Is this stock ??? What exhaust and what intake are you running?? What motor size ?? 3.4 ??
@qikqbn77 Жыл бұрын
Mostly stock at the time. I think I only had the 57-7000 K&N cold air intake system on at the time. Motor size was 3.8 liter making about 365 hp with intake.

@@darrend2035 The 997.1 vs 997.2 do sound a bit different, but a nice cold air intake kit will make a nice difference in sound. Especially 5000-7000 rpm. I now use the Evoms V-Flow intake kit. I like the design a bit better than the K&N, but they both sound identical. Real screamers in the upper rpm.

How do you do data recording?
@qikqbn772 жыл бұрын
For these track days back in 2016 I was using "Harry's Lap Timer" App. It basically creates the overlay of information over your android/iphone recorded video. So I mount the phone to my windshield and record the lap through the Harry's App. Or, it also allows you to download just the overlay and composite it onto any other video like a gopro video. It's was a good app back in the day. I am sure there are much better ones now to chose from as well.

Hey! Great video! I own a 2003 986 3.2l Boxster S, I am thinking on swamping it with a 3.6l 996 Turbo engine, do you think it would be any harder to do the swap than yours?
@qikqbn774 жыл бұрын
Wow, that would be an amazing project. I worry about the space restrictions on the mid engine to accommodate a Turbo engine. To fit the 3.4 liter we created some spacers for the front motor mount that allowed it to drop about 1 inch because the intake manifolds on these engines are taller. . Remember that the intake plumbing and fuel rails have to be flipped for any engine conversion from 911 to boxster. So you need to consider the space for the Turbo intake piping and how to route it to the intercoolers. Where will the intercoolers mount on the Boxster??? These are all problems that would need to be carefully planned out and solved. Best of luck though. That would be an awesome car if it worked!!

0-60 in 6 seconds according to the timer
@qikqbn774 жыл бұрын
Speedo timer in gauge cluster 3:08-3:10 is 5mph, Clutch was let out slowly at 5mph in order not to abuse clutch/transmission, so a little time may be gained if hard/abusive launch used.. Still, from what I see, about 1/2 sec after the speedo timer passes 3:10 the clutch is engaged. As timer hits 3:15 63-68 mph passes.. After 6 seconds or 3:16 speedo timer mark car is going 75 mph and 100 mph by 3:20 which = 5-100 mph in 3:10-3:20 = 10 seconds total with an easy launch. Another angle is follow the analog speedo far left. Starts to move in video 09 seconds. Hits 60 mph at 13 seconds = 4 second range. approximately.

How is your oil consumption? I have a 2009 C2S which eats a 1qt / 900 miles. I drive it spirited on the weekends like you do in this video.
@qikqbn774 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, I purchased my 2006 911 C4S 10 years ago with only 6,000 miles on it. Today I am closer to 86,000 miles. I have always burned about 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles. Sometimes if I do a lot of canyon running or a track day I may burn 1.5 quart in 1000 miles. A 2007 Official Porsche Bulletin said that is was "Normal" for Porsche to burn up to 1.5 Liter per 1000 Kilometers or = to 1.6 quarts per 622 miles. This goes for most of their vehicles including Cayenne's and Macan's. I have never burned quite that much in 622 miles, but I do notice a higher burn rate after aggressive driving that involves lots of corners versus just cruising on the freeway. I would not worry about your burn rate. Looks normal to me, although lots of 997.2 guys say they do not burn oil at all. Some engines just have looser tolerances in the pistons/rings for whatever reason. My 2008 Cayman S burns no oil between oil changes every 5k miles. If you start burning 1 quart every 300 miles... well, then something is not happy. Hope that helps. Check out Rennlist Forum for all kinds of topics and answers. google search any Porsche concern followed by the word "rennlist" and you will get some good insight from other Porsche owners. Enjoy in good health and keep driving your 911 like it was meant to be driven!
@kevingriffith38014 жыл бұрын
@@qikqbn77 Thanks for the information. Reading the boards shows consumption varies widely. I purchased mine at 41.5k miles. Been a fine car to drive once it is well warmed (oil temp around 200deg F). At that point the thing is an animal. What are some of the things to look out for? Since I've owned it I've noticed some low RPM (under load) pinging. It has PDK too, so I tend to drive it in manual mode to stop the pinging. But also wondered if the issue could be from CA gas formulation. None of my other P cars do this. Perhaps an issue with the HPFP? I've read that these go out.
@qikqbn774 жыл бұрын
@@kevingriffith3801 sorry for late reply. I would highly recommend you send in your oil to Blackstone labs for oil analysis. Keep an eye out for any abnormal levels of aluminum, silicon, and other metals. The oil analysis will give you a good idea on the health of your engine and if all the metals are within normal levels. Any spikes will indicate bore scoring or chain guide wear. Plus it will also tell you if you have any extra fuel or coolant leaking in to your oil. High pressure fuel pumps or injectors can be and issue for 997.2. Porsche has been know to take care of some of those under their good will policy, but our cars are getting up there in age. The pinging I have never noticed in my 997.1, but crappy fuel can play havoc. In CA I only use Chevron 91 and also do a techron fuel additive cleaner once every 6 months. I know the 997.2 have a ticking sound from the high pressure injectors, but the pinging I am not familiar with. Maybe check out rennlist forum and do a search. Hope you are doing well and being safe as we all quarantine. hope this ends soon and back to normal life!!

@qikqbn775 жыл бұрын
Just passed smog check a few days ago with flying colors!! In and out in 20 minutes. It took longer to boot up the Smog check stations old equipment. The hardest part now, in California, is that less and less smog shops want to test Pre-2000 year cars because they require a dyno roller and sniffer test that uses older equipment. They want to make it harder for us to find a station to do tests at ;^( but my car has passed every time with no issues. Just need to run the car real good before stopping for the test. You want the catalytic converters nice and hot during the test. ;^)

@qikqbn777 жыл бұрын
Yes, this still has the original 5 speed transmission of the base boxster 986. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear are still very competitive with the Boxster S 6 speed, but then 4th and 5th gear of the 5 speed tranny are much taller. In 5spd 4th you can hit 135mph vs about 125mph in the 6spd.

I'm glad to hear it holds up well. I've been doing my research into either a 3.4 conversion or an engine build. What made you go with the 3.4 conversion over a built engine?
@qikqbn777 жыл бұрын
depends on what you are starting with. 10 years ago when I did this conversion in 2006-2007 the price made a lot of sense to me. Plus, I love the idea of having a 911 engine inside the Boxster. This is how it should have been from the beginning. With that said. I do not think I would do this conversion today. Price wise it makes a lot more sense to purchase a 987 2007 Boxster S that already has a 3.4 liter engine and also upgraded interior and build quality over the 986. You can find these now in the 20k range. An engine/labor/parts and replacing old parts in a 986 will not be as cost effective these days and still run you about 15k to 20k when all done..
