The picture of all of those school buses being flooded when people could have been evacuated by the school buses/drivers (and the buses as well as the people being spared Katrina) by taking those people to shelters higher ground is heartbreaking! The situation in New Orleans pre-Katrina was well known! The Louisiana and New Orleans politicians just ignored the citizens and refused to compile a workable evacuation plan!

Those disturbed by this don’t know how true this song is. Interesting fact is while Ray Nagin and the Governor complained that there was no plan to deal with this type of event, there was and they had both signed off on it including how to request aid from the Feds including FEMA. I guess all they did do was sign off, never read the plan- typical politician.

you live in a town below sea level in a part of the country known for hurricanes. You have several days notice. yet you make no plans to evacuate. and then blame everyone else for the consequences of your shit poor choices... lose the victim mentality, get the hell off Uncle Sam's plantation and you AND the rest of the country will be better off.

@@sallyjopatriot It was up to the state and local government to have a *workable* plan and drills. The Louisiana and New Orleans governments kicked the can down the road for years. Ditto with the ACE and the levees (the federal government did not appropriate the money for repairs) All of the above said -- Yes, people should have been aware and made plans to evacuate. (Those flooded school buses would have been useful -- Had neighborhood plans been made). The saddest part, in my opinion is that those vulnerable neighborhoods were rebuilt (Rather than that land being made into a flood plain -- To guard the higher land in the city from flooding/storm surge) The people living in those low-lying places should have been given a settlement and temporarily housed elsewhere for awhile until they could get a new place on higher ground ..
