a placebo effect, I don't get really super bad anymore. However I'm using the opportunity of not being down in the dumps to actually do things that I know help with my mental health, so maybe that's helping too... it's hard to know. I'm glad that you relate so much to what I'm going through, but obviously it'd be nicer if you didn't have to go through the same things I do. I hope you can get out of the downer and back to doing things you love. Projects ending really do have that effect, the only thing that helps is the next one!
