80% of the first ELO lineup here, just violinist Steve Woolam missing from the lineup who recorded ELO's self titled debut album which was first released in November 1971. In June 1972, Roy Wood and Bill Hunt had departed from ELO to form Wizzard while Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan regrouped ELO with new members.

If you check out some different sites with this same recording, you'll notice a misque on the keys. Jeff was still playing the guitar when we started hearing the piano. He realized it and hit the keys quickly, but he still felt it when he looked at Roy like OOPS. Also check out Roy's "shoes".

It does, which is weird for the OGWT was all about actual, real, live performances.
@philipbrackpool-bk1bm3 ай бұрын
The OGWT did that more than people thought.
@davidcooper113 ай бұрын
Yeah, OGWT had bands do a live studio take which the artists then mimed too during video recording to give the impression of a live take.

This shows the unreliability of memories because I was sure that the OGWT never allowed miming. Oh well. Still, nice to see the band.
@beds1392 ай бұрын
Despite trying to imply totally live performances the OGWT frequently featured live vocals over backing tracks.
@psm2411082 ай бұрын
A bassist from my old band played rhythm guitar with Bill Nelson and Be Bop Deluxe on an Old Grey WT session and they definitely sung live over a pre recorded backing track, probably Jools Holland does the same today, sorry but bands were not live on OGWT.

Unusual to see Woody playing bass without a pick. Anyone know what that bass was? Looks like a modified Fender, but what were those pickups, and why that positioning? Assuming its the bass on the record, it seems to have been wired in stereo.
@Tim0913 ай бұрын
It seems that he had the pickups slanted, one picking up the top two strings the the bottom two. Yes, each output separate to mix the strings left and right! A very novel (unique?) approach I think.

I think this is the same Bass that Rick Price plays on ‘I wish it could be Xmas everyday’ by Wizzard it certainly looks very similar on the Video maybe Roy loaned it to Rick?

Also wondering do you have the complete BBC Colour me Pop performance with the actual live tracks audio on HD video or Bilzen Jazz 1969? Thanks!
@tony713elo3 ай бұрын
@towhee89 I have the full Colour Me Pop. I'll try and upload some of it when I get a chance. Blizen Jazz was 68, I think, and as far as I know, one song (or maybe two) was released as bonus track on a dvd of the 1969 event. I do have the dvd somewhere; I'll need to check. Edit: I've just checked, and it was a bootleg DVD, taken from a VHS source, so quality is not great.
@towhee893 ай бұрын
@@tony713elo OK. I wasn't sure if FITR was the only song on the Bilzen video. Thanks! The Colour me Pop is confusing because half the uploads have the studio track dubbed. Keep up the great work!
