This is fantastic! I need to finish some blocks so I can set up my machine for quilting and dive into the challenge. I love swirl patterns so much!

I'm so very impressed. You can say swirl scroll that many times without messing it up. I'm having trouble saying it once!

This is going to take some brain power to learn. :) Is there going to be an additional video for the borders or should we just choose our own from the learnings.

Hi. Great new design. For borders, can you chat about turning corners please?

looking ahead definitely helps. When stopping, I move my foot from the foot pedal so I don’t inadvertently start sewing too early!

Angela, you and your selfless giving of all of your knowledge and experience have been absolutely priceless on my quilting journey! You cover what could be scary and intimidating with humor and a complete lack of judgement. Your encouragement to do hard things and just practice, practice, practice as well as echo, echo, echo....ring in my head and make me smile and want to continue. In the spirit of "threes"....THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I love having you as my guide and I feel like we've been friends forever :) Of course, we haven't met, but we do share coffee and/or wine at my computer on the regular!

On the panel where you trace, do the lines wash out when you’re done? Just curious! Thank you!
@joanotto99844 күн бұрын
The lines are permanent. They just stay there, are a guide for you to learn the swirl.

I watch you on Craftsy tv and notice you quilting with a domestic machine. I don’t see any basting on the quilts . At the end when you show the finished quilt it looks so nice. I get puckers and extra fabric bunched up towards the end. Can you give me any tips on keeping things smooth as I quilt? Thanks
@nettieanngill7824 күн бұрын
I believe she uses fuse batting or you can spray baste. I use spray baste on the batting to back and front and then iron to get wrinkles out,that works well.

For our panel, if I want to do denser on one side of those swirls, would you recommned the outside edge or the inside edge? I want to experiment and try that out, but want it to look good when I'm done. So far, I'm amazed at how it's turning out. Thank you so much for creating this challenge and the panel to go with it - that made it so much easier.

Great chat; sorry I missed it live. I watch all your videos over and over for inspiration, instruction, and sometimes just for fun. My FMQ is becoming easier with each quilt, and my confidence gets stronger, too. Angela’s encouragement is a stress buster for me. I’ve taken on the mantra “ish is good enough”.

Question on your long arm, is that set with a speed control? Or do you just move it to do the speed entirely? I know you’ve said there is no regulator. Got the mini frame by Grace company to set that up soon will let me know”drive” like in an along arm but use my own machine (plain Juki). Thinking I might need speed controller so was wondering how your long arm is set up in that.

I'm pretty sure she'll say she just freehands it. If you go too slow your lines aren't as straight, too fast and you can mess up. She always says to look ahead of your needle where you're going. After that practice. By my third quilt, just free motion on a sewing machine, it was looking much better. I've gone through all her old videos, I recommend them.
@deborahemielita59495 күн бұрын
Yeah it was my assumption that she does it all freehand, as in speed set by moving the handles. It’s been a long time since she mentioned it. Yes I watch a lot of her videos because there is always something interesting in them. This one has a lovely loop that looks like a Lilly or a different leafish filler that I want to try doing too. Also it sometimes helps to get me going, a little soothing inspiration;)

I like the long skinny swirls as it’s own design. It reminds me of vines. Depending on the effect you want this could be a happy oops. I like doing vine shapes along the border of my quilts

I can't seem to "get" Week 1's basic swirl! I get it, I don't get it, to quote you, Angela. My ears pricked up when you said 2 things: 1) start with a small swirl because you can always build up the area with echoing and 2) make your lines curvy; don't let them "flatten out". As I look at my practice work so far, I think I start with way too big an initial swirl circle and when I do echo, my stitching is flatter than it should be. Thanks for your tips, your enthusiasm, and your encouragement to "keep on going" and "practice, practice, practice". I wish I knew why my brain can't get hold of this lovely design and alterative design uses. Linda from NoDak

When you are showing the longarm quilting, is that actual speed? Do you really quilt that fast, or is the video sped up?
@aliciapeacock4662Күн бұрын
Angela talks about the quick speed she quilts at. She also stresses that the speed is her preference NOT something you should be aiming for unless it is also your preference

“Keep going” and don’t be overly critical AS you are stitching the swirls. I tend to be too picky as I quilt many designs, but especially swirls. Don’t be defeated!! Keep going, because once the quilt is done and washed-or even farther away than 4” from your eyes (as when it’s under the machine foot)-the final product will be beautiful. Thanks for this great video, Angela.

I have learned (thanks to you!) to make all kinds of swirl designs including swirl meander, swirl hook, etc but the swirl chain has always defeated me. I had an "aha" moment watching this weeks video that may help others. For a swirl meander I always exit the curl on the OUTSIDE of the curl to be positioned to make the next swirl facing the other way. But for swirl chain, you have to exit on the INSIDE of the curl to make that first echo along the side that the curl is facing. Then when you travel around the outside and echo the other side, you are positioned to start the next swirl. Hope this is clear. Love your videos!!!
