Lyrics as best as I can hear them: "Well, in 20-05, Katrina let her rip, Took dead aim at the coast of Mississip’. Blew Pascagoula and some other towns to smithereens, And she set her sights on the town of New Orleans. "And the levees caved in, and the water started risin’; And the people started climbin’ up on their roof. Reporters showed up and started televisin’, Started pointin’ fingers and messin’ with the truth. "And they blamed George Bush, and they blamed the head of FEMA. Global warming played a part in it too, don’t ya know? Louie Farrakhan said Bush blew up the levees; Well, I guess he saw it all from his UFO. "They had a whole bunch of school buses ready to go, But they never crank them up because the mayor said, “No”. Said they “weren’t good enough for folks to ride on”, Then he told them all to “walk to the SuperDome”. "Law and order left town, and the gangs took over. And committed every kind of unthinkable sin. They shot up the town, and trashed the SuperDome, And they showed it on Fox and CNN. "And they stole TVs and they stole fine jewelry; Everybody got a new pair of Nike tennis shoes. Stole guns, DVDs, and shopping carts full of beer. They even stole stuff that they couldn’t even use. "Then the mayor started cussin’, started complainin’; Defendin’ his actions on the radio. Said the federal government was at fault and he was blamin’ Everybody but hisself and Governor Blanco. "And he blamed George Bush, and he blamed the head of FEMA. Then a bunch of other politicians all jumped in. The Reverend Jessie Jackson just couldn’t stay away; He had to show up and pontificate again. "And they stole TVs and they stole fine jewelry; Everybody got a new pair of Nike tennis shoes. Stole guns, DVDs, fur coats, cold beer. They even stole stuff that they couldn’t even use. "And they blamed George Bush, and they blamed the head of FEMA. Global warming played a part in it too, don’t ya know? Louie Farrakhan said Bush blew up the levees; Well, I guess he saw it all from his UFO. "Yeah, they blamed George Bush, and they blamed the head of FEMA. Then a bunch of other politicians all jumped in. The Reverend Jessie Jackson just couldn’t stay away; He had to show up and pontificate again. "Whoo!"

I just discovered Ray Stevens more recent recordings on you tube by accident, they're brilliant, spent a fair bit of Christmas day and today, going through some if them, being in the UK, hadn't really heard much about him since the Streak! I bet he's popular with Trump supporters! 😁

Those disturbed by this don’t know how true this song is. Interesting fact is while Ray Nagin and the Governor complained that there was no plan to deal with this type of event, there was and they had both signed off on it including how to request aid from the Feds including FEMA. I guess all they did do was sign off, never read the plan- typical politician.

you live in a town below sea level in a part of the country known for hurricanes. You have several days notice. yet you make no plans to evacuate. and then blame everyone else for the consequences of your shit poor choices... lose the victim mentality, get the hell off Uncle Sam's plantation and you AND the rest of the country will be better off.
@here_we_go_again25713 жыл бұрын
@@sallyjopatriot It was up to the state and local government to have a *workable* plan and drills. The Louisiana and New Orleans governments kicked the can down the road for years. Ditto with the ACE and the levees (the federal government did not appropriate the money for repairs) All of the above said -- Yes, people should have been aware and made plans to evacuate. (Those flooded school buses would have been useful -- Had neighborhood plans been made). The saddest part, in my opinion is that those vulnerable neighborhoods were rebuilt (Rather than that land being made into a flood plain -- To guard the higher land in the city from flooding/storm surge) The people living in those low-lying places should have been given a settlement and temporarily housed elsewhere for awhile until they could get a new place on higher ground ..

The picture of all of those school buses being flooded when people could have been evacuated by the school buses/drivers (and the buses as well as the people being spared Katrina) by taking those people to shelters higher ground is heartbreaking! The situation in New Orleans pre-Katrina was well known! The Louisiana and New Orleans politicians just ignored the citizens and refused to compile a workable evacuation plan!

This is one of the few times he used an established song, instead of writing his own. Did you know the original was written by a school teacher to help teach history? That is why Johnny Horton's songs contain so much historical material.
