I shot up a small ship I made, and the shooting put a rotational spin on the debris. That debris just kept spinning, which was really impressive, as that's what it would do, since no outside force was acting against the motion, it stayed in motion.

I’m pretty sure the ”hard limit” to how big things you can push comes down to numerical rounding. They changed it so you apply a force to everything, and if the mass is large enough F/m will be rounded to zero, hence the object will not move. So it’s probably not a limit they have explicitly specified, rather the limit on how small numbers the computer will use.

the way they described it sounds a lot more like aimpoint controls, rather than virtual joystick which you're describing. Essentially your camera and the ship rotate entirely separately, and the ship will rotate to "catch up" with your camera at whatever speed it's able, while you can point your camera (your "aimpoint") freely the same as you would when looking around on foot

You can push large ships with your engineer, even with inertial dampeners on... about 300m/s should about do it, at least a nudge. Cut off a thruster pack on the red ship, which was still rather powered despite having no power source, and tried at speeds of ~110m/s, ~300m/s, and ~410m/s to show that at a fast enough speed, that brick can move :D Going to love when they start adding more blocks, and also going to love when they finally add survival mode. Hard to say if I am looking more forward to the Survival game mode or the more blocks tbh, but just super hyped as it is a combination of all that was good (did test, and there is some surviving clang MAWAHAHAHHAHA) and they simply built on and added to it creating an extremely impressive foundation.

I think the reason SE1 doesnt allow you to move things that you should be able to is due to performance. (you dont want the game calculating 100grids moving 0.01m/s) I suspect that eventually SE2 will also do this. but who knows.

lmao. Def a tech demo rn, but am hyped af for whats to come. Everything from the animated Gyro, which actually takes a minute to slow down and stop after power loss, and the default increase to the speed cap has me super excited about it. Currently, you cannot even open a storage container, or use any blocks it seems... UI will take some getting used to, but the micro grids, other details, and general improvements are going to make this an exceptionally fun game.

Needs the ability to rebind keys. It's infuriating having "C" be downward thrust instead of "L-Alt." It's easier to use L-Alt when piloting as it's a large button right next to space bar, and uses your thumb so your index finger is still free to hit D instead of having to choose between D or C. Also want scroll wheel to cycle block type instead of the default R, because as is, you can't cycle backwards, but rather have to cycle through every variation to get to the previous variation.

I didn't think of that xD yeah kinda crazy how a lot of people have thought of so many ways to fold and unfold pistons now that I'm reading the comments
@Pystro
@Pystro Күн бұрын
That's a technique that I've seen other youtubers do. And I think everyone who has tried to squeeze maximum performance out of such a piston pack will have come across this one known problem: Pistons next to full blocks can collide or even snag, especially under gravity. For maximum extension in the smallest space you'd want to put forward pistons that extend next to backwards pistons that retract. I've seen *3 solutions* to make a compact pack, and I think I just came up with a *new, 4th solution:* A: Live with the sag. I'd build the pack strictly from the top (attached end) to the bottom (loose end that then sags away from the rest). Downside: The piston pack can't be flipped upside down, and if you build it more than 1 wide it can still snag on the left and right sides of the pistons. B: Use conveyor tubes for the return (they have reduced width like the interior pillars you used, but also allow cargo access.) Downside: Conveyors (or pillars) don't contribute to the amount of extension you can get. C: Unfold the pistons away from each other before extending them (double hinges). Downside: One more subgrid for each hinge you use. (But I think this one actually gives the best extension-distance-to-number-of-subgrid ratio.) And secondly it needs sideways space to fold out. And thirdly the tip may move sideways while folding out. (You can use @stevehealy5810 's setup to avoid that.) D: Connecting the new inset connector blocks from their maximum distance will put some distance between those two grids. And their side ports allow you to get the direction reversal at the same time as the gap (which rotors or the old connectors couldn't). Downside: Each connector connection creates one extra subgrid, but here the subgrids don't add any extension distance. And secondly you have to avoid pressing 'P'. Oh, and with A and D you have the inconvenience that some pistons have to move in the opposite direction of the others to extend the pack. (Which means that you may need a timer block instead of simply being able to use a group to set all pistons to the same extension or retraction speed.) Then again, with C you have the even greater inconvenience that extending the pack is a 2-step process.

I prefer a folding set up. Central hinge, two pistons, two hinges, two pistons, single pipe conveyor to act as a spacer, two more pistons, two more hinges, two more pistons, and a final pivot hinge. Just unfolding the hinges from 90 to 0 increases the length from 7.5m to 42.5m. activating the pistons after unfolding gives it another 80m for 122.5m.
@Pystro
@Pystro Күн бұрын
Ah, you are having the hinges angled (*) when stowed. Which makes the tip travel in a perfectly straight line when you unfold all hinges. (*) Base hinge at +90, first hinge pair at -90 and -90, second hinge pair at +90 and +90, and the hinge under the tool head at -90.
