Prince made a fool of himself that night. It was George's tribute and it was a show of respect. Prince made it all about him.

Does anyone have a copy of "Eloise" by "The Damned" that has, before the vocals start, the eerie laugh, that makes this song all the more startling. Loved Barry Ryans original version, not long after hisctwin brother died in the 70's, but the mocking, scarey laugh, just lifts the recording onwards & upwards for me. Reason I ask this question? I would like to use this particular version of Eloise to play when my coffin is passing through the curtains as it heads to wherever it goes next. Just to shake them all up, have a laugh, and remind them that we will all laugh when we meet again, whether it be heaven or hell or sent to repeat the same life over & over until we learn the difference between right and wrong. Almost 70 now and still confused! God Bless

correct. first record on Tony Blackburn, but 247m Mw had an earlier programme shared with Radio 2 and thus not quite the first on Radio 1

Oddly what was alluded to actually has been admitted has happening recently. (not sure if pre or post the postcard publication) therefore the judgement should be set aside)

I liked their music after Jeff joined the band: 'Tonight,' 'California Man,' 'Words of Aaron.' I'm a Brummie, just like my heroes. One of the biggest shocks of my life, when I was a teenager, was discovering that ELO, the band I idolised, and who could have come from anywhere on the planet, actually came from Birmingham. I walked past Bev in the street, in 1984. One of my biggest regrets is that I didn't say to him: "Excuse me. Weren't you the drummer with... Troy Satan and the Hellcats?" 🤣🤣🤣 Just to see the look on his face when this young kid of 17 mentioned a band Bev was in before he joined The Move.

I can understand why the band was, and still is, furious at what their manager did without asking them.

Putting paid to the horseshit that every PR firm quotes as "There's no such thing as bad publicity". Ask Puff Daddy if there's such a thing as bad press. Criminal how unheralded The Move are in the U.S. Been trying to find one of those "Harold Wilson-Flowers in the Rain" postcards for decades. Harder than you would think.

Here's yer best trvia question. Know this and you'll always be asked to join quiz teams. What was the first music played on Radio 1? It was Theme 1 by The George Martin Orchestra just before Flowers in the Rain.

Correct but before Flowers in the Rain ,Johnny Dankworth's Beefeaters ( Tony Blackburns signature tune) was played .

I just saw Jeff Lynne’s ELO in Cincinnati. Great, great show. Band was tight and extremely talented and what can you say about Jeff Lynne. Jeff had his guitar player Mike Steven’s introduce the band. He saved Jeff for last. The crowd in Cincinnati gave Jeff a roaring standing ovation for what seemed like forever. Great show, great night, GREAT BAND! Strange Magic!
