Great content. Can we dig into why accidental discharges are happening? From this video it seems that the manual safety does NOT prevent the seer from moving as in other models....this would suggest that even with the manual safety....the firearm will be able to discharge if the seer mechanics are truly faulty.

I came across your video and pulled the slide off to see if mine was in fact upgraded and when I put it back together I noticed there was no slide lift anymore. What could have caused that? Two things i noticed... 1) When you were trying to force the striker off the sear ledge, you pulled the slide downward to squeeze against the FCU. But what if you pulled the slide away from the FCU and tried pulling the striker over the sear ledge while doing that? 2) You didn't test (it's hard to do, i realize) but what if some of these ND are relating to the striker sitting only on the secondary sear and not the primary sear. Perhaps the owner didn't fully cock the slide, or their last shot didn't fully pull the slide back, but had enough to eject the casing and the striker is unknowingly sitting on the secondary sear. How easy would it be to knock it off that secondary sear face. Sure at first glance it seems harder than the primary sear face. But we don't know without testing. Just some theories. @sig mechanics
@SIGMECHANICS
@SIGMECHANICS 5 күн бұрын
Hey! Thanks for watching!! I actually have tested your first point, it didn’t make a difference as there is too much distance for it to move to disconnect from each other. It does move but only a fraction of a tiny distance. I will definitely test point 2 to see if I can ignite a primer but I do know that to make it come off you still need a full trigger pull to do that so partial pulls wouldn’t affect it. Thanks for your insight!!

19:55 , 22:20 Do you agree with Protraband that this bar failing, or the ledge interaction failing due to QC, could be the cause of some LE and competition shooters' accidental discharges?
@SIGMECHANICS
@SIGMECHANICS 9 күн бұрын
I disagree in the sense that what he pointed out wasn’t substantiated by anything other than court docs of which are intended to be used against Sig Sauer in a case, but he didn’t provide any proof of the claim (anything that can be tested and proved by a third party). He also seemed to not understand the purpose of the second sear ledge which makes me think he’s research is only based on the arguments being made in court docs. That being said, I’ve tested this by manufacturing a 1:1 striker and sear, (with sharp cut edges) and ultimately the slightly rounded edges of the striker is critical for it to roll off the edges off the sear, sharp edges makes it hard for the parts to dislodge (once they are both sitting at the absolute edge of each other just before the break). I feel like this means that the rounded edge is part of the design of the striker. I might make a video to show this as evidence of that.

@SIGMECHANICS were you ever able to get the second sear ledge to catch the striker through really strong hits or vibration? I know you've done a half-recock, but just curious. I figure if the second latch inconsistently catches the striker as a drop safety or wear and tear safety, that could be where people should point to for explaining accudebtal discharge.

Protraband posted this video with evidence showing manufacturing defects of the sear, and the potential for it to walk off and accidentally discharge. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4Osp3upj79sntE based on your breakdown though I would think the FCU safety would still prevent it from firing without the trigger being pulled. I would think that the manual safety switch would also prevent the trigger from being pulled. it's unfortunate to hear all these cases from people accidentally shooting themselves, but the evidence isnt clear if these cases involved versions of p320's without a manual safety engaged.
@SIGMECHANICS
@SIGMECHANICS 10 күн бұрын
I watched it (because of the title), but unfortunately the video didn’t ultimately provide any proof of anything that I could use to test or reproduce a method of testing it is mainly conjecture based on images from court documents, but it was still not proof that the claims were real and some information was wrong or misunderstood (ie: the second sear ledge isn’t going to stop the striker on a trigger pull, only in a situation where the sear drops and the sear springs kept continuous upward tension). In any case you are correct the FCU as far as we know can only fire on a trigger pull, and having a MS compounds the safety in a big way which you can see more details about here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5-9mGeYYrZ_iKMsi=F6X05TN8YjuzFNtS I hope this helps!

I watched it because of the title however… Although it was compelling as a story, most of that video was images of documents that don’t provide anything that says (for example), a sear ledge at X.XX” depth + a striker hook with XYX” radius edge will cause a discharge. Nothing was provided that you can take back and create a honest method of replicating it under a controlled environment. Also there are also some issues with some of the data provided in that video (like how the second sear ledge is supposed to work), which although I understand how they got to that conclusion is not exactly how it’s intended to operate. I only say that to say that I’d refrain from using that video as the “final say” on what’s being claimed being true. Real testing needs to happen first. To answer your question, I don’t think there is anything wrong with the design. I actively research things by testing theories as they come up and I have yet to ever actually “prove” the claim, although I always remain open to changing opinion with evidence. I’m still very confident with the P320 and still enjoy using it.

I am thinking if someone made a milled striker safety lever. With nice crisp edges instead of a stamped one. That might ease the minds of some p320 owners and could probably make some coin. 🪙 The pictures from the sear on the p320 that went off in the purse incident was a little eye opening. 🧐 Edit: and maybe a stronger safety lever spring as well. Would likely change trigger feel but I wonder by how much.
@SIGMECHANICS
@SIGMECHANICS 10 күн бұрын
@suddendilemma5137 There’s a trade off here. I have actually made a 1:1 CNC’d striker with perfect angles but due to the sharp edge the sear and striker have a hard time releasing from one another. To operate effectively it needs a very slight radius by design to work. People shouldn’t take that video to heart, there’s a bit of bad info there and there’s no actual evidence of proving the claim in the content.

@@SIGMECHANICS that’s so funny. Figured if anyone out there was playing with it, it would be you. 👍🏼 also I could imagine those two faces hanging up but also little surprising, as I wouldn’t have thought there wouldnt be enough pressure to bing them. The design seems reasonable and your videos are second to none as to how that safety works. Short of the striker safety spring breaking or leg missing it makes no sense how these pistols are going off. I wish there was more detail also as to if they were factory triggers or not, the condition of the firearm, just more info in general.

@toothlessmegalbio to do that you’d break the grip (the FCU sits within notches), there is no need to force anything on the 365, it can be done gently for the most part if you pay attention to the mechanics involved. Your situation sounds to me like either your guide rod was inserted wrong or you need to move the sear out of the way to just release the two parts from one another. As a right-handed shooter, I hate the "slop" in the left side safety lever compared to the right side. If you've never used the right-side lever, try it and I promise you'll notice a difference - the right side is perfectly crisp but the left is...not. Upon inspection, I don't see a remedy aside from high-precision drilling and threading of some kind of tensioning screw or set screw - but that screw would need to be accessible AFTER the FCU is fully assembled, which would make the job even harder.
